Share

Nkana picked up their first win of the year while Zesco United’s winless woes continued as Zambia’s CAF club cup reps continue their buildups ahead of their respective official engagements in February.

On Sunday, Nkana pulled off a stunning 3-2 win over four-time African giants TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi.

Claude Bwalya put Nkana ahead in the 22nd minute before Jonas Sakuwaha equalised in the 26th minute for Mazembe to see the two sides go 1-1 into the break.

Lottie Nyambili put Nkana back in the lead in the 64th minute before Salif Coulibaly restored parity five minutes later.

Nkana new signing Shadreck Musonda ensured Nkana left the DR Congo unbeaten with a win and draw when he scored a late winning goal in the 88th minute.

The Kitwe side earlier drew 1-1 with Don Bosco on Friday.

Meanwhile, Zesco tumbled to a fifth successive friendly game loss since the start of the year on the same date.

Zesco lost 2-1 to Don Bosco in a match that saw defender Zimiseleni Moyo concede an own goal.

Maisha Chavda scored Don Bosco’s other goal while Lazarus Kambole was on target with Zesco’s consolation goal just two days after they were thumped 3-0 by Mazembe.

  1. Whose idea was it for zesco to throw away a winning team and opt to build a new team in a tough competition..typical zambian way of doing things. No light at the end of this tunnel.

  2. The idea to rebuild was all wrong for ZESCO, THEY JUST NEEDED TO STRENGTHEN AREAS they felt needed strengthening. I hope the five games they have played have helped to put the new team together and begin to know each other. it will definitely be difficulty with this team in CAF Competition. its like qualifying for the Africa cup or world cup and you throw away all the players that qualified you and pick new ones who don’t even know each other…..? decisions decision…..wish them the best though. they are our CAF representatives.

  3. At least club competition is slowly building up here in Zambia. The standard of football had fallen tremendously. The boys need support so keep it up MTN. Whenever there is something that people are looking forward to they tend to develop interest and work extra hard. What our players need to realise now is that football can be their livelyhood so they need to do every thing in order to improve including displine.
