I’m still MMD President and Major Kachingwe is expelled -Nevers Mumba

MMD youths dragged Major Kachingwe him from his office at the party secretariat in Rhodespark to the main road where he was forced to get onto a moving car belonging to one of the party officials

MMD leader Dr. Nevers Mumba has maintained that he is the dully elected President of the former ruling party.

Earlier in the day, MMD National Secretary Major Richard Kachingwe had announced the decision to validate Dr. Mumba’s presidency of the party.

Addressing a media briefing at the party secretariat in Rhodespark, Dr. Mumba said he was elected by a constitutionally organised national convention.

He said allegations that he was not a member of the MMD are baseless and unfounded.

Dr. Mumba also announced the expulsion of Major Kachingwe from the MMD with immediate effect for gross indiscipline.

“I had written to him to suspend him and asking him to exculpate him before the disciplinary committee, I still have the letter with me, he knew his days were numbered and out of frustration, he decides to expel the President from the party, this is unprecedented,” Dr. Mumba said.

“I wanted to protect him because I thought he was a civilized man, unfortunately he has proven otherwise and because of his gross indiscipline, I have with a very heavy heart decided to expel him from the MMD pending ratification by the National Executive Committee.”

He said Major Kachingwe had been compromised by the PF and was working against the ideals of the party.

“When I said lets rebrand the MMD, these are some of the elements I spoke about,” he said.

Dr. Mumba maintained that he does not hold dual membership saying the Reform Party was dissolved in 1997.

“I don’t belong to any other party apart from the MMD, the Reform Party was dissolved in 2007, 2007 was the last year we made the returns to the Registrar. I was readmitted to the MMD in 2008 by Katele Kalumba, records are there to show,” he said.

He also announced that MMD Vice President for Administration Dr. Brain Chituwo will reorganize the secretariat until a new acting National Secretary is appointed.

  12. LT, your report is misleading, Which is which, Kachingwe ‘validated’ or ‘invalidated’ Mumba’s presidency of the party?
    Looking at the 2 pictures of how Kachingwe was roughed up and Mumba’s statement on the other hand it looks like we are going to witness brutal encounters between the 2 factions in the days ahead. I suspect the PF has a hand in all of this.

    • I agree with you, those kids have no respect, but clearly they were tasked by adults to do that. Without the adult’s (their leaders} involvement in the background these things would never have happened.

    If no arrest are done, then the list to ICC will be even shortlisted to few police commanders.

  35. It looks to me that Major Kachingwe was ready for this fight, why else would a senior official of a  party be dressed in track suit reporting for work. This may look bad but it was stage managed for impact, now MCS has evidence, he probably already has an appointment for his “boy”, what is most surprising it took only a few chibuku drunk hired lads to hound him out and not the bull dozer and crane he wanted, wonder where the secretarait security lads were?

These creatures belong in prison and have no place in a civilized society. Gone are the days when young people had respect for older people and the law. Worse still, gone are the days when adults behaved with decorum. As much as Mumba disagrees with Kachingwe, he has no right to unleash a pack of violent mulfeasants on him. What happened to the Christianity that Zambians are so fond of talking about? This picture is a sad one for our country and all right thinking Zambians must condemn Mumba. Failure to dialogue and dependency on party hooligans to settle disputes should be a thing of the past.   52. I don’t like the politics of MMD, but I think the nation needs it for the sake of democracy. We need the opposition in this country. As a result I don’t approve of what is going on in MMD. At the same time, I strongly believe that Mr Mumba is not the right person to lead MMD; Because of his religious fundamentalism, he is not very objective; he rules by whims and that is not good. Let him resign, the damage done to him is big; no serious person will trust him anymore. To serve MMD, Mr. Mumba should go.

    Does this has anything to do with the private visits, you have been making to Nkwazi House at Plot 1? Just how many silver coins are you to receive to undermine MMD. Or what job you are about to get in PF, now that you will join PF.

    If this is the way forward, then MMD you better kiss to Goodbye. Else, let those with wisdom within MMD, come and correct this volcanic eruption in MMD Party.

  70. our country is one i least expect to see such kaponyas victimizing an elderly person like that! i expected Dr. pastor mumba to condemn that behavior if he is serious with his so called re-branding of MMD.  this marks how serious the factions are in MMD. Where was ZP when the major was being dragged even after he called them. I expect ZP to arrest those thugs including their leader who sent them. he was even boasting of sorting out the major on national tv. I hope ZP will treat this issue with the seriousness it deserves!!

Major Kachingwe fraudulently assigned the stand to S.N. Patel and S.H. Patel through the use of a duplicate certificate of title with he obtained on the pretext that the original certificate had been lost when in fact this was not the case. The fraud becomes even more serious ….[i learnt this in Law School about Major Kachingwe]

Sad Kachingwe had to be assisted to leave the party on account of lack of principles based on a number of mismanaged issues. 1- As Secretary of the party he should have ensured all statutory returns of the party were up todate. When the party was found with huge arreas of unpaid statutory fees, the back stoped at his office. He was squarely to blame for bringing the party into disrepute which should have been followed by punitive measures on him personally. 2- Kachingwe was the key man in selecting parliamentary candidates in all constituencies in MMD. His assessment on candidates was based on what was gained from them in monetary terms. Kachingwe worked hand in hand with disgraced Liato in syphoning money from most unpopular MMD candidates imposed on voters. RB was aware of this.

  76. After the elections Kachingwe should have set himself aside for a more competent person to be elected. Had said it before, that changes come with challenges and those found unwilling to change will find themselves as misfit in the changing process. Kachingwe finds himself in that position and when he was discovered to resist change he boasted as a soldier to require a crane to move him away. His capitulation is a lesson to others to take on board the changing political environment and be ready to fit the new political dispensation or become irrelevant. PF may relish this as it scavenges of those discarded by others. However, its time PF members also realise that they do not rely on rejects as has been the case at the expense of their committed members.

  90. If somebody had to sit and analyse the whole issue a lot of things with no answers is comining out. Firstly how did the youth know that Kachingwe was expelling his boss? No sooner had Kachingwe finished his rants had the reporters emerged and that guy from the regitrar of societies to give a statement against Mumba Nevours. In the shortest time possible. And the youths they never beat Kachingwe but only roughed him up. The whole issue was stage managed and sponsored by the PF the way it looks. Even the person who whisked Kachingwe was also sponsored. There is no way those youths could force him to get into a vehicle they did not know. And an angry mob could not mind how Kachingwe would move and cant find him a vehicle.
