A former Copperbelt University Union representative Nicholas Sibalwa has welcomed government’s decision to increase additional four thousand bed spaces at the University in Kitwe.
Mr Sibalwa said the move is welcome as it has been the cry of Copperbelt University students for a long time now.
He was speaking to ZANIS in an interview in Lusaka today that the issue of bed spaces in most public Universities and colleges is one which needs to be looked into seriously.
Mr Sibalwa hinted that construction of additional hostels in public Universities and colleges will reduce congestion which currently has engulfed most higher learning Institutions.
Recently, Copperbelt University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Naison Ngoma, said the university will soon receive additional student accommodation; initially about 4,000 bed spaces and later up to 10,000.
Professor Ngoma also revealed that other government initiatives, including the Private-Public Partnerships (PPPs) on hostel accommodation are firmly on track.
He,however said these were unlikely to meet increasing demand for hostel accommodation.
construct rooms not primitive bed spaces
Where will the beds be? pamutenge?
you obviously donot understand what they mean by bed space,,,,,, let me make it simple for you bed space means constructing a chi dormitory or something like a holding jail cell where very space is used for sleeping on hence bed space ,,, no privacy…. but rooms or hostel should have a specific number of occupants with privacy and respect… okay?!! just dont start a fight with me,,,, am praying for Zambia to be saved at the moment
they need to engage private sector, or investors they surely have no money to provide meaningful solutions, there is big money in education, Nubian sweetie
we can partner up and built high scale cheap hostels to rent out.
