Power fans riot, demand Chambeshi leaves

Arthur Davies Stadium erupted into its worst riots in the clubs history after Power Dynamos lost 1-0 to visiting Green Buffaloes.

The Power fans prime target was coach Beston Chambeshi who has failed to lift the teams fortunes after last season’s failure to defending the league and Barclays Cup.

“We want change! We want change! and “We want (Fordson )Kabole!” rung around Power’s dressing room where Power and Chambeshi were holed up while Buffaloes and their coach Patrick Phiri safely made their way out of Arthur Davies and were applauded by the angry fans.

“Uleya elyo weka bwelako kuno (Go and never return)!” one fan shouted.

Power fans were later pushed back from the stadium by riot police before replying with stones and bottles forcing police to retreat briefly.

Police later replied with tear gas and fought a mini running battle with fans while officials and football fans ducked for safety inside the Arthur Davies bar and stadium offices.

“I have been a Power supporter for the last 30 years and this is the first time I have ever seen such a scene here,” said one Power fan.

Ex-Power defender Zifa Nkhoma was also manhandled by police who mistook him for one of the rioter but was saved by officials and onlookers from being bundled into a police van.

Chambeshi dumped his car at the stadium so too did his players who were also forced to abandon their brand new luxury team bus and left the stadium in their old Rosa mini bus under heavy police escort.

Meanwhile, Power were sucker punched by Buffaloes after striker Percy Bilyoti slipped the ball through goalkeeper Joshua Titima’s legs in the 87th minute.

  1. Double tragedy, Titima allowed the goal. Renard will drop him again. Search for a goalkeeper for next week continues.

  2. Power fans are the ones who lost. They will no be sanctioned as their team may face charges because of their misconduct and violence.

    • Meant to say ‘They will now be censured…” and not “sanctioned”.

  3. Peoples emotions are running high, I have a strong feeling this has been compounded by the current state of affairs in the country. Threat of retrenchments in the mine, ever increasing commodity prices and political intolerance. The mood isn’t right at all, we need a reprieve.

    • Ba drake think rationally! How is this even related to politics and national affairs. Holiganism is related to football. KALAMPA! on the rise.

    • Straight on Drake….. Everywhere is PF mania. Bachitobaula chi Zambia

  4. Quotation: “Meanwhile, Power were sucker punched by Buffaloes after striker Percy Bilyoti slipped the ball through goalkeeper Joshua Titima’s legs in the 87th minute”.

And this is the goalkeeper, Renard has invited to the team against Lesotho??? Yakosa iyii.

  5. This violence against coaches is becoming absurd. Imwe bakaponya, why did you not riot when he gave us the league last year. No wonder people are resorting to watching UEFA. why can’t you accept inshiku tashichelamumo because Nkana even without having any team member in the national team, whipped the so called Zambia national team. Amano yakubuzakile muleke pantu bakesala ichibansa when it has been repaired. If you want to have the players fired, and I hope you will play, go ahead because CEC is the only mining company that has helped its players so much.

  6. i have been a Power dynamos’ fan since the early 80s never felt like that.the fans were right to be have lyk that.idont regret it in any way.those who are not part of Power family will never understand and infact we have nt invited their opinion on this, its a family matter for power Dynamos

  7. As a Power Dynamos supporter since the 80s, I feel agonised and embarrassed that such an ugly thing happened at Arthur Davies stadium. I call upon all stake holders, that is, the club executive, supporters executive and the technical bench to sit and find an amicable solution to the team’s inconsistent performance. Yes, we are all angry because it is not in our tradition to lose games in this manner. But surely, throwing stones and lynching the coach can never bring us back to our glorious days.

  8. The truth is Power fans can’t stomach the fact that across the road, the big boys are doing great again. They can’t bare to accept that this city is RED again as it was in the beginning. Now they are taking it out on one of our greatest players ever. Quicksilver will always remain a Red Legend. You can stone him but his blood will always remain RED & you will never take away the gold he gave you last season. Come back home to Zion “ama Be” & leave that Babylon. Remember boys, we rule this city! That’s why it shall always be known as “pa Nkana”!
    FACT!

  9. @ Lufwi Nyemba walasa! Ama Be Quick silver is our son. No matter where he goes his heart belongs pa Chilata. Aba Red aba bola.
