Home Affairs Minister Edgar Lungu has asked for forgiveness from Lundazi Parish Priest Father Viateur Banyangandora.

Mr Lungu who visited Fr Banyangandora at his residence at St Paul’s Catholic Parish in Lundazi yesterday said it was prudent for him to ask for forgiveness so as to reconcile with the priest during the Easter season.

The minister said Government was looking forward to work with the Catholic Church in all aspects of life.

He urged Fr Banyangandora to continue doing the good work of looking after people and ministering to them.

And Fr Banyangandora expressed gratitude with the gesture and advice from Mr Lungu.

He encouraged the minister to feel free to visit him saying the church’s door was always open to Government.

“The door to any Government official is always open and I’m encouraging you to feel free and visit me,” Fr Banyangandora said.

In August last year, the Immigration Department deported Fr Banyangandora to Rwanda, his country of origin.

Chipata Catholic Diocese Bishop George Lungu then, demanded for an explanation from the Government over the deportation of Fr Banyangandora whom he described as his son.

Bishop Lungu said Fr Banyangandora did not commit any offence when he preached about the impasse which surrounded the marketing of cotton during mass in Lundazi.

In November last year, Government reversed the deportation order and the Priest returned to Zambia in January this year.

    • Ba Edgar, when people go to confession they never disclose the conversation they had with a priest. Just believe what Fr Banyengandora instructed you to do “… my son Lungu, your sins are forgiven, go and pray 3 rosaries”.

  1. Lungu also extend the same gesture to RB, Nevers and HH if your desire for reconciliation will have significant impact during this Esther period

    • Kanjimaano the person on his side is deputy minister. too many deputies the office is even small to accommodate. thats his office!!!

  2. lunatics and jokers are you who keep loosing election and never accept, let alone change behaviour yamene yachitonga

  3. If. Mmd govt was insensitive to catholic church priest the entire could have deported and Church banned.
Pf govt is running the country on knee jerk reaction

  4. A sign of true leadership Hon Lungu. All this in the spirit of Easter. May the Almighty God be praised!

  5. GRZ should compensate the man for violating his rights and making him spend a fortune while in Rwanda. He may not sue them because he is a priest, but it is best they compensate him for making him go through all the distress. Zambia does not belong to a select few, but it is for all law abiding persons who live there.

  6. Tis reckless and expensive if govt keeps a posture of shoot first then ask questions later. We’re talkin of this priest, may be..just may be Thandiwe Banda and others. The burden on zambian taxpayers will be enormous if in the end these people prove they had no case to answer for and sue for compensation.

  7. Shambles! And they continue to ‘deport’ people without following due process. Iwe Ka Lungu can you please compensate that man for the suffering you caused …from your own pockets, not wasting tax payers money on your own styupidity.

  8. The best so far in this HOLY WEEK in the Christian Nation, RECONCILIATION! Fr, forgive and forget! Have a Blessed Holy weekend Mr Lungu.

  9. Nayo nayo pa zed. is this issue part of thoz listed by the commonwealth? otherwiz, kwamoneka kwati twamba ukunakilila nomba..yaba.

  10. As a government, hold your apologies for significant matters. Otherwise, you start to look like wimps and lose respect.

  11. U DEMONS THAT IS A WISE MOVE BY LUNGU. ONLY REAL HUMAN BEING DO THAT NOT THESE DEMONS ABOVE IN,COGLAVE,POUL KALINGONGO. IT IS WONDERFUL THE PRIEST DOES THINK LIKE U DEMONS WHO KILL,STEAL AND DESTROY. NO ROOM 4 4GIVENESS.WELL DONE MR LUNGU.

  12. “I can confirm that Fr Banyangandora was deported to Rwanda in order to safeguard the rule of law and order in the country. Right now he has even arrived and re-united with his family members in that country,” Edgar Lungu said (LT August 3, 2012)

This is why I stated at the beginning of this saga that ministers should NEVER comment on individual’s cases – now he is eating humble pie. Its a pity that our country has his calibre for a Ministry of Home Affairs. I doubt it if Edgar Lungu is always sober at the office..this guy is the worst minister of home affairs we have ever had…please urgently send him to Alcoholic Anonymous (AA).

  13. am always inspired by edgar and this gvt.humbness is wat makes gvt popular this gvt for sure it for the poor.am suprisd why some of you blogers are condming edgar f
orapologaizing and yet you always call for apologies frm leaders why double standads?apology isnyt a sign of cowad insted its a sign of greatness.edgar thats wat gret men dp and contnue being humble and win a lot of support.may God bless u and yor gvt.

  14. Saying”sorry” is the song that all Kachasu drinkers sing to their wives every morning just before they go for another daily re-fill. No sensible alert Zambian will ever trust Edgar Lungu and his PF rascals. The damage done is irrepairable. The lundazi kachasu is more tastey than the one fermented in Chibolya.

  15. The man went to say sorry as an individual for reconciliatory purposes, not that the government was wrong. Anyone advocating for violence be it a priest should face the same music. They could have let him remain in Rwanda had it not been for the catholic church pleading with the government. Do not misconstrue Edgar Lungu’s apology to mean the father was right, because if does repeat the same thing, he will go back for good.

    • In that case, it’s either the reporter misconstrued Edgar’s statements, or Edgar misconstrued his own reason for going to see the priest or it ‘s you misconstruing Edgar for giving an apology instead of accepting one from the priest.

  16. So what next should PF and particularly Edgar Lungu be sorry for? The death of a PF cadre of Monze? The locking up of top leadership of UPND on a trumped murder charge? The lock up of both female and male top MMD leadership in one cell in Kitwe? The brutal assault of a legistative member of Government by a serving government minister? The queuing of Zambians for mealie meal? The failure by the Head of the executive to publicly face the press and address pressing national issues? Government of bleeps and blunders indeed. This apology will have ironical results. Hugely embarrassing. Come on Minister Lungu give us a big break!

  17. Lets be non partisan when making comments. I personally commend him for the move he has taken to apologise. It takes humbleness to apologize.
Zambia is z Christian nation and that what we should encourage for those who wrongs their friends to humble themselves and ask for forgiveness from those they wronged.
Good move Hon Lungu, you have cleared your consciousness and that’s how to live.

  18. There are so many incidents over which this guy should have resigned a long time ago. …in fact it should be “Minister Apologizes” NOT Government. We did not put you in office to be making blatant mistakes and apologizing!

  19. Do these guys even know what they are doing? Surely fire the chap, this cant be a mistake?!!! It was personal which shouldnt be the case, had it been the star father Bwalya accused of those lies, i bet we wouldnt even have heard about them, ACCUSING FINGER INDEED!

  20. The apology is accepted. That is the best thing one can do. The government was misinformed about the priest. The OP failed to do their work properly

    • Then fire them if thats the case, imagine now how many people have ended up in the dungion because of the op,i say investigate the cases these chaps have handled, more people are innocent kanshi, just because of the tittle, surely even those actors in CSI, NCSI know more and can do a better job than your OP, oops!

  21. Too much drinking lutuku ba Edgar, mwamona nomba? Let your boss also stop using side effects of ubwangula at state house to run the country – mad dog type of leadeship will ruin the countyr. Wnayawanya tateke chalo mwe FIPUBA government

  22. Honourable Lungu, it takes a man to eat humble pie and apoogise in that manner. Well done ba Minister. The bloggers condemning you are ashamed that you have apologised and thereforer emptied pre-emptied their malicious thoughts. All they want is to continue condemning government.

  23. Ba Edgar Lungu, mwe ma Bosses, you are in government full of humble people. Welldone my minister, welldone my minister and please pass on this message to my President MCS. He is a man of action. Thank you sirs.

  24. As for me i would only accept minister Lungu’s apology if he can come out in the open and tell the nation how many people he has deported so far. Otherwise many voiceless people have suffered under his pen and paper. Remember until you settle scores with the other voiceless who are not Catholics God will not forgive you and you are just wasting your time.

    Tanda Bantu

  25. the chap looks drunk all the time..lol..am sure you will learn to apply the law accordingly..hahahahaha..he who laughs last..

  26. Excellent guesture honourable lungu and let other ministers emmulate you for no one is always right. God bless you.

  27. It does not matter to me how Mr Lungu’s office looks like. The fact that he apologised for the mistakes that his ministry made should be enough for any sane human being. The decision by the minister to deport the priest was based on wrong information provided to him by his juniors, out there in the field. By the way most work places in the developed world are moving away from the concept of corner office for th MD, followed by smaller offices with varying degress of comfort for the general and line managers, until you reach the “clerk” who sits out there in the open office. Nowadays starting from the MD down to the clerk all have the same amount of office space. We all sit out there in the open. I had to get used to the idea of losing my office but heck I can do my job from anywhere.
