NGO hails Sata for flouting Mutati for UN top job

Share

The Open Society Foundation has commended President Michael Sata and Government for floating the candidacy of MMD Lunte MP Felix Mutati as Secretary General for the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

“We have no doubt that Government’s decision to float Mr. Mutati was informed by his capacity to deliver and not the Party he belongs to. President Sata proved statesmanship when he lobbied foreign governments in China to support Hon. Mutati’s candidature, who is an Opposition MP,” says Foundation leader Sunday Chanda.

Mr. Chanda said his Foundation supports President Sata’s choice because it has no doubt that given the opportunity Mr. Mutati will represent Zambia, Africa and the Developing Countries with an excellent spirit.

“We are certain that Mr. Mutati remains qualified for the UNCTAD Secretary General position, looking at his track record in matters of local, regional and international trade. He remains a humble and humble transformational leader who has served his country with pride,” Mr. Chanda said.

He added, “Zambians fondly remember Mr. Mutati from the AGOA when former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton acknowledged his capacities when he served as Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry. We call on all well-meaning Zambians, political parties, foreign missions and the private sector at regional and international level to give Mr. Mutati’s candidature the support that it deserves.”

Mr. Chanda said Zambia has yet another opportunity to present itself to the international community as a united nation above all pettiness.

  1. i believe in Mr Mutati. so intelligent and humble but very hardworking. i also think politics doent suit this man though intelligent and hard working, he is too humble for Zambian politics.you have our support mr mutati and big up Mr president, president for all Zambians indeed.

  2. Its just because the MP’s in PF are F.O.O.Ls with no brains…. who in PF can can be appointed to that position?

  3. the president is not for is PF only but for all peoples in zambia regardlesss of which party one belongs to…….Sata’s wisdom could not be doubted,His patriot person…..foolish number 3

  4. Only patriotic citizens of this beautiful country can support this.

Well done Mr. president,we are also on your knees to embrace well meaning and compassionate politicians like Brian Chituwo.

GOD BLESS ZAMBIA LET NOT PARTY BLIND LOYALTY DIVIDE THIS COUNTRY.

  5. I appreciate this choice and I have no doubt whatsoever that Mr. Mutati is a capable candidate. One curious observation though, does PF have people capable to manage institutions? Why does the president nearly always choose from the opposition? I think the aim is no more to weaken the opposition, rather it is an acknowledgement that PF has no people with the calibre needed to propel Zambia to greater heights. And is Mr. Sunday Chanda a spokesperson for PF? He is too loud on supporting PF under the disguise of the The Open Society Foundation. If I remember well he had become loud towards 2011 elections supporting MMD. Is he also practising politics of eating like Old Munkombwe?

  6. Mutati will do us proud and we wish him all the very best! @ Heya, this is about Mutati’s capacity to deliver and not whether or not he is MMD. Mutati applied and President Sata’s Government endorsed his candidature.

  7. Well-meaning Civil society organizations must add their weight to Mutati’s candidature. Opposition political parties must also do the same. This is about Zambia. I support Open Society for coming out to support this move. We need others, even those dealing in matters of trade to add their weight to this candidature.

  8. Quite an intelligent way of getting rid of formidable opposition. It’s all good,Mutati is intelligent and too clean for Zed politics but obviously it’s not just about him,am sure he’s seen as someone who is a threat to Nevers Mumba and therefore a threat to PF so best to ensorse him for the UN post so that he’s not active at MMD and that way Sata and PF wiil continue to weaken the opposition parties, that’s just my feeling, hopefully Mutati won’t forget about his dream to become MMD President,he’s better suited than Mumba.

  9. Y’all dont know Felix Mutati, looks are so deceiving, the only qualification is tribe.Am appalled at how y’all giving fake support, and trust me he wont get it. Ask what part he played in big contracts for Rural Electrification and El Sewedy in Ndola. As usual gullible zambians will cheer at anything!

  10. I fear Hon. Felix Mutati may not be selected to the aforementioned position given his weak educational background: a mere ACCA graduate. A more credible candidate for the UNCTAD SG position in my view would have been Professor Mpazi Sinjela — a well reknowned international trade law expert.

  11. What really makes Mutati intelligent? What does he have on his resume? I think he is a nice guy – would do well in the job. But I always hear these accolades of intelligent about him. Somebody give me a lecture.

  12. foolish number 18 he applied and we support him why didn’t you tell you father to apply so that we support him too? think postive kabwa!

  14. Some of u even if u have gone to school on account of being evil u can’t even understand simple matters. Mutati applied .It is not a matter of appointing someone.@enginear u nid deliverance. Just like others here u nid it. Godbless u .

  15. Ba Noah has again demonstrated that he is a statesman. He is a president for all and has the interest of the country/africa when making these decisions.Am so happy that the lunte seat will now be coming to the PF and Felix will do a noble job to be SG.

  16. Good Choice, He will make Zambians proud. EVEN when he was Minister of Trade& Commerce He was good. Well done Mr. President for Talking one language as Zambians.
