  1. The chinese league is barely watched world over if at all. Besides Europe is basically viewed as the centre of world football with the beaming on matches from their every week end to world at large. Consequently its not a surprise that Katongo has been left out of the final list. His exploits at the Africa Cup is all people saw of him to a larger extent. Any ways he did well to make the list. Well done mushilikale. I am sure Kalaba will win the local player accolade. Well done boys. 2013 cup is ours as well.

  2. Katongo was better than all of them at afcon just because he won it with zambia and he is from southern africa this is scrap indeed

  3. Katongo plays in China, does anyone watch his performance? My guess is very few people watch him. Voters are more up to date with how Yaya, Ba and Song are performing

  4. KATONGO should not worry because every on knows he is agreat player. let him just concentrate on improving his time will come. who never saw him in africa cup of nations in january?

  6. How do you select someone who did not even play at the AFCON 2012 to be on top five: Alex Song Cameron failed to qualify to the AFCON and you select him as one of the best African Player of the year.

  9. Aka ,Kalusha won the African footballer of the year in 1988 and not 1986.It was a year of the olympics,a year when Zambia failed to host the african cup of nations. It was also the year Wisdom Summerby Chansa won the Zambian footballer of the year and of cause it is the year Zambia beat Italy 4-0.GOD BLESS ZAMBIA.

  10. useless caf, how do you reject a champion and embrace a loser? foolish caf. one day the southern part of africa will rise against you for we know your foolish tricks.

  11. You people don’t get it, sadly this is about sponsorship and profiling CAF to the World; Katongo may be a big name here but around the world he is nobody and CAF don’t want a nobody on their posters. Katongo’s club performance as well isn’t that great..let’s be realistic.

  12. primitive africa! Why should flaffers that cant perform on the african continent even be on the list later on final list. Drogba & co. What ve they done in the past yr. When is africa going to ve its own identity rather than depending on not so great epl, whose national team best performance is quarter final at any major tournament, to appreciate players that perform at AFCON. Africa wash yourself of this primitivity.

  13. @22 jay jay, u a just as stupid as ISA HAYA, the caf president. That mentality is the reason why the same ***** isa cant be fifa president. If the finalist are as special as u put why didnt they perform at afcon. Chris was by far the more outstanding compared to these flaffers listed. Drogba is long past his best why put him there.

  14. Only Yaya Toure and Drogba can claim a final nomination with Katongo and Mweene  deserve to be on the shortlist. These reached the AFCON final What in hell’s name are Demba and Alex Song doing on that list? Just because they appear on CAF fatcats’ TV sets?
Does Europe sttill determine Africa’s idols like it did after colonising us? This just shows the rot in CAF Out with Hayatou!! have a Southern African for CAF president.

  15. BBC Sport asked five journalists to give their expert opinions on the nominees for the BBC Africa Footballer of the Year award, picking one player each and explaining why they would get their vote. Here’s what they had to say.

    Demba Ba
    Younes Belhanda
    Didier Drogba
    Christopher Katongo
    Yaya Toure
Christopher Katongo still in the race where do you get such information to tell lies you….

  17. Those guys just hate Zambia. You mean they never saw how Katongo inspired his team. CAF awards should be about AFCON, CAF champions not UEFA champions league. Why do consider them for African honours. What did shortilisted player achieve at AFCON 2012.Nothing. Katongo brought glory to mother Zambia

    • this is crazy caf, you all doing rubish.give someone some thg that belongs to him.cus for me that award belongs to samuel eto nobody ease.players need to work hard to suceed.
