Shinde Stadium to be re-opened in May

Mighty Mufulira Wanderers have announced that the renovated Shinde Stadium will be re-opened in the first week of May.

Mopani Copper Mines have rehabilitated the stadium at a cost of about K500, 000.

Club vice-chairman Philip Zyambo said Shinde Stadium will be ready for use in two weeks.

“Shinde Stadium will be ready at the end of this month. In the first week of May we will go back to our home ground,” Zyambo said.

Last month, Mighty prematurely used Shinde Stadium for their FAZ Division One North opener against Kitwe United which they won 2-1.

But after realising that the stadium was not yet ready Mighty requested FAZ to reverse their home matches until Shinde was fit.

“When we played Kitwe the stadium was not ready. The dressing rooms were not yet renovated, so we requested FAZ to allow us play home matches away,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mighty have begun this year’s season on a good note after picking seven points from four matches.
So far the club has two wins, a draw and a loss.

  1. Zambian football stadia need fundamental review; this is the very reason we need progressive forward thinking policy makers in govt especially ministry of sport. Most of these stadia do not meet international safety standards and are an eyesore. Stadia in England were in an appalling state 30 years until gov’t took a stand after the Hillborough stadium disaster in Sheffield. These templates are there for us to drawn on and move forward; we need a roadmap for better safer facilities, how can the number one sport in the country have such appalling stadia at club level? Govt should step in & create a national recognized safety body to oversee municipal councils & also provide financial incentives in form of tax relief to clubs & their sponsors undertaking new construction projects.

  2. Imwe ba Mopani K500,000! I spend that much to renovate my house! Anyway ba LT give us pictures so we can see how much Mopani is investing in our sports teams. MAPIKICHA!
