Share

Representatives of Political Parties, faith based Organizations, Zambia Police, Anti Corruption Commission (ACC), Human Rights Commission and the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) have resolved that the current constitution making process guarantee and enhance the independence, the powers and the autonomy of the Electoral commission of Zambia.

The resolutions were made yesterday following a consultative forum held in Lusaka organised by the ECZ on peaceful, free and fair elections in the country.

Speaking at a media briefing today, Non Governmental Organizations Coordinating Council (NGOCC) Board Chairperson, Beatrice Grillo, said the stakeholders also agreed that the Commission be granted more powers to enforce the Electoral Act and regulations, coupled with powers to disqualify erring candidates and political parties’ participation in an election for grave violations of electoral laws.

the consultative forum was fruitful despite the Patriotic Front being the only Political Party present that has not signed the agreement and resolutions of the forum

[/pullquote]Ms Grillo says the stakeholders further agreed that religious leaders should facilitate dialogue among the political party leaders to address the current issues of concern which are now affecting the peaceful conduct of election.

She added that they also agreed that the playing field in the electoral process must be leveled and all political parties adhere to the Electoral Code of Conduct.

Ms Grillo said the consultative forum was fruitful despite the Patriotic Front being the only Political Party present that has not signed the agreement and resolutions of the forum.

  1. Typical… Am not surprised that they didn’t sign because they couldn’t get hold of their ailing president to give them a go ahead to sign.

    • @Pa Zed does it matter if one used more words than bitter.? U are such a petty human being, what’s with u and wishing other people ill, what has Sata done to you for him to be hated like this.? Do other people who do not support your leaders also wish them dead.? Remember death can happen to anyone including your favourite politician and even you before it happens to Sata..ask for forgiviness from God

  2. Pa Zed, let us be careful when talking about other people’s health. You seem to show hatred for Sata who is as human as you are. Mukafwa before the one you are calling ailing president. I know you are a bitter person.

    • @ One Vic ….. Bitter is the only word you know in your PF vocabulary at the expense of development. The man thrived over other people’s illness i.e Mazoka, Mwanawasa and most recently Kunda. What makes you think that we should not remind him over his ailments? I bet you gonna go earlier than him because you will be sacrificed yourself.

  3. Pa Zed, i am not PF and will never be one. You are very wrong in your assumption. Its sad your under five will never rule zambia.

  4. @Pa zed. UPND will never ascend to power, and that’s the reason for your hatred and bitterness. It can’t be helped, you see…

    • For God’s sake, you all have misplaced judgements. You don’t even know me to start with neither do you have information that I leave in Zambia.. Bitterness, give that to your MPs who can’t express themselves in parliament. I belong to no party and in my message I did mention Mwanawasa (MMD), Mazoka (UPND) and Kunda (MMD). I don’t understand your thinking to come to a conclusion that am UPND. Please check yourselves before you make unsubstantiated claims. I am a genuine Zambian and I mean well to my mother land.

  5. EVEN YO UNDER5 IS SICK JUST LIKE EVERYBODY IS.ONE DAY IT IS YO UNDER 5 THAT WILL COLLUPSE AND DIE .JUST DEBATE .IT IS NOT SATA’S FAULT THAT YO HH WIL NEVER RULE. WITH THE NEW CONSTITUTION WE SHALL SEE WHO IS WHO.

  6. @ONE VIC and @2201, Kalanga Street —– surely you guys you are not ashamed of yourselves using language like that??? WHO ARE YOU to decide who ascends and does not ascend to power? Uncivilised animals like you still use language like “ruling zambia”… NOBODY EVER rules Zambia. Every 5 years ZAMBIANS kick out political parties and sickly cockroaches that have been abusing their power. Sata is sickly and he has been abusing his power. And in 2016 we will bring him DOWN – whether you like it or not – that is if he will even reach there! In 2016, we will have a new president and a new political party …and who that will be does not depend on what you like or don’t like. So better steal now while Sata is still in power, since you seem to come from a lineage that worships thieves.

  7. HH will one day be president…whether cockroaches like it or not. It is just a matter of time. Zonda uzalema. You can go into self-imposed exile if you don’t like HH when he wins in 2016. Those talking about the new constitution are even joking: 50+1 is the best thing that came to Zambia since colonialism left. Tiza kuonani manje. The only president to ever get more than 50% votes in this country was FJT CHILUBA and for him to get those votes almost all the provinces voted for him because EVERYBODY wanted to see Kaunda out. That time is now gone. The truth is it will now be a war of brains to work out maths, not a war of self-pride. If you isolate yourselves as a province, your population won’t matter your tribal candidate will not win. TIYENI TIONE KAILI!!! New Constitution ibwela!

    • Well said and I salute you. How I wish there was a close in the constitution that all aspiring presidents must be subjected to live TV debates. This will enable Zambians have informed decisions. The populace will be able to deduce who has brains to articulate things to lead the nation. No offence please to PF kaponyas. Debate with substance and not insults. By the way, I belong to Zambia Free of Corruption Party (ZFCP).

  8. Those are tonga bulls for, always singing wisdom, being in diaspora, hh, upnd. once a tonga bull peeps into success, the whole world will be disturbed by noise. imagine tonga bull seeing the england bridge open up then try so hard to explaind to a british
