Zambia Under-20 kickoff their Cosafa Cup defence today when they face Namibia.

The two sides meet in a Group C opener at Mafeteng at the tournament in Lesotho is hosting from December 3-14.

Zambia arrived in Lesotho over the weekend under the spotlight as they aim for a fourth successive Cosafa Cup title.

They also arrive at the tournament without Keagan Mumba who led them to their last two wins after he was fired from his post and replaced by Oswald Mutapa.

Mutapa is not new to the job after serving as assistant for the last decade and also had a stint as Under-17 coach.

His target is to retain the title again that will act as a strong springboard in their forthcoming Senegal 2015 African Youth Championship qualifying campaign.

“We are looking for players that can help us qualify for the African Youth Championships and the qualifying for that starts next year, so this is an important tournament. If the players do well in Lesotho then they will have a good chance to be part of that group,” Mutapa said.

Meanwhile, Mutapa will have some experience in midfielder in Lubambo Musonda while in attack, a lot is expected from striker Patson Daka.

Daka showed great promise in Zambia’s junior team at the 2013 Airtel Rising Stars in Nigeria held in September where they finished second.

  1. Awe kwena pa Zambia paliba Game. But how do we fail to qualify to the world cup if we can perform like this, holding the cup for 4 years. Where do we go wrong with our Senior team imwe mwabantu? NO! something needs to be done. I think we need to be serious on how we employee coaches.
