Nothing wrong with male midwives – Kapata

Community Development, Mother and Child Health Deputy Minister says male midwives work better than the females because they are available at any given time.

Ms Kapata says the input of the male midwifery and that of a female one is different.

She was reacting to reports by Mwandi MMD Member of Parliament Michael Kaingu’s call for government to do away with male midwives.

The Deputy Minister noted that female midwives go on maternity leave posing a shortage in hospital and clinics in the country while male midwives don’t go for maternity.

Ms Kapata said that Mr Kaingu was taking the country backwards by suggesting that government should do away with male midwives.

She said there was no logic in Mr Kaingu’s argument it was culturally wrong for government to allow male birth attendants, because there were male doctors world over who were attending to both genders.

“We have male doctors in this country does it mean he cannot attend to a woman patient or one who is giving birth?” she asked.

Ms Kapata said the country is currently experiencing a shortage of human resource and the government has trained so many midwives who seem to be stable and remained in the country to serve.

Yesterday, Mr Kaingu was quoted in the Post Newspapers saying government should do away with male midwives.

  1. Mr Kaingu’s statement is wrong and ill-considered on sooooo many levels it’s laughable.
Shall we now exclude males from specializing in mid-wifery, even if that’s their career of choice? Maybe we should exclude women from the police force too, since males are physically stronger? And of course, no male gynaecologists either, or male cooks even?

And this Guy is an MP???

    • Lame analogy! Policewomen will never be required to touch your genitals – anywhere in the world. PoliceMEN frisk men and Female Police officers frisk ladies. Stop defending perverts. Midwifery is not a job for normal men.

    • And this is the same man who was supporting Dora about her middle finger antic in parliament that he saw nothing wrong culturally.

    • Kavundula, you can not compare a law enforcement situation with a medical situation. Health is more important to the immediate well-being of an individual. As such, I agree that female cops should frisk women and male cops should frisk men, but when it comes to medicare, whoever is available must be allowed to attend to someone’s health.

  2. its not right for men to be seeing other pipo’s wives genitals. Kaingu may ve all these issues from his daughters mischief but on this one he is right. Besides medical personnel at UTH are pathetically low on ethics.

    • Ba Tony Blair, ninsaje izo. Bututu. Aren’t these just human parts? If another man sees it while saving your wife’s life, does he take it home with him? Kulani bamudala.

  3. IWE MUDALA YOU ARE BACKWARDS NO WONDER YOUR DAUGHTER HAS NO MANNERS, WHAT’S GOOD TO HELP DELIVER A BABY OR TO SHOW YOUR PRIVATE PARTS TO THE CHRISTIAN NATION MOTHER ZAMBIA AND THE WORLD AT LARGE, IF I WERE YOU I WOULD NOT BE TALKING IN PUBLIC, WHY DIDN’T SAY ALL THAT WHILE YO WERE IN POWER (MMD)? DON’T WAIST OUR TIME, SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!

  4. Most likely the woman was impregnated by a man and numerous gynecologists out there are men, what’s the big deal about male midwifes?

  5. Kaingu is just an immoral and dirty minded man who should be entertained. A person who needs help cannot choose who should attend to them. Midwives are just professionals doing their work and they should be commended and encouraged especially when we have a shortage of them in the country. No wander the childbirth mortality rate is so high in the country because of such low thinking leaders. Kaingu should stop being dirty minded period!

  6. Kaingu is dull. I was just being worked on by girls half my age on my rectum and scrotum. It is medicine. It cannot have gender issues. Know medicine and do it. What is really wrong with being naked anywhere. Cloths are artificial, the science of the body is beneath.

  7. 1st its just yucky to discuss such.
2nd my wife is beautiful and holy, I will never never ever allow any male to touch her, even in an emergency.
Anyway, males also choose whom to touch, how can a man touch Ba Mrs. Inonge with due respect, but yes males can check Jean Kapata or Sylvia Masebo.

  8. MEN ARE BEEN JEALOUS OF THEIR WIVES. ALL MY CHILDREN WERE BORN BEING ASSISTED BY MALE DOCTORS…..SO. GO TO UTH YOUR WIVES ARE MORE COMFORTABLE WITH MALE DOCTORS THAN FEMALE ONES OR WHO EVER BECAUSE MEN DON’T GOSPEL.
MOST OF THOSE WOMEN THEY GO TO MALE DOCTORS. MR. KAINGU SECOND WIFE NIKAPOPO…..HE CAN NOT IMAGINE A MAN TOUCHING HER????????

    • Italian if a nurse was found gossipping about what s/he saw on a patient that is the end of his or her job.

  9. but i think lots of girls are busy touching penises at Male circumcision centres so whats the big deal with male midwives?

  10. Ya its not good to have Male gynecologists or indeed male mid-wives. How on earth can we have a male who is a wife? Midwives and gynecologists must be women. Check out the muslims they will never allow their women to be touched by male gynecologists or male midwive. Some gynecologists after seeing they want….Only a husband should see wifes nakedness – period. Yes for Hules/prostitutes it is ok to be seen by many men lol………….

  11. Kaingu is backward. May be he gets horny each time he sees a woman so he cant imagine other men focussing only on the job at hand. The medical profession has strict ethical codes that are incorporated in the law. Male doctors do operate on females so why cant a male nurse be someone’s midwife? Most women I ve spoken to say they prefer male midwives.
