Former Patriotic Front (PF) Lusaka District Chairman Goodson Banda this afternoon withdrew from the race to re-contest his seat against his opponent Mulenga Sata.
Speaking when he was given five minutes to speak to the delegates at Mulungushi International Conference Centre in Lusaka this afternoon, Mr. Banda said that most of the members were blocked from entering into the conference center and it was too difficult for him to re-contest the seat.
Mr. Banda stated that he cannot participate in the election because he believes in democracy and thus the need to withdraw from the race.
Mr. Banda who did not even waste much of his time left immediately.
Mr. Banda’s withdrawal from the race means Mr. Sata is the new PF Lusaka District Chairman.
Meanwhile returning officer Dr. Ngosa Simbyakula later announced that delegates will still vote because all candidates had successfully filed in their nominations.
And Mulenga Sata says he is grateful for the support he has received from all the party members during and after campaigns.
Meanwhile, Benja Siwila, the Lusaka district PF vice secretary has called for the probing of Goodson Banda for alleged misappropriation and misapplication of party funds.
Benja said the youths in Lusaka had resolved to have Mulenga Sata as their new PF district chairman because he was the only candidate who could easily unite the party that has remained divided since Banda was ousted by Robert Chikwelete.
The PF youth district vice secretary said it was Banda and his group that had caused a lot of confusion in the party because they were against the endorsement of President Michael Sata because their preferred candidate was secretary general Wynter Kabimba.
He said Banda together with Lusaka Province PF chairman Geoffrey Chumbwe and former Lusaka Province youth chairman Kennedy Kamba had led an onslaught against members who had endorsed President Sata and that it would be politically incorrect for the group to be allowed to take control of the district.
Siwila said Banda had embarked on a campaign to slander Mulenga Sata by attacking the Lusaka deputy Mayor accusing him of using the name of President Sata to bully other contenders.
He said what Banda and his group did during the time the youths were demonstrating against Kabimba and demanding for his expulsion from the party had injured a lot of members of the party and that the general membership were angry that the group that had been against President Sata were planning to reclaim the top position of the party in the district.
Siwila said when the youths discovered that Banda was working against the party and that he was allegedly involved in the misapplication of party funds, it was not difficult to remove him because President Sata had acknowledged their action.
He wondered why Banda was even contemplating challenging Sata when President Sata had banned him (Banda) and Chikwelete from contesting the position of party district chairman.
He said it was not true that Mulenga Sata was imposing himself but that the general membership of the party was of strong view that the Lusaka City deputy Mayor would bring true reconciliation in the party.

Last time I meant my cousin-in-law was in 201,1 I was in Chilenje at that corner bar (pa Manda), Mulenga Sata came in and bought us 2 beers each, from money he received from his 2 black puppies. I think we were just 5 people there. Good guy when sober.

What are you now going to do since Winter Kabimba still stands to be your General secretary of your party? Are you telling the Nation that Banda and his group have completely removed from PF? Chungu and Kambwili still fighting what are you telling us Zambians and to your Upper Northern province there is still uncertainty of GBM with PF the bull Dozier who can change PF into disrupt and die a Natural death in Kasama and the whole Northern province What are you going to do about this?

George bush jnr succeded in politics because his biological mother was once in white house. now tell me among those three mentioned above who’s biological mother once walked in state house? no one, that is why you see them confused like street kids once there fathers are out of state house.

Of all the knowledge, skills and the experience l have acquired abroad after getting my PhD. I think it’s high time l went back home and helped develop my country. Seeing my country being led by people who have no clear vision, really saddens me a lot. Seeing politicians fighting amongst themselves with no desire to help the people, makes me sick. The only thing is l hate politics. So much hypocrisy and insults in politics. I would rather serve God than enter politics. What we need today in Zambia is God fearing politicians of high caliber with passion to serve the people and develop the country. God fearing politicians like Abraham Lincoln.
History of growing up in misery and abject poverty haunt most African politicians and hinder modern development. How can one use public funds for the nation when his chain of poor relatives are waiting for his financial support? Only God fearing politicians can detest evil and feel for all.
Street vendors now account for more than 50% of registered voters and so he has a real chance! Street Vendors will not risk voting into power another party that will remove them from the streets. They will passionately vote PF. Brace yourselves for another 10 years under the Sata Dynasty!!!!
