Lwandamina back to rescue Under-20

FAZ have brought back George Lwandamina to revive the Zambia Under-20 teams’ fortunes.

And Nchanga Rangers coach Fighton Simukonda has returned to the national team coaching setup following his appointment as Zambia under-23 trainer.

Lwandamina who led the Zambia U20 to the 2007 FIFA U20 World Cup in Canada where they reached the last 16 returns six years after he left the job to be one of Herve Renard’s assistant coaches.

He replaces Oswald Mutapa who was fired after failed to retain the Cosafa Youth Championship for a fifth successive time when his team made an early group stage exit in Lesotho in December.

Meanwhile, Simukonda returns to the Zambia setup with his first U23 appointment after previously serving at Under-17 and as Patrick Phiri’s assistant in both tenures between 2001-2003 and 2006-2008.

Simukonda was also interim Zambia coach twice with the most notable leading Zambia to the 1998 Cosafa Cup title in Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, Kampamba Chintu will be Simukonda’s assistant and also work under Patrice Beaumelle as his official number two.
Masauso Mwale has been dropped.

  1. Since Kalu is talking about coaching achievements, what has Kampamba achieved to coach at that high level?

  2. Kalu if you really mean what you’re saying, now find the time to start sending/encouraging some of these coaches (refs and administrators, too) to really update their licenses.
The ministry of sports, Ba Kambwili, should also allocate scholarship to train young people in sports journalism…we need that specialty so badly right now.
Ba Janza, don’t stay on that post for too long. After World Cup get yourself a 6 month study leave and up your grades, man. Meanwhile, get an amateurish/youth team you can coach on after hours/wkends to keep your practical skills fresh.
With love to y’all. Viva Zambia, viva Chipolopolo!

  3. If Mutapa is exiting for one count of failure at U20; then someone should also be exiting for, in fact, two counts of failure at WC and CHAN qualifications.

  4. This is like politics , why circulating on same old faces, we want new and young blood like DENNIS LOTA, ISAAC CHANSA(SINCE HE WENT QUIET) , PONGA LIWEWE not the same old George Mungwa’s malabish bati

  5. Why chintu when he has never made an impact at national team other than warming the bench because maybe he has relatives at faz, you leave out peaple with a lot of experience and have done a lot for the national team on the streets like elijah Tana. For how long are we going to stand and watch some individuals at faz dictate such dicissions without explanation.

  6. FAZ! A word of advise. You can change coaches over and over several times but as long as the football youth structures remain in shambles,Zambia will never challenge teams like Ghana and Nigeria at under 20 ,17 levels. If we want to retain the COSAFA under 20 this year in December, lets begin preparation from the time the season kicks off in March.
