Suspended Livingstone Mayor Aggrey Njekwa has denied being paid by the government for him not to stand in the coming Livingstone parliamentary by elections.
He said that there was no way someone can influence him not to stand because each and everyone have a right to make their decisions.
He said that he has a political party where he belongs which is the United Party for National Development (UPND), adding that he had better options to join Movement for Multy-Part Democracy when Rupiah Banda was the republican because he interacted a lot with him.
Mr Njekwa was speaking when he held a press briefing at his residence in Livingstone yesterday.
He has since warned legal action against any person found circulating information that he was paid by government.
Meanwhile Mr Njekwa has disclosed that the decision to suspend the Livingstone Town Clerk and two others was recommended by the Southern province Permanent Secretary Dr Chileshe Mulenga and the council only adhered to the decision and called for a full council meeting to discuss the way forward.
He further said that council looked at the aspects of the recommendation from the Permanent Secretary and a decision was arrived at to recommend to the Local Government Service Commissioner so that
the Town Clerk was to continue working until they receive communication from local government service commission to say that the recommendation from the Livingstone city council is hereby adhered to.
“It was not Council who wrote direct to the affected officers, I must tell you that on 12 December 2012 I had charges against the Town clerk, but I took her as a sister because i wanted her to celebrate
her Chrismas peacefully so I did not charge her, he said.
Mr Njekwa vowed to remain a member of UPND boosting of being a very powerful politician in Livingstone.
“The Minister of Local Government should know that I’m a powerful politician, whether she likes or not come 2016 I will still win the elections, I understand local government because I’m a student of local
government in South Africa, Mr Njekwa said.
Recently the Minister of Local Government and Housing Emerine Kabanshi suspended the Livingstone city council for unlawfully suspending the Livingstone Town Clerk Vivian Chikoti, Director of Public Health Mr George Kumoyo and Director of Engineering Mr Renny Shidelele pending his retirement.

iwe ka Njekwa you must be a very dull chap and I curse all those who ushered you into the office of Mayor. How can you claim to be more knowledgeable in local govnt circles when you have not even graduated from the course???? you have done nothing for the residents and the city looks pathetic with no piped water and hardly no amenities in the city. Dont temper to interfere with Vivien and let her do the work because she ids very astute in the local govnt issues. Just go and ask HH to give u a job as a chief cadre !!!!!!
Is this the Aggrey Njekwa who failed form 3 at Canisius secondary school? where did he finish his education? if he is the one fella was a good footballer anyway!
Hey remember even when our current president was coming in power people were saying he is not educated but we voted for him saying it is not education that matters but now why on Njekwa chech your records guys.
I remember this character from Dambwa Primary school. Not an intelligent person. Later he joined Customs and Excise, played for the defunct Custex Wanderers. If he disputes, let him come out and give us his credentials, nothing much to be proud of. How can Livingstone develop when it has a low calibre Mayor. In Zambia, we thrive on politics of the stomach and not quality.

Aggrey was just a footballer at the defunct Custex Wanderers and cannot claim to be more learned than Vivien,oh please this is not Dambwa North or Dambwa Central this is the Tourist Capital City of Zambia.Let us have proper leaders in place.
Spot on Mwiyeo. I know Aggrey very well from Dambwa Primary school. He was a goal keeper whilst there with very poor grade 7 results. Not sure which secondary school he went to, but the next time I saw him was at Custex Wanderers working for Customs and Excise. Later, he became Chairman for Livingstone Pirates. He has no pedigree say in business and I wonder why people in L/stone can put such a low calibre person to head a Tourist Capital. We need councillors with modern ideas so that our Tourist Capital can develop and realise its potential. Nothing personal against Aggrey, but am shocked at the choice of Livingstone Councillors to pick him as a Mayor.
Politicks you don’t boast that you are powerfull politicians need to be humble you canot be powerfull on your own it is people who put you there so don’t boast because the same people can remove you from that power
Is he not the same one who hounded out the coloured former Town Clerk? Looks like his wife suspected something that is why she keeps telling him to fire female Town Clerks.
