The Forum for Democracy and Development (FFD) has backed calls for the resignation of Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda and Bank of Zambia BOZ governor Dr Michael Gondwe for allegedly failing to provide solutions to country’s economic challenges.
Speaking in an interview FDD spokesperson Antonio Mwanza said the two people running the country’s economy have failed and should resign so that other people can takeover the running of the two respective institutions.
Mr Mwanza said Mr Chikwanda is no longer young and does not have the energy to work for long hours required for demands to run the country’s economy hence should pave way for someone younger with the energy and capacity to understand the dynamics of modern economy.
“Mr Chikwanda is no longer young to work 6 to 6 and running the country’s economy requires someone with the energy to work long hours and deal with the demands it comes with.”
“Mr Chikwanda does not understand the dynamics of modern economy as you can see from his borrowing, he should resign and save the country from totally collapsing,” said Mr Mwanza.
He observed that the Minister has continued to lead the country towards debt trap like he did when he was Minister 40years ago with his borrowing hence the need for him to resign before he mortgages the country again.
And Mwanza said BOZ governor should not be leading the institution as his qualification are that of an investment lawyer and not a banker.
He said Dr Gondwe should be looking for investors to invest in the country instead of leading the central bank.
“Mr Gondwe should not be sitting at the Bank of Zambia, Mr Gondwe should be looking for investors to come and invest in Zambia,” he said.
Last week Zambian Voice Executive Director called for the resignation of the Minister and his counterpart BOZ governor Micheal Gondwe for allegedly failing to find solutions to country’s economic challenges and the free fall of the kwacha against major foreign currencies.
Nabanaka bashikulu lekeni batusheko.
Let the big man go and bring back Magande. Do you know that the best finance ministers are always from Southern province? Under Kebby Musokotwane the economy was ticking and so was the case under Magande.
Under Kebby Musokotwane , the economy was ticking? Sorry mate it was in intensive care in the 80’s. There are only three Finance Ministers in the history of Zambia who presided over a growing and stable economy. These are Arthur Wina the first Finance Minister. Then Magande under Levy and Musokotwane under RB.
The worst are from Northern, Luapula and Muchinga…….
There was Kasonde ……..Nawakwi………Kalumba and now Chikwanda. Nothing to show from them. May be Mutati can make a difference.
I have never heard of a kaonde, kachokwe, kalunda nor even kaluchazi as a finance minister. Can they make the grade?
Try Kabinga pande. You will see the best results ever. He has the Bank of Zambia experience.
kabinga Pande worked for BOZ in the Public Relations Department. He is a journalist
These dinosaurs really have messed up a good economy that they inherited from MMD! They have squandered all the reserves that were built up, and now they are borrowing to keep the illegal unbudgeted PF EXPENDITURE on bye-elections and Satas three salary increases!
They should never have been appointed in the first place. The current state of the economy and strength of the Kwacha is directly due to Satas ignorance, stupidity and nepotism.
The sooner they are OUT the sooner Zambias economy will recover.
