Mayuka scores Saints debut competitive goal

Share

Chipolopolo striker Emmanuel Mayuka on Tuesday night scored his first competitive goal for Southampton as the English side thrashed championship club Barnsley 5-1 to move into the third round of the Capital One Cup.

Mayuka ended his one year drought at the Saints with a 66th minute goal.

The former Young Boys striker was later fouled and his team mate Davis Steven stepped forward to convert the resultant penalty.

Steven Davis opened the scoring in the first half when he stroked the ball home after being set up by midfielder Lloyd Isgrove.

Jay Rodriguez doubled their lead early in the second half, but Barnsley pulled one back through Stephen Dawson.

The Zambia international was later substituted on the nick of full time before Gaston Ramirez scored Southampton’s fifth goal in the dying minutes.

Mayuka was on Tuesday afternoon named in the 26-member Chipolopolo squad to face Ghana in the 6 September 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Kumasi.

    • I was so pleased to read it on Sky Sports last night!!!!

      However…..

….Hull are at the foot of what used to be “Div 1” and all key Southampton players were rested.

    • Mushota you are the one who is wrong. This was a Capital one Cup and was played yesterday. Some matches are played either on a Monday or any other day of the week. Well done Mayuka.

    • Well done indeed Mayuka! Keep it up. The next goal you must set for yourself is to play the 90 minutes each time you’re given an opportunity, and then slowly raise the bar to being THE REGULAR STRIKER OF CHOICE

  1. Go Mayuka Go Mayuka..we are really behind man.Make us proud and represent Zambia in european league and show that not only Ivory Coast, even Zambia can do it

  2. This is good for the boy and good for Chipolopolo. He together with Jacob and Fwayo could lead the onslaught punch for punch against Khana in Kumanzi.

  3. I wish the young man all the best. I look forward to a time when he will be banging in goals regularly. Meanwhile, I want to encourage him to continue working hard. It will pay off one day. Viva Mayuka.

  4. Good for Mayuka he needs that confidence in front of goal even though they were playing a lowly ranked championship club. I still feel Mayuka should be loaned out as he is like number 4 in the pecking order when it comes to strikers in that saints team.

  5. Mushota what an imbecile born out of wedlock nangu muchani………..for once i have proved that you are very dull **** ***.

  6. What is a goal to congratulate? infact mayuka should be ashamed coz as a striker he is expected to score but he doesnt score anyway those are the players zambia has who can score 1 goal in a year shame on you mayuka & congrats

    • Dr Bill, it is either you are blogging from a bar or a mental illness is slowly closing in on your brain. If you are a real Zambian like the rest of us, you are supposed to encourage Mayuka instead of trying to bring him down even when he does something to be proud of. Yes, our players have never been to a world cup tournament but some of us are proud of them for winning the Africa Cup. Ask Kenyans, Tanzanians, Malawians and Swazis how they wish it was their team that lifted the Africa cup when our boys brought the trophy to Lusaka.

  7. Chipolopolo boys always win when they play using short passes..not that kind of soccer which we have been watching in previous games were a striker runs with a ball alone all the way into the eighteen area and not passing the ball to other unmarked players..then expect to loose or draw in kumasi which will mean not qualifying to Brasil. The real chipolopolo game is made of passing the ball believe me you,Just watch most of the games which they played when they lifted the 2012 Afcon cup it was all about passing the ball were Mayuka injected Ghana to reach the finals of tournament.

  8. He just needs to take advantage of any opportunity presented to him. It’s not easy breaking into the starting line up in any European league (even tougher in the Premier League).

  9. The chap is good only that the coach hardly use him & manytimes is not even selected to be on the bench. It annoys me! They better loan him to arsenal than being with southampton (the coach does not like mayuka).

  10. What’s wrong with some of you? you mean it’s difficult to say thank for once and boost the boy’s confidence? were you born In Zimbabwe or Ghana? or you ate hatred and you are pregnant with bitterness….learn to give credit where it’s due. Don’t just oppose and oppose we are tired of seeing your under wears.

  11. @cindy, garden boy is a little derogative in my opinion. Let’s call them something more uplifting like Lawn manager, The caretaker, Home assistant or anything a little worthy. I know you know what I mean and we live in a politically correct world to bring parity regardless of desperation in who we are and what we are.

  12. Mushota..ha ha ha..you are a joke but nevertheless a good addition to a circus crew. I hope Mayuka is back to haunt Ghana once again. Things always happen for a reason , him scoring before the Ghana match is better news and some light at the end of the tunnel.
