THE wrangles in MMD have continued to deepen with two vice-presidents of the Party differing over the expulsion of the National Secretary Richard Kachingwe and the dual membership of party president Nevers Mumba.

While MMD vice-president for administration Brian Chituwo condemns the expulsion of Major Kachingwe and calling on the National Executive Committee (NEC) to meet, MMD vice-president for politics Michael Kaingu says the decision by some NEC members at an impromptu meeting held a fortnight ago to expel Maj Kachingwe was final.

Dr Kaingu has maintained that the decision to expel Maj Kachingwe was final and would not be reversed and NEC would not meet to discuss the issue.

Dr Kaingu said in an interview yesterday that the move taken by NEC to expel Maj Kachingwe and reverse the letter to invalidate Dr Mumba’s presidency shall not be reversed and discussed at any forum.

“There is no need to call for a NEC meeting to look into the decision that the same NEC members made. It doesn’t work like that anywhere in the world. Dr Chituwo was not there when this decision was being made and we won’t hold him responsible for the statement he made,” he said.

He said the decision to expel Maj Kachingwe and reinstate Dr Mumba was the general consensus of the party members from the top leadership to the grassroot and that the decision was final.

He said the NEC members who made this decision acted based on the feelings of the general membership on the ground.

“I am a vice- president of the party for politics and I am in touch with the people on the grassroot, what was decided by the NEC during the meeting was reasonably accepted by the general membership including those on the grassroot,” he said.

He said some members had actually been calling to warn him against fighting the president of the party, saying doing so would not help build the MMD.

Dr Chituwo and MMD chairperson for women Affairs Catherine Namugala held a Press briefing on Saturday to denounce the decision made by some NEC members to expel Maj Kachingwe.

He said it was important for a full NEC meeting to be called for the matter to be discussed amicably as the two decisions made by Maj Kachingwe and Dr Mumba were contrary to the party constitution.

  1. So only UPND has no wrangles in the party..MMD needs a serious overhaul, PF only need to shut this so called kabimba

  2. I like this Kaingu man,so decisive and firm.Chituwo and Namugala can follow that Idyot Namulambe,Kachingwe’s issue is history.Congrats Kaingu and shame on Chituwo and his girlfrien Namugala.

  3. THE BIGGER THE PARTY, THE MANY ARE THEWRANGLES. THE SMALLER THE PARTY, THE SMALLER THE WRANGLES. HOW CAN YOU EXPECTWRANGLES IN A VERY SMALL REGIONAL PARTY COMPOSED OF A FEW TRIBESMATES? WRANLES MUST BE THERE TO TEST THE GENUINENESS OF YOUR COMMITMENT. WHAT MATTERS IS HOW YOU RESOLVE THEM. WE HAVE HEARD OF DEFECTIONS FROM UPND IN THE PAST, WE HAVE HEARD OF AN MP BEING THREATENED IN UPND FOR TALKING TO PF.

  4. Dr. Brian Chituwo you are a very sober man who comments on issues with integrity. I have respect for you. What you have said has sense. Some of your colleagues in NEC are helping your party to go to the political mortuary sooner than expected. Some of cannot see a thick wall in front of your party. Though UNIP is silent now you will not hear such wrangles taking place in MMD! A political party cannot be governed like a private firm for an individual. What has been happening in MMD for the past few weeks will cost the party a very deep scar that will never heal.

  5. Let them accept and inform Zambians officially that it is the end of MMD…let PF rule as the largest political party,UPND and other contitute only below 10% of total electotate

  6. All this confusion is emanating from “Don’t kutina” slogan. Even your Boss when you feel like punch because it is Don’t kutina. The slogan is being fulfilled!!!!

  7. There has always been efforts to discredit Dr Nevers Mumba, first accused of stealing money in Austrila, and now all this wrangles, Zambian politics is just full of rubbish non issue based loud mouth good for nothing danda heads yapping nonesense,

  8. The problem with our so called parties is that they have sitting presidents who become all powerful and dictatorial. It was unconstitutional for Mumba to organise a meeting where his and his enemy’s futures were being decided. A crisis was triggered when Kachingwe unilaterally decided to invalidate Mumba’s election. The only solution would have been to hold a full NEC meeting. Instead, they called an impromptu meeting from which certain people were excluded. Kaingu here is now purporting himself to be the sole representative of the membership and is saying that others have no say.

  9. Two wrongs do not make it Right. Kachingwe was wrong to unilaterally declare the election of Mumba as null and void without the consent of the Board – MMD NEC. Simiraly we are informed that a quorum was not formed at the so called NEC meeting that expelled Kachingwe so on that point alose Kachingwe could not be expelled. The facts are plain simple and thus Dr. Chitowo is correct in his assertion. Kaingu is just playing misplaced patronage and not being principled

  10. the problem here is that all mmd “true blues” are cowards and have either runaway from the party or are just quiet while strangers in the party are busy wreaking havoc. its like the “true blues” know that mmd is sinking and are resigned to that fate. how the mighty has fallen.
