Christopher Katongo has helped Henan Jianye to promotion back to the Chinese super League.
10-man Henan beat 11th placed Tianjin Sonjiang 2-1 on October 26 to secure a quick return to the top flight following their demotion at the end of the 2012 season.
Henan were promoted with a game in hand after amassing 62 points from the 29 games played in the 16-team League One.
Katongo played the full 90 minutes but did not add t his 10 goal tally this season for Henan with one game left to play.
It is still unclear whether Katongo will extend his contract with Henan that comes to an end this month after earlier indicating he might leave the club this season.

congrats katongo,i have watched some of your games. you are indeed a spirited and dedicated player. u have proved that age has nothing to do with it,but dedication and heart. And you have also shown true leadership and sportsmanship. even when your club was relegated, you didnt ditch them,but stayed. unlike isaac chansa who cause of pride refused to stay and play in a relegated team. now his nowhere to be heard of, not even a place in the national team. clubless i guess. big up for getting back in the first division.

That’s a mark of maturity by Christopher Katongo and also a show of good sportmanship. You dont abandon a ship just because its sinking, especially if you contributed to its state. In this case Katongo has helped revive the sinking club and at the same time his career. No wonder he still continue earning kudos at Zambia Army! by the way even if he retired form football, he has a good job to fall back on! Actually he rakes in a cool salary from the army, while at the same time getting Chinese monthly package
It all depends what his ambitions and goals in his career are but since our FAZ tolerates mediocrity any national team player is allowed to play and wear the jersey even if they play abroad in a useless division 3 league.
