All MMD District chairpersons in Northern Province have passed a vote of no confidence in their party president, Nevers Mumba, and want him to resign on moral grounds.
Speaking on behalf of other MMD leaders, Mbala District party chairman, Odonovena Kalyati, said time had come for the former ruling party to have capable people in leadership positions.
Mr Kalyati charged that Dr Mumba has failed to aspire confidence in the MMD members, hence their call on him to relinquish his party position and allow others with a clear vision to lead the former ruling party.
He urged the National Executive Committee (NEC) to urgently convene a meeting and find a solution to the protracted wrangles in MMD.
Mr Kalyati further called for an end to arbitrary suspensions of party members by the top leadership, charging that the move was weakening the party further.
Meanwhile, Mr Kalyati has demanded the immediate dissolution of the Northern Province Executive Committee (PEC) for allegedly failing to provide leadership in the running of party affairs in the region.
He charged that the Steven Mukuka-led executive has become dormant and a liability to the MMD.
Mr Kalyati said Northern Province needs party leaders that can motivate members to rally behind the former ruling party.
Recently, MMD Provincial chairman, Steven Mukuka, urged party members in the province to stop calling for the resignation of Dr Mumba as MMD president before his term of office expires.
Mr Mukuka further urged genuine MMD members to rally behind the leadership of Dr Mumba if the party was to remain a formidable opposition in the country.

He will use all means to destabilize all the opposition parties because that is his only survival. “Odonavena”??? sounds more like a Rwandan name to me than a Zambian one -may be wrong??. Who ever he is he has a right if he is MMD member to express his views but to get their leader out to resign is wishful thinking as all MMD stractures endorsed Dr. Mumba at the only political party convention where there were more than two presidential aspirants. Ask Sata when he has had his convention since he came into opposition?
Thats the way it is when you use God’s platform to get known and subsequently enter politics to cheat people.

He plays defense, middle field and in the attack line up and scores a lot of political goals that go practically unanswered by opposition team who are busy blaming each other for the goals that MC Sata is scoring. I don’t like what is happening in MMD and especially with Pastor Mumba. I sympathize with him, because I try to put myself in his shoes. I would not be comfortable if I were a leader of any organization and then some of my members were always criticizing me publicly. He is having a difficult time. However, when he was elected president of MMD, i commented that he was not the right person for that job simply because of his pentecostal background that makes him not to be objective. There in his church, he can say anything, nobody objects; he can interpret the bible errorneously, as he actually did, people had no forum to question. Now in his role as a president of a party, things are different. He has a mind of a pentecostal pastor and he is interpreting things from that point of view
He will not lead this party properly. Things are already bad; let him step down. The sooner the better. There is already a paradigm shift in MMD; no matter what he does, nothing will improve his image. Next time, even an ***** will insult him, and look at him as a person with no leadership qualities. Politics is very difference from church. In church when a pastor speaks, the congregants listen and follow because there is no democracy but righteousness with God.
Nevers said ‘he was the minster for the very high and pursuing a political office at any level was going to be a demotion’. What happened to that powerful decree and declaration for Pastor Mumba?
The once respected Pastor Nevers Mumba became greedy, materialistic, and power angry negating God’s calling along the way.
Nevers is going nowhere politically and he will be better returning to the pulpit and salvage the little respect that he may still have. Do the right thing Nevers, go back, ask for forgiveness from God. You know that the wages of sin is…..
