President Michael Sata has suspended Copperbelt Police Commissioner Mary Tembo with immediate effect.

This is according to a statement released by Home Affairs Minister Edgar Lungu.Ms Tembo is alleged to have received a Toyota corolla worth K15 000 from a named mining company for her personal use without declaring it to her superiors.

Mr. Lungu said in view of allegations of corruption levelled against Ms. Tembo,President Sata has with immediate effect suspended her from exercising the powers and functions of her office.

Mr. Lungu said Ms Tembo cannot continue carrying out her duties because the alleged act of converting a motor vehicle or indeed any property donated by well-wishers to personal use without declaring that property to superiors contradicts the code of ethics for the public service.

He said the code of ethics for the public service states that a public service employee shall not accept gifts, rewards or hospitality or receive benefits of any kind from any person or organisation which might compromise or reasonably be seen to compromise one’s personal judgment or integrity.

He said the matter has since been handed over to the Anti-Corruption Commission for investigations.

Mr. Lungu added that President Sata has re-deployed Lusaka Province commissioner, Ms Joyce Kasosa to act during the investigations.

  1. Awesome!!! Way to go king Cobra. The last thing we want are corrupt and compromised cops.I just like how you don’t Condon incompetence and abuse of office.Seleni tubombeko !!

    • You must be Sunday Chanda…..

At some point I used to take you seriously you poor bemba man.

      Come 4 sum cash….. LOL!

    • President Sata deserves to be commended for this rare action. But Mr.President, you have next to you a DPP who ISSUED a nolle to Rajah Mahtan who was appearing in court for some cases against him and in return,Mahtan discontinued a case against Mutembo Nchito. This is a typical case of scratch my back and I scratch yours. In ACC LANGUAGE,it is called CORRUPTION.Surely, why has Mutembo Nchito been spared the Presidential axe to visit him after all,his criminal actions are more grievous than Madam Mary Tembo’s Corolla gift?

    • @Harry
ati “ president Sata deserves to be commended for this rare action“ there is nothing rare about that action,,, thats a small action which is negligible ,, thats like firing a gardener foreman it does not make news!!!

He must fire chikopa, nchito, kabimba for gross incompetence and wrong legal advise… then he will be commended

    • Ndobo, firing those guys would mean firing “himself” for according to some tales, he drives the wheel they pretend to have their hands on.
Poor Mary Tembo how could she get so carried away? i wonder what next she will do, hope she will get her vacation and pesion funds.

    • The President has just “seized an opportunity” to make a name for himself. This is after the ZambianWatched correctly EXPOSED corruption in PF, after INNOCENT intelligence officers were victimised. These officers, supposedly went to where their voices could be heard – the ZWD of course. And it still bothers me why the minister of Home Affairs should “wait” for the president to “allow” him/her to fire a corrupt officer!! I m happy we stilll have gallant servants of the soil who can stand up to this nonsense

    • @Mushota
Then get off this site since we here are Zambians. Coincidentally, we can’t stand you!

  2. King Cobra need also to fire June Kabimba who is making PF dirty by publicly pronouncing a one party state and when one says my role is to win a lot of people from opposition to cross over to ruling such that we have 100% parliamentary seats. June sounds be retrogressive state counsel and I hear he has never won a case in court and it is a pitty even me a lay man can not think like that of the Minister of justice. Can we debate. Is it right to say what he said on movie TV as a minister of justice? Is it true that what he showed last time was true and genuine leadership of his kind?

    • He also said that their is no morality in politics, we deserve a morally right justice minister, We expect high morals to be exhibited from our leaders, not the other way round. I agree with you 100%, this is a democracy, to suggest that the ruling party should have 100% parliamentary seats is retrogressive, he is an enemy of democracy, if Winter is not checked he is making the pf look very evil and dirty. In fact when you listen to his utterances you hate the pf.

  3. Now that Mary Tembo has found herself on the otherside of the law, she will understand why it is important to allow opposition political parties to assemble. When she was comanding officer, she always cooked up excuses to deter people from assembling. She was Sata’s praise singer. Now we shall see who will stand by her side because she burnt all the bridges. This is a very good lesson. If you are in public office always remember to do the right thing. Do not compromise your professionalism just for your own sake because the power is in the hands of the same people you oppress. Right now we are laughing at you Mary Tembo because you allowed yourself to be used as an extension of the oppressive regime headed by Sata. You hurt a lot of people in order to please Sata even when it was illegal.

    • Grapevine has it that Mary Tembo will join Mpombo’s newly formed party as defence/security spokes person!

  4. forward with zwd, this is their revalation.
next is charity katanga…then libongani and finally
    solomon jere.
From thr he will move on to fire kabimba, chibesakunda
masebo, then he will stop listening to mmembe, nchito and matibini.

  5. let justice prevail.

officers of govt and particularly those in law enforcement should be above board and behave as expected

  6. So this was Ms Tembo’s dream Car?

Efilyako Hummer H2 or H3. I’m not condoning corruption but Napapafye bane….

    • She could have much bigger things than that, but cleaning must start from somewhere. These are some of the people denting the name of cops in Zambia. Well I served in this service before and I know bakulu bakulu can manipulate issues at times and how bribes can flow. It only takes principled people of my calibre to ran away if you can’t win them .Right now am in a long battle with my friend in the USA who thinks cops are uneducated bunch, it has been so interesting to hear all sorts of out pouring about cops I inclusive from this friend of mine in athletics. It is a band wagon or rather it used to be, circumstances and strategies differ in life.

  7. Similarly bwana minister, Police officers must not hitch lifts with members of the public. This a kind of hospitality offered to them by members of the public.

Enable your officers to own personal cars and provide adequate vehicles for officers to use while on duty.

    • Otherwise, a welcome move.

We now appeal to His Excellency to sort out the mess that Kabimba is in the Party and Government.

    • You raise an interesting post right there….this has something to do with the “Post” trucks laden with stolen copper on CB which were impounded ZP and Sata is merely following orders from his master.

  8. In all fairness why shld the president be chasing individuals, acc shld lead such , the president is for big national issues, if u r that dull just learn from Obama how he conducts business u dafty nation.

    • You people the president is the commander in chief, he appoints and fires and is leading the fight against corruption.

  9. This is not the job of the president. where is IG POLICE, SHE IS SLEEPING AND THE PRESIDENT IS WORKING FOR HER. LIBONGANI WAKE UP AND DO YOUR WORK, PLEASE INSTIL DISCIPLINE IN THE POLICE FORCE

    • In fact this lady should be promoted for impounding those Post trucks which had stolen copper….as usual if you mess with Fred M’membe he will use his tool at State house and sort you out!!

  10. The other day it was foreign Affairs minister from the East ( Lungu ) now it is another from the east Tembo. Chimbuya ici bane. Refuse Ms Tembo chimbuya mulecita na ba Sata

  11. Let me get this straight: “donated corrola to help Ms Tembo on transport” as big as she was, she had no police car? she had a police car the cimangeni! but if it true she had no car, just drop her, because in private car it was easy to trace jerabos.

    • ACC should also investigate corruption, thieving going at ministry of labour. they discover so many things includes flower bouquet costing k30,000. DEC, POLICE AND ACC- move in and you will be shocked.

  12. The danger of eating using both ‘hands’, one hand for fighting corruption while the other hand for promoting corruption, but when caught both hands are burnt in boiling cooking oil. To suspend such pipo to pave way for ACC investigations is a just cause, but to selectively do so is wrong, ‘why wasn’t Wynter, GBMx2, etc suspended at the time they were suspects of huge corruption deals. Applying the law with double standards is wrong.
A woman who is suspected of a Corolla deal ( K15,000.00) is suspended but men suspected of bigger deals of ZESCO Poles and Oil deal ( worth millions) have gone away with it without ANY suspension.
Women be careful with such selective justice, ‘all animals are eqaul but PIGS are more eqaul than the rest’ and their actions are always justified, WHY???

  13. ZAMBIAN POLICE FORCE IS MESSED UP, CORRUPTION STARTS AT THE TOP?? WHAT WOULD YOU EXPECT?? THIS IS WHY ALL COPS JUST END UP PUTTING SILLY ROADBLOCKS TO MAKE MONEY. IT”S THE MOST USELESS GOVERNMENT SECTOR. FIRE THEM ALL.

    • Spot on! I visited home sometime in May/June only to find about 10 roadblocks (only 4 check points) btn C/Bombwe and Ndola. It’s too much mwee… I do not really know what these guys are after. Then I went somewhere in Kwacha and found that some 1diots in the name taxi drivers had parked their cars on both sides of a very narrow road and at a junction. I was like eh…our cops are too busy on the roads. Pathetic police service….sorry Police Force.

  14. I will also suppprt sata if he can fire the kambimba masebo nchinto stella n crew infact thr will b no opposition ehat will thy b opposing infact i will give him my voters card he can give who he trusts to vote for him coz thats the only thing wrong those fools around him yah i hope he reads stuff like this even keep fatty gbm he is not a probelm like to see him dancing fat albert

  15. Sata must break the strangle hold that Senegalese , Gunase, owner of grizzily mining has over our police ad immigration dpts.
he is the main breeder of corruption on the CB

  16. Another Copper belt police man was confessing on the SCOAN TV that he was promoted and yet he was not on the list for the recommended officers ,he also tried witch doctors and many more until finally he was introduced to the SCOAN.
And his supervisors are jealous and fighting him ,wow “amazing ZAMBIA .

  17. Fired for Allowin fr bwalya hold a launch political rally and impoundin fred membe copper thief trucks.

  18. Sata fires a cop! That shouldn’t even be big news, as a matter of fact he shouldn’t even handle such trivial issues, he’s got many people who can do that for him. It’s very funny, a week or so ago, a corrupt cop in Nigeria was exposed, did you hear any statement from their president? No! Our president has totally under performed in many areas, areas such as governance and in terms of dealing with corruption in his inner circle, he has been poor.

    • If its not news why are you responding? There is a lot of evil happening even in Western World but their media protects them

    • Bane let the president work and clean this corrupt tendency in cops. Levels differ we are talking about a commissioner of pombozi appointed by His Excellency.

  19. So the President reads the Watchdog?
Why is he selfish? Why does he want to be reading the watchdog alone?
Please Mr. President unblock the watchdog.

  20. This is good lesson hey!
I said it, Sata is good but his ministers and police offers are rotten in and out especially those from tribe other …………

  21. Good move but the president should also inform his employers (the Zambian people) of his whereabouts whenever he disappears from the country. How do we know whether contrary to, “the code of ethics for the public service (which) states that a public service employee shall not accept gifts, rewards or HOSPITALITY or receive benefits of any kind from any person or organisation which might compromise or reasonably be seen to compromise one’s personal judgment or integrity”; How do we know what kind of “hospitality” he gets where he goes?

  22. County her direct boss, limbogani, do that, does it have to take the office of the president to act when Limbogani had all the info on this issue?

  23. wrong is wrong, what a shame madam police these reflects the behaviour of our men in uniforms balangufwisha umuselu, they think their above the law, chase them if possible hang them SATA you’re working my bro…..another term for you still waiting 2016……we dont want these chaps ka HH and ka NEVRS you must wait until 2093 general elections.

  24. Its sad,I hope they was no corruption and it was properly documented otherwise she will be in problems. Her prayer will be Sata to leave in 2016.

  25. Most cops are corrupt especially at Traffic Section. They mount road blocks everyday and collect huge soms oof money which do not go to govt. Could the President direct ACC to investigate cops? They ahve bought posh cars and built mansions when their emoluments do not much the lavish lifestyles. When former IG Malama baneed road block, police men suffered but they are back at corruption.

  26. I have no symphathy for her. Vamituntu aside. The police officers are corrupt, vikawalala voipa. Pf be warned. These are the Zambian dat are rampage destroy yo image. Be vigillant!lndeed it has 2 take de 0 President?Where were de Min & lG?Sleeping ?

  27. Good show, but too little. Keep going in this vein and you might get a little more respect. However we are not naive enough to be satisfied with this little crumb alone.

  28. Long over due. Mary Tembo was always a corrupt cop from the time she was at Matero Police. There is nothing she won’t do for corruption, including offering her body for s.e.x. if it will get her what she is after. Some of us know her only tioo well. Finally her sins have caught up with her. Good riddance.

  29. Guys let us understand the issue, the reason for her suspension is the impounding of Fred M’embe’s trucks which were carrying stolen copper and mining minerals. That Toyota cannot be an issue and she got it in good faith, and authorities were aware of it for a very long time! What rubbish comments are you praising SATA FOR? IDOTS!!!

  30. Mupolice, invuta! remember the locked up police intelligence officer ? he will ulula a lot. Soon we shall hear the Luanshya land saga by IG and bogus scholarships. Cops are the big kawalala.

  31. Is it not corruption when Judge Ngoma discharges his gun at an opposition political rally, and the Eastern province commissioner folds her arms? Isn’t corruption when Charity Katanga allows Reserve SGT Mwaliteta assault a fellow MP in full view of the Police? Isn’t corruption when ACC director “clears” Kabimba and GBM without interviewing then?

The true story behind Mary Tembo is that she impounded Fred Mmembe’s trucks. Period! Ati corolla (@15000).Give me a big break!

    • GUNDU YOU ARE RIGHT , MMEMBE UMWANA BASUNGILA CH…………NA ,COPPER, COPPER COPPER UMUKOTE…………………………………………………………………….. UKWA

  32. This Police Service headed by Ms’s: Mary Tembo, Charity Katanga, Stella Libongani plus plus..!!. Who serves these Ms’s? Need not worry Maria girl, call me and you will enjoy a full weekend of manly and able attention.

  33. Why is this firing not coming from the Inspector General? Is there any real delegation of duty with this president? He is the Head of RDA, Inspector General of Police,……we might as well scrap Libongani’s position….the president is already duplicating her functions…..we can save a little money.

    • What an evil delegation man? Just to fire someone, it does not work like that. People may call themselves educated with all sorts of qualifications degrees, diplomas ,PhDs, doctorates can even be professors name it all but still not KNOWLEDGABLE.,worse still if may even lack wisdom. My granny would say “takwata mano ,cipuba muwelewele nangula asambilila mwaa.

  34. We shall see if ka Zmart will manage to bribe Kasosa also. Watch out Kasosa as you come to the C/belt, there are dealers like that kama tiny Zmart CEO who are corrupt to the core. He is involved in all kinds of illegalities and would always want police protection. Tembo had even assigned cops to watch over this ka man. Anyway he has built that mall in the city centre using dirty money at least it has added beauty to the town.

  35. Do we need the WHOLE president to handle Police internal matters?
A car worth K15,000 is nothing that the WHOLE nation needs to be alarmed over. Her CO could have handled this and we could be talking about something more constructive.

  36. Now my president you are being allergic to corruption, we need more to be done especially within the cabinet and close allies of your leadership. We need similar action with regards to our money got through ZDB by some crooks moving our streets freely.

  37. Mmmm awe kwena jus a simple corolla, anyway thumbs up his exellency MCS we love u so so much, lead the fight against corruption

  38. Mary `Corolla` Tembo. Seluka pa nsapato iwe musikana. Who has head of the days of Mary Quanty shoes in the 70s? The high shoes. Policemen do not say `vula nsapato` when one is wearing high shoes. Kikikikikikikik!!!!

  39. How about Mutembo Nchito is he clean Mr. Prez.? He owes the people of Zambia millions of dollars, nothing compared to that Toyota Corolla.

  40. Why is GRIZZLY corruption acts not being mentioned here? It takes two to tangle and if Mary Tembo is being punished why is GRIZZLY being let off scot-free for abetting a criminal act? Incidentally while GEMFIELDS has successfully conducted 2 local auctions of it emeralds in 2013 there is no reported sale of emeralds by GRIZZLY. Very curious indeed!!

  41. What actions has he taken against Mmembe’s trucks which have been impounded in Solwezi. ‘All animals must be equal but Mmembe seems to be more equal than everyone’.

  42. pali corolla sure!
Pk chishala said” ilingi line ututoba amaynda tupuba fye, bakaboi batoba amayanda bengi, bwana ngatalipo ashala aletoba. learn

  43. Good move Mr Pres. This will send a very strong message to all those cops who thrive on bribes. I watched some news clip about a Nigerian cop collecting bribes and informing his superiors about it not knowing that he was being video recorded by a good Naija. Zambians need to rise up to that challenge and upload every thief, not only the cops but those Immigration officers and headmasters.

  44. I wont be surprised to hear that madam Tembo as joined an opposition party and expose the wrong things PF is doing. POLITICS??????????????????
