Government will not recognize the newly installed Ex- Chief Kakeki of Zambezi district in North-Western province.Senior Chief Ishindi of the Lunda speaking people in Zambezi East installed Golden Kakeki who was de-gazetted in 1958 by the colonial masters as sub chief at a ceremony held at Mukandakunda.
However, Chiefs and Traditional Affairs Minister Nkandu Luo said the move to install the named sub chief was not in line with the laid down government procedure.Prof Luo said this in Zambezi over the week-end when she addressed provincial and district heads of government departments.She said the resurrection of Sub chief Kakeki has the potential to create further tensions between Senior Chief Ishindi and his sister, Chieftainess Nyakuleng’a if left unchecked.
The Minister said government was not communicated to concerning the installation of Sub chief Kakeki and wondered why Senior Chief Ishindi decided to install a sub chief in Chieftainess Nyakuleng’a ‘s chiefdom without her approval.She also said that her ministry will review the development in order to find a lasting solution that will lessen the tension being created between the two chiefdoms.
Prof Luo has since urged traditional leaders in the country to uphold peace and unity adding that her ministry has also sourced for funds that will facilitate the promotion of peace and unity in all chiefdoms.

When a precedence is set,it becomes a standard for measurement lest one is accused of double standards.Sosala was removed as Chief Mwamba in 2013 but re-installed as Chitimukulu within 2013 by the bena Lubemba.Mwanta Kakeki was de-gazetted by colonial masters in 1958 and 55 years later,re-installed by Senior Chief ishindi as a sub-Chief and our Honourable Minister says it’s not in line with government procedure.Are there different criteria for government procedure to situations that are similar in nature though occurring in different regions?

The area in which we have re-installed the sub-chief is vast and therefore His Majesty’s decision is appropriate. As we speak new districts are being created to easy service delivery to the masses..& it’s good. How does Luo see it wrong to bring His Majesty’s guidance close to the people of Kakeki? We the Lunda people need to be close to our King hence the re-establishing the Kakeki throne.
Luo, or her ministry, is not the custodian of our cultural heritage and values. It’s not govt that decides or presides on matters affecting Lunda culture. These are reserved for our Royal Establishment. It’s absurd to note that Luo does not realise that on 24 Oct 1964 we said no to whatever the colonial masters stood for.

That’s why I was very uncomfortable with the PF’s idea of empowering our chiefs. Chiefs are generally selfish and corrupt. Remember how they sold their subjects into slavery in exchange for trivial things like mirrors and the like. Have you seen how chiefs like Mukuni have become rich at the expense of his subjects. Only SHAKA stood and fought the British in defence of his people. That’s why he is the most revered African King.
I agree with you 100%. I was in Lumwana in May/June for my social-sci research and pple are so bitter with the way these chiefs are being treated by the mining companies and the govt. Most recommended it’s better to do away with such chiefdoms simply because they bloody-greedy and hinder development.

So the whole affair is a royal family affair which is not the responsibility of the government. All junior chiefs are installed by him in his chiefdom and as such should be displined by him.He has his Indunas as advisors not the government. Does anyone consult sata when he is firing his ministers.

the corrupt government will find it easier to work around nyakulenga than they would ishindi if the mines where really to open in zambezi. as such it is good for them to avoid ishindi who would demand transparency. it is sad that nyakulenga cant see the future would be difficult for her if she avoids ishindi in any development. for now, kakaki is the option for shindi if her sister has become a separatist. but we love her, and wish her soon return.

For Madam Nkandu Luo to have attained a high-ranking position of Associate Professor in a reputable institution called UNZA, she was expected to employ her learned intellectual capacities to provide credible advice to the PF Govt.
Matters that relate to traditional Lunda Chiefs should have prompted Prof. Luo to seek professional advice from reputable Historians, assess the issues at hand as they relate to appointment of Lunda Chiefs , and advise Govt appropriately.
The Lundas cover areas of Angola, Congo DR, Northwestern and Luapula provinces of Zambia. Prof Luo cannot rely on the 1958 decision made by the Colonial Govt who actually messed up relations between Luvales and Lundas. She must consult KK on reasons why Balobale District was renamed Zambezi. These are erious PF failures!

Besides, Prof. Luo, who lectured and researched at Unza’s School of Medicine, should have gained a clear understanding of a medical phrase referred to as “PSYCHOSOMATIC DISEASES”. These are conditions when lethal diseases are triggered by a worried mind.
Deep-rooted worries lodged in the mind can cause physiological malfunctions leading to development of lethal human diseases.
PF is in Government due to massive support it got from Northern Province. Many Psychologists are now speculating that PF-Govt interference in the installation of the new Chief Chitimukulu could have badly impacted on the mind of the President – hence triggering a diversity of serious illnesses.
Prof. Luo should have formulated an apology for Govt to regain respect and thus facilitate a healing process…

u seem not to know that mbudas, mbudus (the sound of undas in the word lundas) and the tribes starting with lu (the sound of lu in lundas,luchazis,luvales,luyi) and chokwes,nkoyas separatists from luvale and luyi respectively all came from mwata yanvo kingdom whose firstborn son ishindi is representative to install. ndugu, the uncle to ishindi could be of great help as well but he must reconcile with the mwata nyanvos first. let ishindi also install mwanta chisamba,mwanta nyachavuma and give some land to fotanyitengu,the one who paved the way for him. no drumas,viva chief ishindi.

I agree. Chiefs are the causers of so much antagonism and acrimony among their subjects. They cant even come up with simple development agendas for their people, they are so greedy. With imunity, they will be untouchable. You go to many villages in Zambia and you find people living in shacks like they are nomads and yet they belong to chiefdoms. What is the actual job of chiefs that cannot be done by civil servants?
