Sunzu reports back to work at Mazembe

Share

Stopilla Sunzu has officially reported back to work TP Mazembe.

Sunzu and Mazembe have been bogged down in after a half-a-year deadlock over his future at the DR Congo club following stronger overtures from English clubs.

“Sunzu is back to Mazembe,” Mazembe president Moses Katumbi said on the clubs official website.

“He has for the moment given up his desire to play in Europe.

“His intention is to finish his contract with us that still binds him for three years.”

Mazembe have also stated that they will now register Sunzu for their 2013 CAF Confederation Cup Group B campaign outing that begins on July 19.

Mazembe face Entente Setif of Tunisia away in their first leg game in a fortnights time.

Other teams in Group B is the Moroccan club FUS Rabat and CAB of Tunisia.

  1. Poor guy…that’s what happens when you put your fate in the hands of the wrong people. He should be at a club that will develop his abilities even more. At some point for a player like him, it ceases to be about money. He has made enough to last him a lifetime if invested properly of course. TP has nothing better to offer him in terms of football. How old will he be laterally, 3 years from now??

  2. Katumbi is just finishing the guy, he has no interest in his football career. How old is he going to be 3 years from now? Any way am wishing you all the best my bro Sunzu

  3. Let him just stay in Congo. He is earning good money and has game time why should he risk his career in euro?

  4. Kekekeke….“He have for the moment given up his desire to play in Europe” Ba LT please just start producing vernacular articles, you are cracking our ribs.

  5. There are no surprises here, this is what happens when you dance with the devil. Where is his RSA based agent? Where are the corrupt self-serving empty suits at Football House? They all wanted to make a quick buck by packaging him as a free transfer but couldn’t have their way hence they have abandoned him…..he is lucky Moses Katumbi didn’t take up this matter with FIFA or else it would have been curtains for his career.
Sadly this is what is going to happen at to our Zambian football under these corrupt empty suits we will not go ANYWHERE.

    Wake up people!!

  6. This article by Matthew Nash from HITC Sport (hereisthecity.com) best sums up this Sunzu debacle –

He was a free agent now he is worth £4 million and Sunderland have joined the race for the 23-year-old Zambia international. Is he even worth all the hassle?
The confusion over this saga is waging on as one of Africa’s top talents continues to be linked with a move away from the club.
Originally Stoppila Sunzu was all set to sign for Arsenal but that deal fell by the wayside and then it was reported that a move to Reading was a done deal; until that collapsed as well.
Now Sunderland have had their name thrown into the mixer while Arsenal appear to be favourites to sign him once again.

    So what is going on?

  7. The confusion stems around his agents and representatives who appear to have not been doing a very good job of representing their client’s best interests. They had reportedly informed the Zambia international, and any interested suitors, that his contract at current club TP Mazembe was invalid therefore he was eligible to leave on a free transfer.
In fact the DR Congo club, one of the richest football establishments in African football, are requesting a fee of £4 million as his contract is more than legally binding, a fact confirmed by Mazembe’s club president Moise Katumbi in an interview with the BBC last week:

  8. “The matter has been resolved after we went through the contract with everyone and the player admitted his contract was still valid. The problem is that his handlers have been lying to him so that he rebels against us. We suspect they wanted to get all his transfer fees by declaring him a free agent. TP Mazembe is a professional club and we will never stand in the way of our players as long as the right procedure is followed.”
However that does not mean the club do not want to sell Sunzu. He has not been registered for the teams African Champions League campaign as they seek to let him complete a dream move to Europe; but they want £4 million for him.
Based on the evidence at the African Nations cup of 2012, where Zambia were successful, he might have been worth a punt but after

  9. seeing him in action again this winter you would have to say he is just not worth the risk at £4 million.
When you consider that Nigeria centre-back Godfrey Oboabona had a much more impressive tournament and is likely to cost a lot less from Nigerian outfit Sunshine Stars you would have to wonder where the logic is in spending £4 million worth of cash on a 23-year-old who looks ordinary at best and has yet to play European football.
Now it has come to light that he is not a free agent until 2015 I would not expect to see Sunzu in the Premier League any time soon.

  10. We need to look at a number of issues to address this impasse namely;
*how does it happen that the duration of contracts are only known by the club owners and not the player.
*why is it that 90% of our players are illiterate and lack basics.
*Who is supposed to look into player transfer affairs and how are players transfers handled in the ZPL do we have agents or its clubs that broker the deals.
*why do we only look at the players talents on the field and not also their life skills off the pitch before and after their playing career.
*are our administrators well vested in football affairs.

    Solutions
-the contracts that i have signed i have always demanded a copy and when discussing terms i am obliged not to accept every term and condition.we herd the man that sunzu will be their…

  11. will be their for the next 3 years in a bragging way he is stone cold gangster.
-our academies should work with schools so that our players attain basic education.
-Faz needs to strengthen the players welfare committees so that they hold workshops with administrators on topics such as the buying and selling of players, from the look of things only those with a more solid education background have fared well even when perusing professional careers abroad.
-Stakeholders need not be selfish and only focus on the footballing side only as i think a better IQ yeilds more and brings more purpose to the game.
-It is kind of impossible for new brains to enter club football administration, i was saddened by the mighty wanderers story, their is need for professionals to manage different aspects…

  12. of the game at club level.

lastly i hope the enactment of the rule that clubs should register with pacra is a move in the right direction
