Republican President Michael Chilufya Sata has reminded Zambians that the country still has a valid constitution which should be upheld by all.

Speaking during the swearing in ceremony of Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works, Supply, Transport and Communication, Dr.Bwalya Ng’andu at State House this morning, President Sata said that the current constitution is still valid pointing out that six elections have been held under the same constitution.

The Head of State has since urged Dr. Ng’andu, who was until his new appointment Bank of Zambia Deputy Governor to uphold the current constitution and not be swayed that the current constitution is not valid.

President Sata added that the only constitution he recognizes is the one the country is still using and all oaths taken are under the same constitution and thus the need for those appointed to public office to uphold it.

And speaking to Journalists after being sworn-in, Dr. Ng’andu says he will come up with programs on how best he will contribute to the development of the country.

Dr. Ng’andu said that he will work hard and ensure that he positively contributes to the growth of the Ministry and the nation at large.

  1. Now the President realizes that when you are in the opposition,it’s easy to say this and that; and when you are in power, it’s a different ball game! They promised us a new constitution to stand the test of time, and we need it now!!!

    • Mr Chumbu,
No one is arguing that the current Zambian constitution is valid. We all know it is but we also recognise that it is dated and desperately in need of change to reflect modern times and protect future generations. That is the will of the people who elected you.
You are flip flopping over this which somewhat is unbefitting of your Chumbu mushololwa name tag.

    • President Sata why did you spend all that money on this document when you knew the country did not need it.

Psychiatric doctors please help,Is this the definition of Madness,

    • I got my pdf copy of the new constitution draft from Zambian Watchdog. I am still amazed how great the watchdog is!!! so far the new constitution looks very promising.

    • Can someone remind this sweeper that it is not the Validity that is in contention!
Someone should tell him the difference – the current one he is hanging onto, has outlived its usefulness & zedians have decided we need a new one to get rid of dinosaurs like him!!

    • Did I not hear this Chumbu mushololwa say we will have a NEW CONSTITUTION in 90 days with my own ears??????????????

Either he is too uneducated to be able to count up to 90,

or he is so senile he cannot remember what he said,

or HE IS JUST A CHEAP LIAR!

    • chumbu munshololwa is the biggest idyot. ati we already have a constitution. the same constitution this biggest liar used to call a colonial constitution when he was in opposition. i fail to believe it. what did we do in 2011. ooooo this country.

    • South Africans are backward n hate our beloved President. Do you really wonder why he did not ho to the funeral?

    • @albert speak for yourself, this man is a flip flopper. Do you know how much resources were spent on the constitution making process? What was the outcome of the Chikopa tribunal??? Why was the Roger Chongwe inquiry thrown out of the window after setting it up and spending so much money paying people???? People like you really piss me off because you are blindly supporting a foool that will destroy the future for our children. That also goes for you Saulosi.

    • Are you happy that your President (Not Sata) is given a fools award outside the country? Its like your father being given a fools award in another country and your friends are laughing at you. Would you be happy? Some of these issues you are celebrating about are not good for the entire country (and not necessarily Sata). Remember he is the Zambian President not Michael Sata any more and any negative publicity outside Zambia reflects badly on the country and not him as an individual. Diplomatic etiquette should be appreciated and not an individual.

    • From Deputy Bank of Zambia Governor to Permanent Secretary at Works & Supply? From counting kwachas to counting sewage pipes..

    • ba bwalya ngandu nabo. this is an insult. if i were him i would have turned it down behind the scenes. nangu ni nsala zoona.

  2. Zambia is bigger than one un-educated Chumbu, believe me Mr Kateka we will get that new constitution with or without you before 2016. Cope that! By the way we are ready to die for that.

  3. Very unfortunate for chiwila who had a beautiful job as RDA boss. I hope its not the link zambia project that has landed u in trouble. I wish u well in your future endeavours.

    • Has Chiwala been dropped or we now have two PS’s like in most of the ministries? If indeed he has been dropped, could it be that he did not want to join in the popular PF game of short changing the Zambian people?

  4. Bushe – what is better: to work as PS or BOZ DG? I thought DG was better than PS Works – didn’t I hear that abena Fundanga were getting something like over K150m then, per month? Or it is just time to lazy around as PS?

    • There is more to it than meets the logic! If ZWD is to be believed, Bwalya Ng’andu is earmarked to take over from Alexander Chikwanda. Then again ZWD got it wrong in thinking he would be made PS in the ministry of Finance.

  5. Now what is he telling us? Is he telling us that it is not necessary to have a new constitution and if so why waste so much tax payers money on paying members who were sitting when drafting the new constitution? This illiterate lunatic has to be silenced once and for all, 2016 is too far!

  6. Chumbu Mushololwa has been honored in South Africa when is he traveling for a ceremony. By the way, Zambians are not on about the validity of the current constitution, its about the NEW CONSTITUTION. Honored as ‘ISHILU’ underpins the confusion about constitution in the mind of Sata.

  7. Imagine you are watching a match between Sata and Zambia. This by no means is a clear GOAL. Sata 1-0 Zambia. After trying all the delaying tactics finaly we are told that we actualy have a valid Constitution. Well Done Big Man.But do not forget You cannot fool all the people all the time but you can fool some people some time.

  8. Yes it is true the current constitution is valid until the new one is enacted. All the GRZ operations are being conducted under the current constitution……is that not true??

Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.

  9. Your Relatives sat on The NCC to make the Current constitution, by Mwanawasa and continued by RB. You relatives saw that it is a good consititution. UPND members were there, NAREP members were there, MMD members were there, FDD members were there and all members in One man parties were there. Just 2 years has passed and you want another consititution. What is wrong with it because you are the ones who made it. Sata and all are just using what you left behind…. Valid Consititution.

  10. Lombe Chibesakunda is protected by the amendment in the new constitution to continue acting as Chief Justice. So if there is no need for this new constitution then she is in the office illegally what do you think? The justice minister told the nation that his hands were tied due to the delay by the TC to handover the new thing. was he mad? Sata told and his PF Manifesto promised us that in his endless efforts he would enact the constitution within 90 days did I miss understood them? Whati is his plans now?

  11. Some of the groups championing the release of draft contitution, did take part in enacting the current one.give govt time,we wil have a new contitution.right now thers a lot of other pressing matters that need each and every zambian’ s effort to solve.better pressure govt to reinstate the fired nurses, mealie meal prices.not using cadres to provoke the police.

  12. Ps jobs should be advertised out to the public and let qualified people take up such position without political influence.

  13. Chumbu ala sebanya bans kaseba when I was in Namibia I was asked who our president is unfortunately before I answered one guy answered that its no King Cobra and started discussing about him it was so bad I felt so bad especially that I wasted my time and effort to vote for chumbu munshololwa.

  14. This is what we call “Gross Misconduct” iyi Violation of other law crime under section 106 sub section a and c under the Zambia constitution(In acted).

Remedies require at least 1/3 MPs to move a motion of impeatchment

  15. Zambia has a valid schizophrenic nutcase who is worse than Thamsanga Jantjie running the affairs of our dear country.Thats why he is now seeing “a valid constitution”

  16. As reported by the African Review: “Zambia President Michael Sata’s on Thursday criticised a push for a new constitution, casting a damper on hopes that the country would get the much-delayed charter anytime soon…” Has it gone with the wind?

    • It sounds as though the new constitution is headed the way of the Rogers Chongwe Commission – to the shredder and then to the trash can!

  17. IT WILL BE VERY UNFAIR IF THIS STAND OFF WILL JUST REMAIN LIKE THIS. MR PRESIDENT WE WERE EXCITED WHEN YOU TOOK OVER OFFICE FROM ONE RB. YOU PROMISED TO GIVE US A NEW CONSTITUTION IN 90 DAYS. YOU FAILED THE 90 DAYS AND WE UNDERSTOOD. YOU WENT AHEAD AND CONSTITUTED A COI TO COME UP WITH A NEW CONSTITUTION. THERE WAS A LOT OF ENTHUSIASM FROM MANY ZAMBIANS THAT AT LEAST WE HAVE A LEADER WHO WILL LISTEN TO OUR CRIES AND GIVE US WHAT WE HAVE BEEN DESIRING. NOW SIR FOR YOU TO COME AND SAY WE ALREADY HAVE A CONSTITUTION IN PLACE AND SHELVE THE FINDINGS OF YOUR COI IT WILL BE VERY SAD. YOU STARTED VERY WELL BUT THIS ONE IS JUST TOO MUCH. YOU SAID YOU WILL RULE BY THE TEN COMMANDMENTS. ONE OF THOSE COMMANDMENTS SAYS “THOU SHALL NOT TELL LIES”. WILL I BE WRONG IF I SAID YOU HAVE LIED TO ZAMBIANS?
