PRESIDENT Michael Sata on Wednesday night arrived in Yokohama in Japan ahead of the fifth Tokyo International Conference for Africa Development (TICAD V) meeting which starts this weekend.

Mr Sata who was accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Effron Zulu and some other senior government officials arrived here at Haneda International Airport and shortly proceeded to the Yokohama Royal Park Hotel where he is lodging.

Several meetings have been lined up here for Mr Sata aside from the TICAD meeting, which kick-starts on Saturday and ends on Monday next week, to fully utilise the President’s visit.

Zambia’s Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Japan Mwelwa Chibesakunda said about 41 other heads of state and government have confirmed attending the high-level meeting spearheaded by the government Japan.

He said President Sata is expected to lead the Zambian delegation into various bilateral and other meetings bordering mainly on investment promotion to fully take advantage of the President’s visit here.

Among the important meetings will be one with officials from the Japanese Railways, the firm running one of the best railway networks in the world.

He said the Presidential delegation would also meet other potential investors in various sectors with a view to wooing them to go Zambia to help develop the peace haven of southern Africa.

TICAD was established to promote high-level policy dialogue between African leaders and development partners including Japan.

  1. “Zambia’s Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Japan Mwelwa Chibesakunda” – Uhh, what position title is that nobantu? What is he doing to deserve any title different from others? Just wondering!

    • For your information ALL Ambassadors accredited to any particular country are titled as Ambassadors “Extraordinary and Pleinpotentiary”…before blogging senslessly get your facts right.

    • I am surprised at your ignorance. These are simple things which you should know. No wonder you voted PF in govt.

    • jOSeph Phiri and rep you arrogant snootys Just give KBM the information he lacks. He is wondering and therefore asking for education. If teachers acted like you nobody would learn anything.

    • No no let him be there, we are always better off with President E.Lungu. Like today ni Friday-njikata, we are looking forward to drink nama ministers. Deputy-ministers, like Masumba where drinking at Independence stadium on thursday, while inspecting it.
      We are freeeeee without Sata!!

  2. My theory which works is to spend more time working as a people. We need to spend more time sweating on productive stuff.. Going around to Seoul, Tokyo, blah blah wont help in anyway. We need to inculcate a culture of hard work within our country first. We have the natural resources, the meetings we keep attending in these foreign countries should be held in Solwezi or Lusaka. They need our resources.

  3. aaaAAA…This when he is arriving in japan? all this time he has been in the `air` travelling to japan? three days ago he was spot in dubai,,,,,presido…hahahahahhahah

  4. I think he just arrived in Japan -why has there been blackout on the presidents whereabouts since Tuesday? Today is Friday why are we been told that he arrived on Wednesday. Why didn’t his secretary send us a message that our President had landed safely the same night he did-just saying

    • The president’s movements whose details are blacked out can only mean that there are lots of ‘confidential’ dealings going on which are kept out of public scrutiny.

    • LOL how can they be blacked out when he is using a commercial airline? Its just laziness of the part of our journalists.

  5. Why was there so much secrecy about Sata’s departure for Japan, did he come back to Zambia after his Addis trip or simply connected to Dubai, how many days was he in transit, why did our Cairo based ambassador had to spend tax payers money to meet Sata in Dubai? As a public figure and national asset, the nation deserves to know the bwana’s movement(s).

  6. Do some bloggers just read the title of the article and comment on it without reading the actual article? It clearly says the man arrived in Japan on Wednesday in the first sentence and yet you are still questioning when he arrived.

    • Some people may be receiving some money just to post negative comments, without thinking I might add, to try and put a very negative spin on whatever is happening in Zambia. Really sad!
