The Zambian Voice has described the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) as an institution that is now being used as a clearing agency for corrupt leaders serving in Government or friends of Government, inststead of instead of providing the much desired service of stopping corruption.
In a reaction to media reports that ACC has cleared Justice minister Wynter Kabimba and his defence counterpart Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba, the Zambia Voice said in the press release that they were shocked to read that the two Ministers have been cleared of corruption charges, despite saying in a reponse to their update request on the 28th January that the case was not only active, but also that the commission would give a report on the same as soon as possible.

The Zambia Voice was also enraged by the fact when they decided to phone the ACC to verify the story, ACC refused to comment on the report and could neither confirm nor refute the story.
“This to us means ACC provided the story otherwise they would have sharply refuted the story making an official position to confirm or deny the publication, ” read the statement.
” We are very disappointed and doubt the ability of the Director General to lead us to that corrupt free promised Zambia which the PF sang about during their campaigns,” continued the statement.
“We also doubt our Michel Angelo, the President, how allergic he is to corruption because this dubious clearance of Wynter and GBM can be attributed to his speech at State on 6th December 2012 when he castigated ACC for summoning Wynter.”
“How can ACC clear Wynter after failing to question him on 3rd January 2013 when he spat on the faces of ACC that he was larger than the institution, ” the Zambia Voice asked.
The Zambia Voice demanded for the resignation of the ACC Commissioner Director Rollen Mukanda, because because they allege that she the unleashed officer sent to quench the corruption fight as evidenced by the President’s directives on her swearing in ceremony.

They also demanded the resignation of the Director General, Rosewin Wandi, for failing to have the guts to stand up and defend the institution by pursuing Wynter and GBM.
They said that the the allegations were so clear as provided by the two ministers themselves, who are senior ministers who would not be speaking from without.
“They both knew what they were talking about when they accused each other. How can Ms. Wandi call them liars today by saying there is no corruption on both of them, ”
“As Zambian Voice we will not rest until justice is done on this case. We would like to warn the ACC that the truth has longer legs, one day it will catch up with all of them including Wynter Kabimba, concluded the statememt signed by Chilufya Tayali the Executive Director.

You’re right Masala Market, accusations ate different from a verdict, but what worries the general public is the reluctance or unwillingness of the ACC to openly state to the nation what their findings are on the matter and therefore the grounds for either proceeding with or dropping it altogether. How can we trust an ACC that plays hide and seek?
I am shocked! cleared without questioning after mocking the ACC with the group of cadres. This is Zambia and well come to Zambia. But the Post newspaper first reported that GBM was found with the case to answer and Kabimba was cleared. Now the ACC cleared them without questioning? Any way, more popcorns please. We are yet to see more; Nchito and NChima and Mmembe will soon be cleared and RB will be soon found with the case to answer and those that are critical of our former Victoria station cleaner in South London will all have cases answer.

It is very difficult to convince an objective person that the two have been cleared considering that allegations were coming from the two cabinet ministers. It was a clear indication of a crocodile knowing how the hippo lives in the water.
This clearly demonstrates that the fight against corruption is none existent and was only used as a ploy to win sympathy votes from unsuspecting Zambians and the donor community.

I would still urge UPND to expel Monde and I will say that I’m extremely dissappointed by the move, if indeed its true. There is simply no political “harmony” between political parties in this country for the citizens to bless this kind of political prostitution. If there wasn’t so much division and perhaps if the PF Govt had a clear sense of direction one would support such moves especially if the targeted MP’s had a sound background and CV in the particular ministry involved. But we see see are useless and unprincipled young MP’s who are being lured by the promise of more money and a lavish lifestyle.

If it is true that they are innocent, it is unfortunate because it really looks dubious, even for me who gives PF a chance. If they are guilty, ACC has not become an institution to clear ruling crooks, it has been that sine Chiluba’s time. Mwanawasa’s time was the only period when they could have been a little bit more professional, but many who lived in Zambia during Mwanawasa’s time also know that it was not very easy to talk freely… But, that is not the point. The point is, the ACC has made its judgment, and we won’t forget. When another party comes into power we will bring this up. Meanwhile, let us continue setting the precedent by prosecuting those from the previous regime, so that no one cries foul when its these guys’ turn, if they are indeed guilty.
Its nice to be rich and well connected in Zambia, cause then you can get away with anything…. Case in point the gentleman in the photo above.

Can any contributor clarify who is the Chair-Person of ACC? It can be not just enlightening but also can provide definite answer to the web of corruption in the other Government Agencies/Authorities.
