Chris Katongo Nominated for BBC Player Award

Zambia captain Christopher Katongo has received his second award nomination of the year.

The 2012 Africa Cup winning striker has been shortlist for the 2012 BBC African Footballer of the Year award.

Katongo, who has also make the 2012 CAF Player of the year shortlist, is in contention with four other players for the BBC accolade.

The quartet on the shortlist is Yaya Toure of Manchester City his compatriot and Cote d’Ivoire striker Didier Drogba of Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua plus Senegal Newcastle striker Demba Ba.

Morocco playmaker Younes Belhanda of French champions Montpellier completes the BBC shortlist.

The winner will be announced on December 13 after the final popular vote is tallied.

  1. I think the short-list is not necessarily that tough, Chris can make it. But you have west africans in the list who tend to be more believable talent to the rest of the world than southern africans. Let’s see how this one goes. secondly, if voting is really by public opiion, west africans are the majority immigrant population in the UK and other western countries and will obviously go for their compartriots. Unless the BBC weight the vote counts by region and representation, Chris has no chance.
