Blades slay Buffaloes

In-form striker Elson M’kandawire grabbed a second half brace as Konkola Blades sealed a 2-1 win over Green Buffaloes at Konkola Stadium in Chililabombwe on Saturday.

This was M’kandawire’s second consective brace as he scored twice last week when Konkola thumped Nchanga Rangers 3-1 in Chingola.

Buffaloes made a false start when captain Felix Katongo gave them a 1-0 lead into the half time break with a 41st minute goal.

Katongo finished off a deflected John Musukwa pass from close range.

But Blades turned tables in the second half and it paid off in the 53rd minute when M’kandawire headed in a McDuff Chungu cross from inside the box.

He completed his brace with another header from Davies “Spacio” Kalandanya cross after 78 minutes.

Buffaloes attempted to come back into the game with some late flashes from Buchizya Mfune and Felix Sunzu.

One of those flashes came in the 88th minutes when Mfune saw his free kick miss the target by few inches from the edge of the box.

  1. Congrats Blades I am your perpetual fan for life since 1960 when you were known as Bancroft North-End just for one reason that because you were the first team I ever saw play organised league football in my life and I have remained your fan. I still remember some first team players then who could have demised by now like Howard Mwikuta, Kingston Theu, keeperJames Kaiche, Polotasio Makofi, and by the time I left Chililabombwe in 1967 we had stars like Dick Chama and keeper Musonda Kube. Last sunday was very emotional to watch Blades beat Rangers because from 1967 I had relocated to Nchanga and socially supported Rangers but in my heart I have always remained Blades fan. My wife is die-hard Man United fan. but for me it is Blades forever although I left Copperbelt in 1973.
