Swallows eat Nkana for dinner at Somhlolo

Share

Nkana have been left with mountain to climb after losing 2-0 away to Mbabane Swallows of Swaziland today at Somhlolo stadium in their first return to CAF Champions League action since 2002.

The defeat was Nkana’s first ever against a Swaziland team ending an unbeaten record stretching as far back as 1983.

Nkana were guilty of poor finishing especially in the first half with midfielder Kelvin Mubanga, Claude Bwalya and Ronald Kampamba all had great chances going begging in the first half.

However, a spirited Swallows went on to dominate Nkana on their way to a historic kill over a once revered giant.

Swallows were rewarded for their perseverance courtesy of goals by Zimbabwean striker Kudzanayi Matanda and Swaziland international attacker Felix Bardenhost who scored in the 61st and 66th minutes respectively.

But it was Bardenhost’s goal that has the Nkana camp talking after Christopher Munthali was easily dispossessed of the ball inside the box to put the result beyond doubt.

Nkana must now score three unanswered goals this Saturday under the pressure of their demanding home fans to keep their ambitions of advancing to the second round alive.

Nkana: Rabson Muchelenganga, Donashano Malama, Masauso Zimba, Billy Mwanza, Christopher Munthali, Sydney Kalume, Simon Bwalya (Shadreck Musonda 71’),Kelvin Mubanga, Claude Bwalya, Ronald Kampamba (Jimmy Njobvu 80’),Francis Kombe (Lottie Nyambili 57’)

  1. Nkana! Devil! Devil! Kalampa! Champions of Zed! Losing to minnows such as Swallows of non-footballing nation: Swaziland!! We need a football revolution pa Chilata!

    • @Umwina Zed; Brazil are best in world, but their Flammingo FC can’t beat Manchester United FC
Look at Swallows, they even have foreign players from Zimbabwe and Mozambique, did you see any foreign player in Nkana?
That Swallows have even a foreign coach from Zambia. Its a big team.

    • @Nostradamus: Nakana sana. That is trying to dig deep for an excuse and not having the tools to do so. Firstly, Brazil and English leagues might compare a little better than Zambia and Swaziland. Swaziland is lightyears behind Zambia.
By the way the equivalent of Nkana in Brazil would be Santos or Palmeiras. For your own information when Man U last played Santos in July 2011 the result was 6-0 with Neymar starring in that game.

  2. its juju,,, thats why nkana was missing on the goalmouth, the problems comes after most nkana players had their hair sharved off their heads (potato cut), they should have kept afro hairstyles like Sata would have loved they to

    • @Ndobo, please let Sata rest, he just came back yesterday. Don’t blame him for disasters falling upon Zambians.

  3. What a bad day for me. Eish from watching Manchester United ‘s poor finishing to reading about Nkana Red Devils’s poor finishing as well.Let me retire to bed early its an awful weekending. The only good thing is that HH managed to recall the gallivanting presido back to Zombie land.

  4. Just play attacking football from the word go like Liverpool did against Arsenal. 4 goals within 20 minutes, remarkable! You need to up your game @ Authur Davies.

  5. If they can lose like that, to such a team, no matter what they do in the return leg, I think they cannot be said to be Champions League winning material!

  6. The loss shows the extent of decline of Zambian football. When they performed badly during the off season with Mamelodi and Don Bosco ,supporters were busy defending the poor tactically prepared team. The results are there to see.Even if they go through, there are tougher teams out there like Kaiser Chiefs,TP Mazembe and not forgetting the North African teams.
FAZ you need to come up with a long term strategy to arrest this slump. Twasebana pafula

  7. well though I did nt watch the game, I think nkana made a mistake by trying to play new players in n since they were away why nt play cautiously by letting them come to you n counter attack. nkana are good at home n with their home support eish they r unstoppable. my opinion is that they cud hav jst played for a draw or a slander loss n kill the game at home. now its tricky coz the home team will be on pressure coz expectections r high. good luck kalampa, we r behind yo back. brave nchanga rangers supporter

  8. This time around we need our keeper Mweemba in the goal he,s the one who qualified us Kombe and Sate Sate should pull their soaks no nonsense for Munthali he seems to be slow on the ball remember he costed our game when we played Power away in a similar way let Nyimbili and Musonda start is Bruce going to play this time.

  9. Nkana’s poor performance started showing during the four club tournament in january, the club was ejected from the tournament. If they have to qualify to the next round they must up their game or else they risk being ejected in the first stage.
