President Michael Sata has charged that the UPND is a small organization and a one-man centred party.

Mr Sata was speaking at State House in Lusaka yesterday during the swearing-in ceremony of UPND Itezhi Tezhi Member of Parliament (MP) Greyford Monde as Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Livestock.

Mr Sata told Mr Monde that he would have found it difficult to develop Itezhi Tezhi had he continued belonging to the UPND.

President Sata charged that the UPND is a small organization and a one-man centred party.

“And you, Mr Monde, you are welcome. I know Itezhi Tezhi very well but belonging to a small organisation like UPND which is a one-man centred party, there is nothing you can do in Itezhi-Tehzi, you can’t even develop the road from Itezhi-Tehzi to Kalomo, from Itezhi-Tehzi to Mazabuka and from Itezhi-Tehzi to Monze.

“You have come to a larger family and the people must come first and you second, because if you think someone says don’t join the Government, at least me, I am going to provide you with an office, a vehicle, driver, fuel which the party you belong to did not give you,” Mr Sata said

Mr Sata was confident that Mr Monde would work diligently.

Mr Monde, who was appointed by President Sata on Wednesday, has become the first UPND MP to accept a Government ministerial position besides several other MMD parliamentarians appointed to serve in the Patriotic Front (PF) Government.

And UNITED Party for National Development UPND President, Hakainde Hichilema has reiterated his party postion that newly appointed Deputy minister of agriculture, Itezhi tezhi UPND Member of Parliament Greyford Monde faces expulsion from the party.

Speaking to Breeze News monitored in Chipata today , Mr Hichilema said that Mr Monde knows the consequences of accepting a ministerial position in the PF government.

He said that the UPND has a strict policy that states that no MP would accept to work with the PF Government as minister or deputy minister.

And UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma has said that Mr Monde was currently facing past disciplinary measures at Constituency and district level for alleged destabilising the opposition party.

“Mr Monde was already facing some disciplinary action from his Constituency and District, so that disciplinary process will continue and if he’s found guilty appropriate measures will be taken.

If he’s innocent, he will be acquitted, but if he’s going to be expelled, it will not be on account that he has been appointed Deputy Minister,” he said.

SATA needs to know its not him who gives but its part of a ministers or deputy ministers condition of service to have those things..

    • I have never understood why PF MPs would not feel betrayed when they are constantly being passed over for cabinet positions in favor of the opposition. I guess they have accepted that they are incompetent. The president may consider UPND to be a small party but his actions and reactions suggest that UPND is the party that gives him (and his Post newspaper) sleepless nights.

      I thought the Zambian people paid for all those privileges so the Ministers can work for them (the people).

      Zambians need to change, its embarrassing these days to be called a Zambian. When someone accepts a ministerial position they agree to work for government (which is the people) NOT a party. Mr President, education is important, I am glad you are showing the youth of today why.

  16. Am ok with Sata appointing opposition MPs to serve in his cabinet. Just that they have to be ratified by parliament before they can assume office. Obama appointed former Senator Hagel a republican to be secretary of defence but the senate has to approve him first. Let us learn from these developed countries how they do it and apply it to our conditions. If HH ever becomes president he should work with and appoint PF MPS in his cabinet. I would not want alll UPND deputy ministers. 3 or 4 is a good number.

My hunch is that Sata is indirectly answering the Pastoral letter from the catholic bishops on the issue of “too many costly by elections”. He is saying I’m not the one causing them, its the opposition, look at itezhi tezhi. When you read between the lines he’s also accusing the mighty catholic church of also causing a BIGGER by election in the vatican. “The pope has abdicated, and there’s a by election in March in Rome, so why do u blame me alone?” he asks.   23. Government depends on taxes paid by citizens to carry out its activities. However, the President told Monde that for Government to develop an arrear, the MP should be a member of PF. My MP is not PFand thus I shall not see any development . So why should I pay the KR198 600 (no mistake, almost K200 million) income tax I pay to ZRA every month as an individual since I shall see no development unless this MP joins PF ? But he wont since he already has a house, car, office,driver, wife, fuel since he is already a rich businessman.

At the rate things are going, I see two things happening to Hichilema in the next three and half years, (1) He will either die from a heart attack after failing to overcome the bitterness that has consumed his spirit, soul, body, strength and mind after seeing the successesses of His Excellency Michael Sata or he will contest the 2016 elections as a counsellor in Monze because the PF is now making very serious inroads into his own bedroom of Southern Province. Instead of launching out to other regions he is being forced to thinely hold on to the popularity he has enjoyed from that region as a result of hailing from there.
