Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini has has advised parliamentarians against engaging him into partisan politics.

Speaking in parliament yesterday, Dr. Matibini urged the MPs to choose platforms where they could discuss matters of politics but not in the House.

Dr. Matibini also said that he is monitoring the continued absence of some opposition Members of Parliament (MPs) during proceedings in the House.

Last week, the speaker formally received two complaints against the opposition MPs who included those currently serving in the Privilege Parliamentary Committee and assured that the complaints would soon be processed accordingly .

The Speaker disclosed in parliament yesterday that the absence of the opposition members was unjustified and expressed displeasure at the development.

He reminded the members to be fully committed and attend all parliamentary business.

Most of the opposition MPs mainly MMD and UPND seats were desertedtoday in the Chamber prompting Kafue MP Mr. Obvious Mwaliteta, who is also Central Province Minister, to rise on a serious point of order to which the Speaker accordingly advised.

Dr. Matibini said this when he made a ruling in the House today following a point of order raised by, Mwaliteta who wanted to find out if UPND MPs were in order to continue absconding from the House during parliamentary debates.

“I have explained this before that the continued absence of the opposition MPs is totally inexplicable. I must remind you all honourable members of this House that you must be present in the House during deliberations at all times. l will continue monitoring the situation which is unjustified at the moment but l can assure you that action will be taken sooner than later,” the Speaker said.

  1. wena speaker! constitution is not partisan politics why are you answering questions which have not been asked,,,, answer questions about the constiution

    • Speaker elo apena! Choosing another place to discuss Politics???? Has he really lost it?? Does he really know where he is & what his job description is??
I thought Ukwa needed a mental review, but, I think someone else needs it much SOONER!!

  2. Table the constitution and parley will resume. U know why they are absent and cannot address the issue at hand. Talk to ukwa and resolve the issue. If need be desolve parley then a serious pipo will rule Zambia.

  3. But how can he not engage in partisan politics when he was appointed by you-know-who??

We need to strip powers of the president like yesterday.

  4. If this is a partisan matter, it will fizzle and die like many others before.

    BUT if ….

the demand of the constitution is of a national character and seared into the minds and hearts of these freedom loving Zambians, no amount of intimidation or brutality in the august House or on the streets will crush the peoples resolve.

I saw it during the fight for the introduction of multi party democracy in 1989/90 and the failed attempt by Mr Sata to impose FTJ on Zambians throug a third term. Despite beatings, arrests and financial and economic blackmail. The people remained resolute and overcame.

The question is simply whether Zambians are resolve to have a people driven constitution. Sata or Kabimba are NOT a factor.

  5. Zambians are not fo.ols (vipuba. ifipuba, bafubafuba, vizende). We know that Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini is a staunch PF activist dapped in sheep’s skin. We shall never trust him.

  6. Hon. Matibini,
If you do NOT want to be engaged in “partisan politics” then stay clear of “partisanship” by doing your job without bias, not been influenced by the “comrades” from current governing party and be fair and equitable in your decisions.
    That simple.
By the way, why there is heavy presence of armed police in and around Parliament?
To promote democratic debate or to intimidate Honorable Members of Parliament.
However, if you want to see how Speaker in UK deals with “unruly” Hon. Members, there is no secret, just tun-in to BBS or Sky for P.M. Question Time.

  7. SO WHAT IF U ARE MONITERING THEM?U ARE JUST LIKE A CHAIRMAN NO POWERS U CANT BEAT THEM TRY GARRY NKOMBO AND SEE
