FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya hails good practice match

FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya says Zambia’s 0-1 loss to Tanzania was a good but tough match in which the Chipolopolo were unlucky not to score a goal.

The FAZ chief says on the FAZ official website, today, that Tanzania were worthy winners as they grabbed what he called a well taken goal and were determined against an Africa champion squad which commences its final preparations for the 2013 continental soccer show piece on 26 December in Johanesburg.

Said Kalusha: “The match against Tanzania was a good practice match. It was a tough encounter but in the end a very good training game.”
Added the FAZ chief: “I thought our boys did well for long moments and were just unlucky not to have gotten a goal ourselves. Credit to the Taifa Stars for their determination and well taken goal.”

“Most importantly, the match provided Herve Renard a good opportunity to see more boys in action before naming his 26 man squad to prepare for the Africa Cup finals,” Kalusha said.

Thanks to a Mrisho Ngassa strike just before the break, Tanzania pulled off what may go down as a famous result against the reigning African champions. Zambia hit the upright twice and came close a number of times but could not find a way past Juma Kaseja as the hosts rallied and held on to their first half lead.

Herve Renard will now announce the 26 man squad to start the Nations Cup preparations in Johannesburg on 26 December. In between the intensive preparations for the defence of the title, Zambia will play Morocco on 8th January in Johannesburg, Norway at Levy Mwanawasa in Ndola on 12th January and Namibia on the 15th.

The kings of African football open their campaign to retain the Nations Cup title with a match against Ethiopia on 21st January before taking on Nigeria who return to Afcon finals competition after failing to qualify for the 2012 finals.

Chipolopolo end the group campaign against Burkina Faso – all at Mbombela.

  1. chris katongo, felix katongo, chamanga and kalililo kakonge are finished and shud nt be included instead we need to call clifford, singuluma, fwayo, roja kola en mbesuma

  2. Tanzania are not a strong team.Zambia did not play like a champion. Its time we started winning convincingly and not by what look like flukes if we are to defend the cup.

    • There are no more underdogs in african soccer, days are gonna when the so called ‘small footballing nations’ were losing games before even the match started. We eliminated cameroon in olympics games for africa qualifying, we won against burkinafasso in their home ground, we drew with Algeria in their home ground. and in world cup 2014 qualifying we are doing very fine ivory coast is ahead of us by 1 point and morocco is behind us by 1 point, Underrate/estimate Tanzania in your own risk.

If your team will go to South Africa with this mentality i can assure you that, Ethiopia and burkinafasso will beat you because of your ego,  don’t fool yourself, at a given day any team can beat any team.

  3. Why don’t you rename the FAZ website and FB page; the Kalusha Bwalya fan club as all we see on there are photos of the president….that website is supposed to be a touchpoint for FAZ to show the nation where it is investing funds for football development. All we see is boot-licking  hero-worshipping and self promotion of this president; in Europe people do even see their FA presidents.
Let’s get serious FAZ is not Kalu’s company.
    Wake up blind fans!!

  4. i watched the match in Dar es salaam where we lost a goal to taifa stars, the problem with our chipolopolo boys is poor delivering and off targets . if we had mayuka in that game we could worn even by 3 goal especially when stoppila was introduce the game was so good .
