Opposition leader Hakainde Hichilema has claimed that President Michael Sata is planning to seize all his assets as part of a scheme to harass and persecute the opposition.

Mr. Hichilema said President Sata’s latest move to release bank details and assets is a move towards seizing his million dollar assets.

“We know the President wants to grab my assets and hand them over to some people, this is what that they are planning and we are aware but is it a crime to own assets in this country now?”

“I have done business from the Kaunda days right through to the Banda administration and I have never been arrested for theft, infact the current President was a defacto Vice President in Dr Chiluba’s administration and I was never arrested because I never stole,” Mr. Hichilema said.

“How come President Sata is the only one who seems to have a problem with my property?”

[pullquote]Even if he mocked his political opponents such as the late Mwanawasa and George Kunda over their health, we believe we should pray for President Sata during these times[/pullquote]

Mr. Hichilema was speaking on a live radio programme on Lusaka’s Joy FM called Tikambilane Sunday mid-morning.

“Instead of the President encouraging young Zambians to own assets, he is now busy demonizing HH over his wealth. I have worked hard for what I have and I thank God for that. As a Zambian I have a right to own property in this country and universally I have a right to own property.”

Mr. Hichilema advised the PF government to concentrate on addressing real issues affecting the Zambian people.

“They promised more money but people don’t have jobs and the Mealie meal prices have skyrocketed. This is where the PF should concentrate and not on Hakainde’s wealth,” he said.

The UPND leader also advised Zambians to take time to pray for President Michael Sata.

“It is our duty to pray for our leaders but we also believe there is something wrong with our President, how else could he say that I signed the Choma declaration in 1968? Even if he mocked his political opponents such as the late Mwanawasa and George Kunda over their health, we believe we should pray for President Sata during these times.,” the UPND leader said

  1. Anyway Mr HH, dreaming is free in Zambia. You seem to run out of dreams but till now, you are unable to tell us what you are going to do for Zambians once voted. Your wealth seem to have kept you very busy sir. Just tell us your plan for Zambia instead of hiding behind some curtains.

    • It must be made clear to HH that the state will never seize assets that were legitimately acquired and if your assets fall under this, I can assure you that even though I am not a UPND supporter I will stand by you and defend you & your assets for your hard work.

But, if it turns out that you stole, manipulated or dipped your fingers into public resources, the people’s assets, then you are alone in the fight to retain your loot!

All you need to do for now is stop crying as non of your toys have been taken away & prove that you legitimately, rightly, validly, lawfully and justifiably acquired your assets & non are proceeds of crime.

Those current in public office & those aspiring to get into public office must be held to the same standards if we are to move our country forward

    • Remak Makai needs more time in a classroom so that he can be a bit more mature, knowledgeable and useful to this country. The likes of him are a danger not only to themselves but also to the prosperity of this country.

    • AYA MA ASSETS YAKUBA YASILIZA NATULO. PEOPLE WHO DON’T WORK FOR WHAT THEY OWN ARE ALWAYS SCARED OF EVEN THEIR OWN SHADOWS. WHENEVER, HE SEES HIS SHADOW HE THINKS IT’S SATA. MUZILIMBA GUYZ.

    • With greater power comes greater responsibility. It was wrong for Sata to condone the wrongs then, but it does not mean he should continue condoning it forever. Circumstances have changed and the subtle message Sata wants to let the Zambians know is that HH is not as righteous as he claims to be. Most of us asked what happened to the money from the privatization of 80% of Zambia’s parastatals. A lot of people lost their jobs and were not compensated by the liquidator; this fact is known especially in Luanshya. HH did business during KK but there was no liquidation then. Chiluba was an accomplice; LPM was Veep at the time and waived the probe when he was pres. We know Banda’s position on Chiluba’s case. This leaves Sata with knowledge of what actually happened to the privatisation money.

  2. Do not underderate our courts of law. That will not and cannot happen. Just continue mobilising your party. Spend time in eastern and northern and Muchinga. Identify influential people to work with. Never mention the word tribalism again. Never mention the Mapatizya formular again. HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH MMD.

  3. don’t pretend that you pray for Mr sata when you’re in the fo front to wish him death through your online watchdog

  4. This is what brings ZAMBIA backward. Having leaders that Spend all their time fighting each other, Instead of working for the People. We are tired of your fights. Shame on Both HH & SATA, can’t you just sort your difference privately?? What kind of leaders are YOU, what example are you giving to the citizens. NO LEADERSHIP QUALITIES, YOU MAKE ZAMBIANS LOOK CHEAP & DULL.

    • Couldn’t agree with you more..embarassing actually, running a country as if its a highschool …..#goes for both our empty opposition and our directionless rulers!!

    • You are a fool here prince who should you direct your idiocy to HH or Sata. That is the problem with drop outs you conclude too much. Its HH beakering even when he knows he stole

  5. awe naiwe hh, this is a blantant lie,
there are laws that are followed before any seizure.
what are you scared of all of a sudden?

  6. Stop fearing your own shadow HH.The president had the right to question the way you acquired those assets. You are even lucky if it was in America the FBI and CIA should have had done that Job.A big thumbs up though for having played your cards well.I know you are a good guy judging from the talk we had last time we met.I salute you on the business level but not on a political level.Aluta Continua !!!

    • Why did the current president question HH’s wealth in 1990s when Sata served under FTJ who gave alot of authority to even usurp the vice president’s power and disregard it at with impunity.

    • Iwe Cactus, dont you know that Americans are the worst brain washed chaps, if anything they have no idea of what happened or happens in other countries, ask Sara Palin and the rest of them, let alone they dont know where Fresno is, only Newyork and LA.

  7. From the most recent speeches by HH I can safely confirm that..

    1. HH has learnt a lesson from what is happening to Rupiah..
    2. HH has also learnt that if he continues to expell his MPs he will end up losing all
    3. HH now knows that truly Boma ni Boma hence seeking dialogue
    4. HH now knows that him frustrating the government wont help him get to plot 1
    5. HH has learnt that Boma has two sides, the good and the bad, he is on the bad side

However, he has also not learnt that politics can not be mixed with business, if Sata seized his property what good will that be to the nation.? Sata can not be that foolish to go after his money let alone the courts.

HH its high time you started campaigning in other provinces than waste time defending RB who will be jailed no matter how much…

  8. Two questions to be asked. If what HH owns is stollen property or property acquired through dubious means, why was he not probed when the current Republican president was Minsiter Without Portifolio at that time? Though our Judicial system is not independent, HH should think of taking legal aactions against all the banks that released his private bank statements to Micheal Sata. And then its high time Micheal Sata realized that he is the Chief Executive Officer of Zambia and therefore he needs to be very careful with the statements that he is fond of making. Let apologies be done when mistakes are spotted in his public speeches because I don’t think HH was one of those who appended their signatures on the Choma declaration in 1968. How old was HH in 1968?

    • Easier said than done when it comes to taking legal action, HH knows better why he cant do that because if it were you and I we would have done that, what does that tell you..? Sata might be right and HH wont take that route for it may just finish him, remember Sata has nothing to lose while on ther hand HH has everything to lose…thats my opinion I might be wrong….

    • Mwanawasa left a something which I am sure the State is looking at.Have YIU you questioned why Mwanawasa wanted to probe HH?The case is there just a matter of time.In the UK the late former BBC is probed for cases he committed many years ago together with others umulandu taubola bane HH be strong

  9. But the ZWD says the man is dying in state house; you are saying he wants to grab your assets; which one is which? Cry my beloved Zambia!! Even if Sata was to drop dead today, I doubt you are ready to take over. You have antagonised many who had an incling to support you and your wealth. What a people, what a country!!

  10. HH you are running out of ideas now. Do not think you are the only rich guy in Zambia? If you are clean, the law will acquit you. You are crying and defending Banda now because you both have not been straight in your dealings when saving this country. You must explain how you dealt with privatisation of the ZCCM. Do you have any idea how many souls have grumbled because of the money you purport to have worked hard for?

    • With greater power comes greater responsibility. It was wrong for Sata to condone the wrongs then, but it does not mean he should continue condoning it forever. Circumstances have changed and the subtle message Sata wants to let the Zambians know is that HH is not as righteous as he claims to be. Chiluba was an accomplice; LPM was Veep at the time and waived the probe when he was pres. We know Banda’s position on Chiluba’s case. This leaves Sata with knowledge of what actually happened to the privatisation money.

  11. Now I know why they call you “under-age” (under five). For god’s sake if you have NOT stolen, what are you worried about? Why are you panicking? Who has told you ba Sata is after your cash; most of it still hidden in offshore accounts? Take your time Mr President to be, your time will come, ‘umulandu taubola’…

By the way somebody educate me; where’s Lyato? What’s happened to the Billions we heard not long ago which he buried like ‘imfwa’?

  12. why should we pray for him..?did he have time to pray for others..let him rot..your welath is secure HH believe us..sata has no problem but the pfost guys..

  13. HH don’t cry now. You slept with Sata in the pact. You said bitter things against an innocent RB just because you wanted power. You sold your birthright for a morsel of bread. Everyone who knows what the difference between morality and politics warned you that the cobra would return to bite you, but you did not listen. LEARN Mr under-5, that the ENDS (removing MMD from power) do not justify the MEANS (Pacting with PF). Pacts are formed on more solid IDEOLOGICAL grounds and not convenience. MMD and UPND have exactly the same ideology. The only difference is pride in you Mr HH. Go to a convention and let the UPND people choose their own leader and let us see if they rejected you, whether like Christon Tembo, you would continue supporting your party. I bet you would run away with your money.

  14. iyee ,ekulandafye ukukwine sure, hh has lost it again in his speech sounds like those pipo who are so in love with’ pay back time’ . we cant have a future with so much hate in his heart,

  15. What I have learned about the Zambian situation is this: you can break any law you want for as long as you are not on the “wrong side”. As soon as you are found wanting, all those laws you broke (that you thought were “favors”), become persecution points. So, HH, if you were given any favors that resulted in some shortcuts, that is actually what might result in your property being forfeited. If there are no “favors” that were advanced, they will dig to the core of the earth and find NOTHING.

  16. After participating in privatisation of ZCCM Luanshya Division to Indians, Grant Thornton invoiced US$12 million for the job done and the govt did not scrutinise the invoice but just paid. The govt of Chiluba did not bother who was buying the former parastatal companies hence some of them were sold for a song. This situation is similar to what happened in Russia. Russia has more billionares than UK now

    • With greater power comes greater responsibility. It was wrong for Sata to condone the wrongs then, but it does not mean he should continue condoning it forever. Circumstances have changed and the subtle message Sata wants to let the Zambians know is that HH is not as righteous as he claims to be. 17. HH, It is not Sata, It is Fred Mmembe who wants your money and properties. Sata is too busy with his last kicks.

  18. HH should not worry about this finished, senile, and incontinent president suffering from some kind of crazy illness that is eating up his whole body slowly. sata should concentrate on his health, including looking after his external bladder….there is little benefit in him to concentrate on harassing someone when he is staring death in the face. In other countries, sata would have been kicked out of power by now for being of insufficient mental and physical health to be president….but this is Zambia where people with the lowest standards on earth live. All those using sata to harass Zambians should know that their time is now on count down…they will be held accountable very soon.

    • Max Mwaiche, what’s your obsession with RB kanshi? you seem to toss over the man even when the subject is about someone else. Talk about issues mwaiche not character assassinations all the time ala.

  19. HH extenalise your wealth to Democratic Republic of Barotseland. After all the kwacha is becoming worthless daily and eating the true value of your wealth.

Useless kwacha…. Zambia does not support Zambians to do genuine business unless utumachoncholi atase…

  20. Ala Bee was arrested today and released on bail. To appear in court on Tuesday. The full charges not clear what they have slapped him with.

  21. Foretold is forewarned….food for thought, if you plan on becomoing a millionaire or indeed billionaire businessman, as a Zambian, don’t do it in Zambia. Your investments in Zambia must be a myriad of complex investment vehicles……else you are in the firing line.

So what is that doing for local talent, might as well change my nationality and come in as a foreign investor.

This is madness and misdirected energy; there’s much to be done in our motherland, not this! This is not what I voted for!

  22. HH has all the rights in this world to protect what he rightfully earned. Knowing HH and is buddies in the like of Saki and Amsterdam,it keeps me wondering why they didnt come out so strongly to condemn Sata for revealing HH`s accounts and all the monies. Why,why, why? They buried theirs heads into the sand. I mean if its my money and somebody goes ahead with impunity to show the world what Im worthy, thats enough to sue through Amsterdam. But why the silence. As if it was not enough Sata goes ahead and shows the Commonwealth the same details. What is behind those monies ,Sata knows better and I believe the Commonwealth is supporting on this one.
See,HH is not really coming on very strong with his argument on how he acquired it.

  23. One party state cometely back! We aint against knowing the sources of any person’s wealth but the way its done. What is obtaining now is that so many pipo have accounted for riches but why HH only? Lets b focused imwe bantu imwee! U want to start wasting more money when we havent gained anything from these inquries. I think we r tired. This wil now divert our attention from the constitution that we want badly.

  24. HH you are such inspiration to the Zambian young generation bcoz of your hard working. Allow no useful ***** intimidate for your hardworking. We know that you are a man of integrity & principles. Only those who have been bewitched by the post believe you are a tribalist but we know the real tribalist Sata-Ukwa.

  25. Sata was policeman during the colonial era. He was a policeman when Zambia was Northern Rhodesia. He was part of the team that was locking up Zambians fighting for independence. After independence in 1964, he ran away until things cooled off in Zambia. He returned to join UNIP and straight joined the vigilant team that was fighting citizens. Later he joined MMD and everybody knows how good he was at fighting citizens including that third term fiasco when his colleagues left en masse to form FDD and Heritage Party. Now he is at the helm of national politics as leader of Zambia. Do we expect anything different? This man does not love Zambia. If what HH is saying has anything to go by, then Sata needs to be stopped before he grinds the country to a halt. Can’t he for once stop fighting…

  26. I like whats happening in the world today. Old cases are coming up front and culprits are facing court judgements: child abuse cases, murder cases, theft of funds, conspiracy to concel information, etc. Some leaders, church people etc are being persued for their wrong, trickery, or variou misconduct done many years ago. They are being made to account. If some people became rich they should know how to account for those riches. Just account for them, no jittery, no fear, no public pronouncements, no sympathy seeking, just account for what one had done. Simple. Why worry before one is subjectef to accounting for what he has?

  27. It’s things like these that have brought illnesses on Sata, and now he is not even enjoying his presidency. Sata is full of evil. And Membe is full of jealous against HH. The man worked hard for his wealth leave him alone. Sata is a very, very wrong person for Zambia. Anyway I leave it to God to deal with Sata and Membe.

  28. This is why this chap fails to break it in main stream politics. We know your enemies want to strip your wealth and finish you off. Instead of capitalising on shortages and mismanagement by GRZ, you are busy looking for the sympathy votes on your wealth. When are these guys going to learn that it’s the simple chap in the street that hold the key to power in the country. Zambia is running on remote control and the so called opposition are either mute or busy ducking and diving between prisons. Talk about how your plans to take the country out of it’s misery and the people will help you stay out of prison should these mad gangsters decide to arrest you.

  29. We know that HH got the money from privatization which he blindly and stupiidly embarked on with Chiluba. HH and Chiluba killed so many people through careless privatization– they shared the money. So we can proudly say that HH has blood money. But I doubt if Sata can arrest him for such. What I can advice HH is to stop boasting he has worked hard and hence his being rich coz we know that he got the riches he had from the evil-bloody privatization.

Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.

  30. I don’t think Sata has the power to do this. In the 2nd republic it could have happened. Not Now. Now he would need a court ruling

  31. Charity begins at home, Mr cobra Sata, why don’t we start by investigating your wealth also including that of your vice-president Guy Scott. Let’s not forget that you, Guy Scott and many more in PF have lots of assets (farms, villas, trucks, oversea bank accounts, women (Guy Scott an all time womaniser), under-age workers and more…). Please just enjoy the taste of what to come! Watch Mr Banda closely because soon It will catch up with you too! You are really a venomous Cobra Sir, your behavior confirms this, but hey, we have the anti-venom. Please refrain from unnecessary spitting of venom, let us use your venom to cure those affected by your badly managed economy and to kill all the insects that are killing the maize crops.

  32. Acccounting for everything one has is very important, every single Coin and asset that one has should really be accounted for.
Injecting some capital from unknown sources in the midst of running business, would also be discovered during the time of accounting for it.

  33. Hakainde should be eliminated in national interest. this chap will bring about genocide in this country. During our days when we were active in politics, this chap wouldnt have survived this long. This government is not taking him seriously, they need to act.
