Senior Chief Nkula of the Bemba speaking people in Chinsali has been discharged from hospital after a failed attempt to kill himself late Wednesday afternoon.

Muchinga Police Chief Lemmy Kajoba confirmed the chief’s attempted suicide and consequent admission to hospital.

Mr Kajoba however, said the concoction of toxic substances taken by the chief was not known yet and police were awaiting a report on the poison from hospital authorities.

“Police in the company of villagers took the chief to hospital after receiving a report that he had taken a concoction of poisonous substances to kill himself,” Mr Kajoba said.

The reasons and circumstances surrounding the failed suicide attempt by Chief Nkula were not known.

The chief was, however, rushed to Chinsali District Hospital where he received medical attention that saved his life.

Clinical specialist Charles Chungu when contacted confirmed that the chief was a patient at the hospital until he was discharged early yesterday.

Dr Chungu however, declined to state what chief Nkula was treated for during his short stay at the hospital.

“All I can say is that he was discharged this morning. He walked out of the ward unaided and he was well enough to go home,” he said.

Efforts to contact the senior chief to ask him why he took the poisonous substance that landed him in hospital proved futile as he was unreachable.

Meanwhile, a man who attempted to dethrone Chief Nkole Mfumu of the Bemba speaking people in Kasama and charged with criminal trespass has been sentenced to one year imprisonment with hard labour by a magistrate court.

Shortly after judgment was delivered, Chief Nkole Mfumu through his representative Kanyanta Mpangayonse said he was happy with the judgment as it would send a warning to those fond of wrestling for chieftaincies using underhand methods.

He said protocol and hierarchy should be followed before ascending to the position of chief.

Before magistrate Kelvin Soma was Musonda Kabwibwi, 32, who was convicted of criminal trespass after going to Chief Nkole Mfumu’s palace with intent to dethrone him.

Kabwibwi had earlier claimed in court that he was sent by Senior Chief Mwamba whom he wanted to appear before court as a witness.

But after a number of adjournments and Kabwibwi’s failure to bring witnesses before court, Mr Soma found him guilty and convicted him.

  1. Ati imfumu, chipuba mudala uyu kwena. He is a cased man and does not deserve to lead people. Suicidal behavior is a sign of bad karma! It is high time he was stripped of his position.

    • He is not a f00l! Nkandu Luo sent police to remove him from his rightful throne. He refused to comply and the police threatened to forcibly remove him and that is when he told them I cannot abandon my ancestors’ throne and I should therefore die here. He was upset & ashamed of the harassment he suffered at the hands of Zambia Police in the presence of his subjects.
PF has scared the whole of the bana Ng’andu clan. So, is this the way chiefs will be respected as stated in the PF manifesto? Shameful behaviour by Luo & Kajoba.
After this incidence, I am starting to believe that Zambia Police have lost all professionalism and have become appendages of politicians and political appointees like Nkandu Luo & Kajoba respectively in this case.

  2. What King Cobra, Ngoshe, is he doing and telling leaders is simply unbelievable, a chief can for sure opt to take his life. Some accusations are not good, Chief Nkula has nothing or can’t do much on the illness of the king.

  3. Ba chief iliko shani?? No problem is unsolvable to consider suicide as an answer. I thought who ever attempts suicide has to be thrown in jail why is the chief not in jail??

  4. Those who attempt to take thier own lives are not well, just like a person with cancer is not well. Often there are hormone or other chemical imbalances in the brain that cause such behaviour. Even medications can make people suicidal. So such people deserve our sympathy and support so they can recover and become useful members of society again. We shold not judge.

  5. Bemba chief setting an example to his subjects, so are we likely to see all these chaps imitate his “loyal higness”????????????

  6. Police in the company of villagers took the chief to hospital, senior chief nkula is disappointed with the way PF is running the government especially the removal of immunity of RB who is his traditional cousin, no fertilizer saying the Bembas have been turned into laughing stoke by all piece loving zambian. hence trying to commit suicide

  7. Chipuba sana imfumu iyi. What a fo.olis.h chief as custodian of land I dont think you can face a problem that can warrant suicide. What xample are you setting for your subjects. You are not fit to be chief let someone take over & go rot in jail.

  8. Senior Chief Nkula is in contention for the throne of Mwine Lubemba – Chiti Mukulu. Personally I am in support of Senior Chief Mwamba ascending to the high throne of Chiti Mukulu.

    • I wanted to take my life to avoid being bewitched by Senior Chief Mwamba because I am in line to succeed Mwine Lubemba – Chiti Mukulu. Maybe I should have hanged myself instead of using the poison from Sondashi 2000!

    • Namona the real story is as below. Nkandu Luo sent police to remove Chief Nkula from his rightful throne. He refused to comply and the police threatened to forcibly remove him and that is when he told them I cannot abandon my ancestors’ throne and I should therefore die here. He was upset & ashamed of the harassment he suffered at the hands of Zambia Police in the presence of his subjects.

    • Poor MundiaM, I hope you there’s someone near you to lean on. This issue seems to have emotionally drained you. For the first time you’re even attacking the almighty PF government, a cabinet minister and the upright PF police. I never thought I would witness this. I am quite sure that you are either a subject or a relative of this suicidal chief. I hope you don’t share his suicidal gene!

  9. IAM SHORT OF WORDS. THIS IS SIMPLY UNBELIEABLE FOR A MAN OF HIS STANDING IN SOCIETY TO DO THAT. IT SHOWS WE HAVE PROBLEMS IN THAT CHIEFDOM ALREADY.

  10. he is really a shame and let down to the Bemba land and twalasalafye umbi, ngabalimulekafye ayaaaaaaaaaaaaa wacabe!!!!

  11. WORDS OF WISDOM :

Someone once stated on this site and I concur, do not allow you child to ever marry the following :

    1) Nigerians
    2) Bembas or northerners
    3) People from Luapula and the Congo

Heed this advice. I am not trying to be mean but it’s one of the best advice anyone could share with you freely.

    • You are still evolving you bastardo! Every community/tribe is a mixed grill. You get the good and the evil, the wise and the foolish(you fit in somewhere here) and so on. You have no hope in hell of gracing the domain of intellect. I would not be surprised if your area is leading when it comes to the number of village *****s.

    • Ask those Lozis that got pension whilst serving in Bemba land why they have refused to go back kwa haye…

They will die in Bemba land because of beautiful nature of people.

    • Dream on! It is not possible to have “Beautiful natured” tribalists and kawalalas! They are all suicidal scum. The next time a Bemba chief wants to commit suicide he should be advised to use a gun or suicide belt. They are more effective than a chigumbuli of tujilijili.

    • Bo Malekani, even if she is revenging her brothers tough onset onto the Chief Chibesakunda throne, it is totally misguided. The 2 chiefdoms are for 2 different tribes, i.e. Chibesakunda is for Bisas and Nkula for Bembas. Why should she do this? After speaking with my aunties who are at the palace right now, I hear their was a large number of police in a very uncompromising mood.
Just to shade more light, the current Nkula has already done all the succession rites for him to occupy this throne. It is the GRZ that has not yet gazetted him. With this loop hole, I assume Nkandu Luo is working with Chief Mwamba in the laters’ grand scheme to occupy the paramount chief Chitimukulu throne. The timing is also extremely suspicious as we will soon be burying Chitimukulu. This is extremely…

  12. mwebantu you he should be on suicide watch. You don’t dischrge people just like that, he needs counselling. Bushe ku Zambia chaba shani kanshi?

  13. Bembas always, even chiefs attempting to commit suicide. I hear Nkandu Luo sent PF (Police Force) to manhandle the chief.

  14. I read a blogger ystday who narrated that in the 70s KK attempted to empower the Bembas by loaning them Oxen and Dairy cows for milk. This was an attempt to divert them from the primitive and acient Chitemene system. But within 6 months the chaps had killed all the animals for “Umunani”. So you must understand why Sata complains about HH’s heifers. The President’s only knowledge about the cows is “Umunani”. If u hang on a little while, those things multiply, unlike the 3 rifles!

  15. Someone who can not rise above pressure should not be allowed to lead.

Doesn’t a chief lead an easy life anyway. Everyone paying taxes to you (I think), people looking up to you, Mormon marital traditions,…etc

  16. I have been following issues on ba mulopwe ba Nkula. This man has really gone through alot of issue to get his rightful position. The man is a respectful and God fearing man. Personaly i feel for him because alot of people have been fighting
his right to the throne. I pray that the Lord remind him that “THE BLESSINGS OF THE LORD ADDS NO SORROW” he should just leave the throne and serve God.
He is a powerful MCF mu UCZ. Lese afweni umwana wenu,
Satan let go of the Child of God.
