Wedson Nyirenda Quits As Zesco United Coach

Share

Wedson Nyirenda has quit as Zesco United coach.

Nyirenda quits barely one year gone into a three year deal that started on January 1, 2012.

Zesco secretary Justin Mumba told Zesco’s official website that the club was sad to see Nyirenda leave.

“It’s with heavy heart and sadness that the club would like to announce that the head coach Mr. Wedson Nyirenda has resigned and left the club with immediate effect,” Mumba stated.

Nyirenda leaves Zesco together with his assistant Dabid Chilufya.

Mumba said Tennant Chembo will take temporal charge of the team while a permanent replacement is sort.

“As a club we regret his departure, it must be emphasized that he arrived at his decision on his accord without any undue influence regarding this decision, it should be realized that as a club we have repeatedly backed him to continue leading the club beyond 2013,” Mumba said.

“As a club we have wished him all the very best.

“Wedson has been the club’s most successful coach to date and as a club we acknowledged his contribution by bestowing the honorary membership, the club’s highest honor on him last month.”

Nyirenda won back-to-back league titles in his first tenure at Zesco in 2007 and 2008 including a treble in the former year.

He finished third in his second tenure at Zesco in 2012 on 54 points, two less than Power Dynamos and a further seven behind champions Zanaco whom he coached from 2009 to 2011.

  1. They call him the Zambian Mourinho and he behaves as such. He may not be as lucky with the next team. Sad one can leave a club as financially supportive as ZESCO. Maybe he had no choice.

  2. Wedson, always on the move. Why? You should be gloaming your own players not chancing where your friends have sowed. *****.

  3. Let him go, players were complaining bitterly how he was treating them like prisoners, he cant leave on his own its a gimmick he was just told to resign instead of tarnishing his name. mwende luweme.

  4. Indeed he might not be lucky coz a man of God should be telling the truth. He was asked by Zesco management if he was going to be with team for 2013 season and he said yes. Wedson remember not all mondays will be the same.
He promised Zesco United mountains at the start of 2012 season and he failed to climb. wherever you are going remember to be saying the truth.

  5. He might be going to one of the mine sponsored teams because Power and Zanaco dont need him now. He cant win the league with Nchanga rangers either. He has been lucky coaching financially sound teams and now we willl see how good he is.

  6. CHIWA-NO. 9 YOU ARE RIGHT ON IT IS ONLY PATRICK PHIRI WHO CAN DO THINGS FOR ZESCO. SHORTLY NAPSA WILL BE REGRETING THEIR ACTION.

  7. Let them hire Mushota to be assisted by Nick… They should consider Douglas Chiwaya for the midfield…
Lime will be better than Zega this season, Ndola will rely behind Lime this time around noti bakashimya wamalaiti

  8. good for zesco let them pay for sidelining masautso mwale they thought wedson has zesco at heart he is off to mozambique to make his money and has taken with him the technical bench for zesco. masautso mwale is a true coach as he kept konkola mine police in the premire league, whom fans considered as vistors to the league zesco should consider mwale for the job he has players who can change zesco before wedson takes him

  9. He has been offered a coaching Job by malawi , to coach the flames after kinah phiri was fired. Meet you at Afcon 2015 WEDDY

  10. Good to leave when your services are disparately need than chased when your performance is down. Hope you will leave up to your new employers’ expectations. You may just be the one to open doors for the likes of Linos and other Zambian coaches into Mozambique.Good luck Wedson
