Kabimba’s ICC statement is wrong-Zambia Rainbow Coalition

Share

The Zambia Rainbow Coalition has charged that calls by Coalition of African Political Parties President Wynter Kabimba for African states not to recognize the International Criminal Court is misplaced.

Coalition President Cleophas Phiri said Mr. Kabimba’s statement should be condemned as it signifies a lack of adherence to the rule of law.

Mr. Phiri said that Zambia, like many other African states voluntarily joined the ICC as a way of enhancing governance and public accountability.

“We find it misplaced that Mr Kabimba could now be pushing for African states to dump the ICC, for us this is a sign that despots are emerging on the continent and should be stopped,” Mr Phiri said.

“It appears Mr. Kabimba and all those African leaders he seems to be speaking are looking for a licence to butcher their own citizens without being held accountable.”

Mr. Phiri however noted that the ICC needs to reform and ensure that it treats all nations equally.

He pointed out the need for the ICC to try former US President George Bush and his British counterpart Tony Blair for crimes against humanity.

  1. That statement is not deliberate. They want to gauge our reaction. The PF r dictators n so the reaction by Kabimba was typical of them

  2. People are short-sighted and people like Kabimba, who is a very dull “Lawyer” do not understand that it is African Govts that referred the indicted “own” people to ICC. It is the Kenyan Govt that referred Kenyatta’s case to the ICC.We all know how “dark skinned” people in Darfur were massacred.I guess we all know why Kabimba is so obsessed with Rogue sates like N Korea, Sudan,Palestine,Cuba,Zimbabwe etc.African Govts have no capacity to deal with fair trials.Just look at the Judiciary in Zambia.Would anyone trust Chibesakunda to give a fair trial to anybody who is not PF?

    • Zimbabwe is light years ahead of zambia in all fields , ts only in politics they ve problems due to UK poisoning , listing Zimbabwe , Sudan , Cuba as roque state is laughable , u shdnt be swallowing all gabbage thrown yourway by bbc n other western brokers ( media)

  3. “He pointed out the need for the ICC to try former US President George Bush and his British counterpart Tony Blair for crimes against humanity.” I`m glad that he altleast recognized how toothless the ICC is when is when it comes to western leaders and this is a reason why i supported Kabimba because he also recognized how biased and compromised the court is.The court is firstly for African leaders and secondly for the third world leaders and it ends there. The super power leaders are untouchable.Dissolve that Kangaroo court.

  4. The issue shouldn’t be because ICC is a Kangaroo court because George Bush is off the hook, the question is, are African Governments innocent of allegations of blood letting, torture, ethnic cleansing and other rights abuses against their own people? The answer is a big NO!

Just because Bush wasn’t indicted by ICC doesn’t mean African leaders must not be accountable by a higher International court. Our African courts are absolutely compromised by the Executive wings of Government. Its a fact that ordinary Africans don’t trust their own courts. ICC is therefore an effective detergent to absolute impunity by African Governments.

Kabimba is putting himself in the spotlight, for nothing!

    • Do Americans trust their courts ? Do black Americans trust courts n prosecut ors office manned by whites. ? Remember IMF Strauss Khans rape case , Y shd we?

  5. I salute u mr Phiri wit ur vital comment(Mr. Phiri however noted that the ICC needs to reform and ensure that it treats all nations equally). However, don’t devalue mr hon kabimba, but adviz him.Mr kabimba, pliz, learn to consult pipo b4 u talk

  6. Americans are saying that they have evidence that the president of Syria used chemical weapons on the 100 000 civilians killed in the attack but they are not talking about arresting him.

    • @JK, there is a process nations go through before the ICC indicts someone and eventually arrested. How long did it between issuing an arrest warrant and effecting the arrest of Ratko Miladic? If evidence is incontravertible that the Assad regime carried out the chemical attack, that is a crime against humanity and that will a matter for the ICC to try Assad. However, the ICC depends on the international community to effect the arrest and handover of the accused. That is the reason rounding Omar Bashiar is proving dicy as no African or Arabic leaders have the will power to effect an arrest.

  7. Well!

Any court of law in usa to indict their presidents for humanity crimes?

    No!

Why not send them to icc but third world leaders?

Africans please do away with this oppressve machine!
