DEFENCE minister Geoffrey Mwamba has wondered why some media institutions were making an issue out of his comments on differences among couples and want to portray him as though he has differences with his wife.
Speaking in Kasama when he officially handed over a convert he and is family personally built worth KR 498 000 for the Kasama diocese at St. Johns parish, Mr Mwamba said that differences in home were a reality and that he will never leave his wife.
“Differences are inevitable in home, once a while people “pinch” each other or differ in homes and this is reality. I have been married to my wife Chama for 36 years and I will never laeve her,” Mr Mwamba.
Mr Mwamba appealed to the church and the people of his constituency to pray for him for wisdom as he serves in Government and represents them as Member of Parliament. He further urged them not to hesitate to advise him whenever he is wrong.
“My family and I decided build this house for the church, because Kasama is our home and we feel obliged as a family to do so, I ask you to pray for me for wisdom. You are the people that made me what I am today, if I don’t respect you then am nobody ” Mr Mwamba said.
The minister also donated KR 100, 000 to Kasama dioceses for archbishop Ignatius Chama to use to help the vulnerable.
The minister also gave KR10, 000 each to the four priests that were ordained on Saturday to help them settle down to their various parishes they have been posted to.
And Bishop Chama thanked Mr Mwamba for assistance he had rendered to build the convent for sister of the young child Jesus Christ after the old convert was burnt last year in April.
He urged the congregates and the people in general to imitate Mr Mwamba’s spirit of giving.

Its true. You don’t need education to make it big. Compare him with Nkandu Luo and her degrees, what hers she got to show for her education? Tried Tasintha and failed until she just had to climb on her sister’s back to go back to parliament. Demoted from her cabinet position to a smaller ministry- threatened to resign but what is she going to eat. But if you are able to, why not get some education.
There is a huge difference between education and schooling. We have more schooled people running around with papers than we have educated ones. Countless evidence has already been documented. If you examine GBM he may just be one of the many qualifiers of that thesis. The classroom is not the only place for education – but it has brought out a lot of schooled failures.
Let him collapse with cardiac arrest and see if he’ll be treated by illiterates! Mwe mbushimwe, don’t console yourselves for poor academic success.
This open willingness by PF leaders to dispense cash openly should be a source of worry. Not long ago Kabimba NMP, SC was ‘donating’ to a Church in Feira. Yesterday the ‘political centurion’ Daniel Munkombwe NMP was giving cash in Kazungula. For GBM, I might understand because he’s said to be wealthy, but Munkombwe and Kabimba? Isn’t this slush fund reminiscent of the Chiluba days coming back? Its not exactly honorable and respectful to wave wads of cash at people and begin to “folesha” like though its “katapa”. Mobutu did it and it didn’t earn him a good reputation. Take meaningful development to the people. Fund education, health and local Government appropriately. Not giving cheap cash in such a cheap and undignified manner.
If giving to the church is not meaningful, what is? Well done GBM. Some people are just haters!
Am sure HH and his supporters are chocking with bitterness by this gesture GBM has portrayed, I like GBM is so pride of where he comes from Kasama, he believes in helping people, unlike some one we know with billions cant even build a school where he come from down south. Ba Mwamba don’t make yourself spokesperson of other marriages. The truth is that differences in marriage are neither inevitable nor necessary, but their absence can not be guaranteed. And when they do occur, boxing is definately not the way to settle them.
Have things changed in the Catholic church? Are Catholic programmers not funded by the Vatican? I think Mwamba’s “donations” are actually bribes.
no sir @ wanu ngwee, the catholic church is so ‘catholic’, meaning ‘universal’, that means universally funded, even you can contribute to the running of the Holy Catholic church, noone can own it or corrupt it, impossible, not even the bishop or pope can corrupt the church of Jesus Christ. GBM is just one of the flock donating to the congregation to which he belongs; giving 10% of his earnings back to God-tithe.
The Vatican stopped heavy funding wayback. This year the church’s theme is self-sustainabiliy for self propagation of the church in Zambia. While the donation is welcome, I smell a rat too!

Beating a woman because of these differences, however, is a very different matter and grossly inappropriate for an “honourable” minister to JUSTIFY gender based violence in any shape or form! What kind of “national leader” is that? I doubt GBM can actually put his foot in his mouth, but he sure is doing a persistent job of trying!

Well said sir.This issue is what is called in philosophy as culture relativity.In his culture and mind the actions are okay, but for other people with influences and backgrounds from other cultures it is very wrong.Hence both blaming him and those supporting him are right.It is just the angle they are looking at the issue that is different.

@Bloggers , please lets give credit where its due: GBM has done a great Job, few rich people are this generous, Most churches Catholics, UCZ and Pentecostals are running to this man for help,Churches do not have donor funds or govt funds, i find this gesture touching to say the least.What has Kabimba done, Mmembe is busy trying to protect his 14Bn DBZ saga-selfish.
