Mighty’s Division One future bleak

Share

Mighty Mufulira Wanderers are in serious danger of demotion from Division One North after a litany of poor results this season.

Wanderers currently lie fourth from the bottom of the 18-team Division One North table on 13 points.

The legendary club has recorded only two wins after a round of 14 matches and trace their last win to 2 June when they beat Prison Leopards 1-0.

Wanderers dropped into 15th place on Sunday after losing 2-1 to Kalewa at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe.

The Shinde outfit are now 16 points behind league leaders National Assembly, who sits on 29 points following Sunday’s 3-1 win over Nkwiza in Kitwe.

Wanderers are further 14 points below their archrivals Mufulira Blackpool, who are third on the table with 27 points.

This is arguably Mighty’s worst start to the Division One campaign.

Wanderers first suffered demotion in 2002 before briefing making a return to the Super Division for one season in 2005 and have never return since.

  1. Cabipa! Like they did to Nkana (who are now blessed to have come out of their doldrums), the fate and fault of Wanderers’ predicament lies squarely on their sponsors, is it Fi Mopani? ZCCM paid attention to these clubs and took care of the players. Unless some goodwill is urgently done, we will never hear about Wanderers again. Even though they are my rivals (as a Nkana fan), it is unacceptable to see them go into oblivion.

  2. It pains me to see what Mighty Mufulira Wanderers is going through. This could be the beginning of the end for Wanderers if nothing is done. This would be sad to Zambian football as teams like Wanderers, Nkana, Power have contributed a lot to the development of Zambian football. Mind you wanderers is one the most supported club in Zambia. Ba Mopani, ba Kalusha, Ba Charles Musonda na ba Johnstone Bwalya twafweni twapapata!

  3. I have been following Mighty since the days of Frederick Kashimoto, ashious Melu, Kennedy Chola, Efford Chabala. Then we had Paul Chella (Goalpoacher), Francis “Diego” Chisenga, Harrison Chongo, Allarn Kamwanga, David Mutale. I also remember Nelson Musumali, Morgan Chanda, Nelson “Haile” Banda, Philimon Chisala, Abraham Lungu, George Chicken Lwandamina, Bilton Musonda, Alex Musungu, Martin Chola, Henry Mwape, Peter Chilufya, Charles Bwalya, Justin Kunda, Boas Chibwe, Dears Kankuta to mention but a few. Today I don’t know a single player in Wanderers. What is really happening pa Shinde?

    • From my young age I watched Mighty during the times of Zoom, The Nkole brothers (Patrick, Edward & Abraham) Ackim Musenge, Dickson Makwaza, Evans Katebe, Fred Kashimoto, Thomas Bwalya, Bernard chanda (moved to Nkana) Bruno chibinde, brines Mulenga, Gibson Zulu, Osward Chishala… wow that was Mighty iwina chungulo.

Sport on the copperbelt like the province itself is now a shell of its glorious past. what a shame for the country

  4. What is your best ever Mufulira Wanderers 11? Mine is Efford Chabala, George Lwandamina, Morgan Chanda, Akim Musenge, Ashious Melu, Frederick Kashimoto, Charles Musonda, Johnstone Bwalya, Kalusha Bwalya, Samuel Zoom Ndlouvu and Paul Chellah. What’s your comment?

    • Instead of Paul Chellah I would have Robertson Zulu. He is the only man who gave Ucar Chitalu a run for his money. In one season the guy scored 69 goals. Willie Mukwasa would replace Morgan Chanda

  5. What do you ex
pet from a team with un licenced coaches? Both coaches shuns FAZ,s D, C and B licences . There are new developments in a game of football nomba.
Mighty is a well sponsored big titiled team.
Also its like there is too much control and pressure from their supporters club.
I strongly believe that if things put to order, the team will do beta in the remaining 20 games. Lets just contiue giving them support. For the team to get 1 season home matches ban is ourselves to blame( supporters)
Lets send our coaches to these coaching clinics. Davison Mtonga,s scholl is open at Football House.

  6. Katwishi But Kalusha and Charlie should have bought the team a long time ago if they knew business. This is a sleeping brand which if ressurrected can give you plenty of returns

  7. Am greatly humbled to learn that people still appreciate what I gave to Mighty Mufulira Wanderers as a player before moving on to another great team – Nkana Football Club – where I really blossomed as a player.

Its an honour to have played for two great Clubs in this country and I wish both Mighty Mufulira Wanderers and Nkana Football Club success in their endevours.
