National Restoration Party (NAREP) leader Elias Chipimo Junior has said that had the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) listened to the advice of his party, they would have delivered the constitution on time.

Mr Chipimo said that when the PF announced that they will be able to produce the constitution within 90 days, NAREP had offered the ruling party viable advice which was ignored.

He said that it was not strange that the PF have failed to fulfill most of their promises because they did not want to consider workable ideas from both the opposition and stakeholders on how best the constitution can be handled.

Mr Chipimo added that PF still continues to ignore many calls from various stakeholders pertaining to the roadmap of the constitution making process.

Mr. Chipimo further added that there is no doubt that the PF cannot deliver a people driven constitution.

He said that the failure by the PF to deliver the constitution on time is making the people to lose faith and trust in them.

Mr Chipimo said that Zambians feel their values and opinions are not considered with regards the constitution making process.

The National Restoration party leader has since appealed to the Patriotic Front administration to consider advise from all relevant stakeholders to avoid misleading the nation.

    • The only way you can get the idio.ts on the constitution committee to finish the job on time is by insentivising finishing on time. Right now they are given monthly allowances for sitting on the committee, so to prolong their reception of funds it is natural for them to keep extending this process. I personally don’t believe folk should be paid for this exercise but since we are already paying, I would suggest not paying these guys until and unless they finish the exercise within the next 2 weeks for example.

  1. Your thoughts on the recent intimidation of opponents by PF Elias? I think that NAREP is in danger of being considered a party of intellect, out of touch with the common people.

You gotta cover all bases Elias, including Kaponyas. Get someone who can be a mouth piece for you with ordinary folk whose concerns are more basic than a people-driven constitution. For example, mealie meal prices, unemployment, accidents, price of petrol, lack of police integrity, clean water, medical facilities, ARVs…….

(Disclaimer: I am in no way discounting the importance of timeliness in delivering a people-driven constitution)
