United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichelem has distanced himself from assertions that he wished President Michael Sata ill health.
Mr. Hichilema said it is normal and human for anyone to fell sick hence there be no need for anyone to become emotional and too sensitive over someone’s illness especially when one is a public officer.
ZANIS reports that the opposition leader said this in a statement made available in Lusaka yesterday.
He said mocking someone over their health status is sad and unacceptable especially in a civilized society like Zambia’s.
Mr. Hichilema said he and his party, the UNPD do not subscribe to such behavior.
He claimed that his alleged comments over the health of president Michael Sata was misconstrued in order to divert people’s attention from matters of national interest that have surfaced lately.
Mr. Hichilema recalled that the issue came about via a question from a journalist at the last press briefing at the UPND secretariat when he was asked to comment on speculation that State House was not been sincere to the public on whether or not President Sata was unwell and his whereabouts.
Mr. Hichilema said his response was to ask State House to clear the air on the whereabouts of the President and definitely, state whether the President was unwell given that he is a public asset.
He said that the UPND also indicated that if the President was unwell, then Zambians should pray for his quick recovery and that the UPND wished the President well for him to govern up to 2016.
Mr. Hichilema stated that the UPND further indicated that it would like to defeat President Sata and the Patriotic Front at the 2016 elections given his alleged failure to meet many of his campaign promises and overall poor governance of the PF.
He claimed the sickness issue is aimed at diverting the attention of Zambians from demanding for a people driven constitution.
Meanwhile, CHIEF Chimbuka of the Bemba speaking people of Chinsali District in Muchinga Province has asked UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema to explain the illness of President Michael Sata.
Speaking when he paid a courtesy call on Paramount Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni of Eastern Province at his Ephendukeni palace in Chipata yesterday,Chief Chimbuka said he was dismayed that Mr Hichilema has continued talking against the health of President Sata to the public.
He said being one of the relatives ,President Sata had not briefed him about his sickness which Mr Hichilema had continued talking.
He said most of the relatives of President Sata were unaware of his illness which the opposition leader has continued to talk about.
He said it was always inhumane for people like Mr Hichilema to continue talking about the health of someone like President Sata.
Chief Chimbuka said Mr Hichilema has showed that he was too emotional with President Sata and charged that the opposition leader would continue to be a failure if continues with his outburst on the Head of State.
“HH has continued to talk about the health of President Sata.Let him explain the sickness of Mr Sata because as far as i am concerned we have not being briefed by President Sata that he is sick.He is my relative,”he said.
Chief Chimbuka said late UPND Leader Anderson Mazoka led the opposition political party very well because he did not practice on tribal lines unlike Mr Hichilema whom said was fond of tribalism.
And Chief Mpezeni said Mr Hichilema had no love for President Sata and asked the opposition leader not to play with illness.
He said Mr Hichilema should stop talking about the health of President Sata but questioned the Government on developmental which it had done implemented since it came into power.
Chief Mpezeni said Mr Hichilema should practice his politics very well because President Sata was appointed or elected to lead Zambia by the majority of Zambias.
He said politics was not about insults but reminding Government what it had not done.
He said Mr Hichilema should happy that the current Government had done a number of projects like schools and roads.
Chief Mpezeni said he was particularly happy that China Jiangxi International Corporation was working on Chipata-Vubwi road.
He also declared this years Nc’wala traditional ceremony as ready saying a number of chiefs have been invited.

Sometimes I get disgusted with the Zambian reporting system. Honestly, when and where did HH make such utterances against the President? Probably we still have got a big majority of Zambians who have not gotten under the skin of the English Language as such whenever something is said in English by a professional, they always misinterpret it. Development is accelerated when there is good governance in place. Governance entails that rule of law and freedoms are upheld.
Look at Gadaffi, he build his country from a scratch. He constructed roads, school and hospitals with modern equipment. He made sure that Libyans out of work were got benefits more than any country in the world. But you know what; Libyans were not happy despite all that Gadaffi did for them because they were not free. CHIEF Chimbuka of Muchinga Province says Hakainde Hichilema is a failure in his political life.
And Paramount Chief Mpezeni says Hichilema seems to be fixed to his tribe and does not want to work with others.
Speaking when he paid a courtesy call on Mpezeni at his Ephendukeni palace this afternoon, chief Chimbuka said it was strange that Hichilema knew of an illness afflicting President Michael Sata, which he, as a relative, was not aware of.
He said President Sata’s relatives would have known about his illness earlier than Hichilema.
“Now, if this person (President Sata) dies, what will my family say?
Who are they going to say has bewitched him? Hakainde is a failure in his political life. I can say this openly, I can’t hide anything at all. Where UPND has come from, it had a lot…
“I am waiting for him (Hichilema) to tell me what he (President Sata) is suffering from. If you want to be a leader, don’t be emotional so that at the end of the day, you say things that are not supposed to be said,” chief Chimbuka said.
He said one province could not take Hichilema to State House.
“Hichilema is a failure in politics; he is just power-hungry. I don’t know why Hichilema is always bitter when he is talking about Sata. A politician should talk about development. Sata stayed for ten years (in the opposition), talking about development. I am complaining about HH’s utterances because I am bitter with him,” chief Chimbuka said.
He said the PF government had brought a lot of development in Muchinga Province.

The political atmosphere in Zambia is getting tense each day, you as an opposition leader must be cautious of any statement you make concerning the president. Bloggers and cadres will take one small piece of your statement and grow it on all corners of Zambia, no one will call them for questioning. Thats the reason I would urge you to weigh all options before you make any statements. Follow Dr Mumbas or Sir chipimos way of voicing out issues, right now I havent heard anywhere about them commenting on sensitive issues, not that they dont have anything to say, timing is important.

Do not be surprised at HH. He is a typical Tonga. In tonga land there in no paramount chiefs. Tongas do not have this submission attitude to chiefs like most African tribe do. If a chief disobeys his subjects they criticise and get rid of them just like that. Read their history.
There is nothing sensitive about questioning where the president went to spend his fake holiday. HH was exercising his constitutional right in raising these issues. To be honest he is not the only one asking such questions in Zambia. Dr Mumba and Chipimo are also raising the same concerns about Sata’s archaic leadership styles but they are not picked on why? I think HH must refer such questions back to the drawer. Some political postures can be replayed until they seem bad even when they started from a good, valid point. Just like religion, matters of personal health must remain the preserve of the owner (and his medical personnel) until such time as is necessary. Clearly the tribalism is against the tonga speaking people. What did this people do against the people in the northern section of Zambia? God help us.
The tribalism is Tongas insulting Bembas and calling them monkeys and Bembas insulting Tongas as cow dung! Both these tribes have built up so much pressure against each other such that soon it will be unheard of for them to live in peace with each other. Thank GOD they are poles apart, one tribe in the North the other in the South so they would have to cross other tribes in between to wage war. Hence just keep talking until Christ comes!

I wish President Sata the best health & well-being, as though disappointed with his party P.F, he is still our Elected President.
However people need to be VERY CAREFUL, as President Sata is on record having mocked, made fun of others illness & misfortune in past. For that I as a human who’s NOT Perfect, I forgive him, as I wish others will forgive my trespasses’

HH is not and has never made jokes about the president’s illness. All he says is state house should clear the air as to Sata ‘s health to avoid speculations.Only kids don’t born 5 years ago do not know that Sata once kissed the grave had not been for Mwanawasa’s good heart. The same man he made fun of and demanded for him a medical to saved his life.

You can strengthen your argument by being objective. Just go back to the archives and see what Sata and did to Mwanawasa and said and with what vitriol caustic language he said it. If Mwanawasa did not sanction Sata’s flight to SA for medical treatment, you guys would have heard more viciousness from your Sata who can never go wrong in your minds.
