Scores of women from both Mazabuka and Chikankanta districts in southern province yesterday morning turned up in numbers to undergo free cervical cancer screening at Mazabuka District Hospital.

And first lady Dr. Christine Kaseba has donated five million Kwacha cash towards the ongoing mobile cancer screening exercise at Mazabuka District Hospital.

A check by ZANIS this morning around 06:00 hours at the District hospital found long queues of women waiting to be tested for cervical and breast cancer by a team of specialists who have traveled from Monze District to conduct cancer screening in Mazabuka District.

Some women interviewed said they wanted to take advantage of the two days period that the hospital authorities have organized to undergo cancer screening. The screening is taking place in both Mazabuka and Chikankata Districts.

And making the donation on behalf Dr. Christine Kaseba in Mazabuka this morning, office of the first lady technical advisor, Judith Mwila said the five million kwacha donation is meant to help easy some of the challenges that may be faced in the screening exercise.

Mrs. Mwila said the first lady has decided to donate the money in order to help organizers meet some of the financial challenges that may be faced in conducting the exercise more especially that it was being run on a mobile basis.

She said the first lady is committed to helping women on issues that affect their health adding that her office will do everything possible to ensure that a screening facility is established in Mazabuka District to help more women access cancer screening services.

And receiving the donation, Mazabuka District Hospital Superintendent Dr. Namagugu Sibanda thanked Dr. Kaseba for the donation which she said will help meet some of the operational costs that are needed to run the mobile screening exercise which started yesterday and ends today.

Dr. Sibanda charged that two days was not enough to cancer for the population of Mazabuka and Chikankata Districts saying if funds permitted the exercise could have gone for a longer period.

She disclosed that more women are willing to have themselves tested for cancer but can not do so because of lack of a screening facility.

Mazabuka District Commissioner Eugene Munyama yesterday donated one million five hundred thousand kwacha cash towards the organization of the mobile screening when he flagged off the exercise.

  1. what is k5 million? It’s as good as nothing.Had she made the donation in noerthern zambia the amount would have been staggering.

  2. heee eya!this woman needs a budget like yesterday–K5M cash donation -na chenga!!anyway every little bit helps…maybe it can go mu ma logistics…but a K5M donation seems like a paltry sum to be writing about–olo its for the sake of transparency owing to the controversial nature of the office of the first lady fund?

    • How was the technical director hired was she interviewed will she be entitled to gratuity pension a provident fund or what? In four years the real DPP WILL be a busy man

  3. No amount of donated cash will ever be enough. Every little amount helps. Thanks for the donation. Try to go to far lying areas like Nsama District. There people see no such donations, which others are calling too little! Go to Nsama District and help our rural people as well. The district has only a small rural health post. They would welcome your works there. Other district ever receive donations and major developments whilst others never see anything at all! What a fair society.

  4. Nafuti, nafuti, same things from Chiluba to Mwanawasa to Rupiah Banda. same stories, you cannot donate Government Money as though it is from your pocket. How much does she earn to make such a donation. This donation mentality will never end in Zambia. Why is she fooling around with Government money ‘kwati ni ndalama sha ba wishi?’ You cannot take money from the Treasury to make a donation…… nonsense..

  5. KAILI NABA DONATOR YOU CAN INCREASE THE SCREENING DAYS OUT OF THE DONATED MONEY. THATS WHAT THAT MONEY WAS MEANT FOR- ANY MATTERS ARISING.

TO THE FIRST LADY- THANKS VERY MUCH FOR HAVING YOU AS OUR FIRST LADY. I LOVE THE IDEA OF HAVING HEALTHY WOMEN AND CHILDREN FIRST. MEN AREN’T ANATOMICALLY SO COMPLICATED TO ADMINISTER HEALTHILY.

  6. its not fair to condemn her based on the little amount, but seriously, do the math madam, the government spent about 7.5 million tax payers money to make sure you are there..(security, food, clothing, fuel, bonuses to people who accompanied you…the list goes on) and you just left 5 million….lets be serious here.

  7. I am not complaining, just wondering! But why is it that when a private citizen like me donate foodstuff and clothes worth more than K5m to Orphanages, no one writes about it in papers nor mentions it on tv or radio, BUT when a politician donates even K1m, it will be all over de news! Why why?

  8. Shame to those who were condeming the budget allocation to first lady’s office, so u can now start accounts and subtract 5million from the 1.5bln.
