MMD President Dr Nevers Mumba has charged that the former ruling party stands a good chance of bouncing back to power in 2016.

Dr Mumba said the MMD can win the 2016 election because failure by the PF to deliver most of its campaign promises has worked in favour of the MMD.

He said Zambia could emulate other African states such as neighbouring Malawi, Benin and Ghana where former ruling parties bounced back to power in the next election immediately after losing power.

Dr Mumba said Zambians are now able to see the many achievements of the MMD when they compare it with the miserable record of the PF’s three year rule.

He was speaking over the weekend when he flagged off the campaigns for the forthcoming August 19th 2014 Mangango parliamentary and several Local Government by-elections at Mpatamatu Sports Complex in Luanshya.

Dr Mumba has called on MMD members on the Copperbelt to work hard and ensure that they mobilize the party and scoop the three local government by-elections lined up in the Province.

Dr Mumba said it is imperative for the MMD to scoop the ward by elections on the Copperbelt due to the importance of the province to Zambia’s politics.

“I have come here today because of the significance that the MMD has attached to the politics of the Copperbelt Province, we have three by elections and I want to flag off these elections and instruct our forces that come that day of voting, the MMD shall emerge victorious,” the MMD leader said.

He said, “Don’t listen to those that are instilling fear in you that the MMD will never bounce back saying there is no political party that loses an election and bounces back. In MMD you have all the reasons to bounce back to power. Let me explain to you today because by now PF expected us to be totally disintegrated, three years after elections, very few parties survive after losing power.”

“I want you to realize that we have been attacked from the front, from the back, from the rear, from the side that we are not coming back. They themselves are trying to comfort themselves by lying to themselves that we are not coming back.”

He stated, “We are not going to be the only or the first party to come back to power after losing power, our friends in Malawi demonstrated just last month that a party can come out of power and return to power. In Ghana, the former ruling party came back, in Benin they said the former ruling party can’t come back, it came back, even here in Zambia, we are coming back,” Dr Mumba declared amid cheers and applause.

He said the MMD must be strong and be vigilant, as it prepares to return to power.

“We have endured so much pain, we have cried so much and we have been insulted and jailed. From the time we lost power, it has been too much, everyday it was Nevers arrested, our vehicles and our cars have been taken away and now we are saying enough is enough. Even a termite can bite if you push it.”

Dr Mumba also lashed out at his critics for saying a Pastor cannot win a general election.

“They are saying Nevers can’t win an election because he is broke, yes I’m not a millionaire and I’ve never prayed to God to make me a millionaire. I’m Ok with the way God made me. When you are buying mealie meal, I feel the way you feel the pain, when you are buying cooking oil, I feel the way you feel. Millionaires can’t even feel that way,” he said.
“They are saying a Preacher man can’t win an election. Let me remind you, most of the key MMD members fled after losing elections as they were scared of the PF. No one was even shouting the Hour because of PF, when I arrived from Canada I found people hiding, I declared that Ni Donchi Kutina and I told Mr Sata that I will take him on and I did that I fought to save the MMD,” he said.

“Don’t be scared of a human being. All the MMD regalia went into hiding, it was Pa Bwato throughout. I went and prayed to God that God please liberate your people and I declared the Donchi Kubeba slogan and our women started wearing the Chitenge again and we went round the country and galvanized the members and today they can challenge me that I’m a week candidate. Where were they when no one wanted to attack the PF”?

And speaking in Masaiti’s Chinodo ward where he received an overwhelming welcome, Dr. Mumba said there are some individuals insisting that the MMD is a finished party but that people should ignore such people.

Meanwhile, Copperbelt Province Acting Information and Publicity Secretary Peter Phiri said members of the party should ensure that they defend the party’s legacy as party had the blue print to all the infrastructure development that the ruling party officials keeps bragging about.

“When everything is being constructed, there is a plan. You know the MMD colour is blue, so from now on tell them that the party that has the blue print is the MMD. All these roads, clinics, schools were our projects from the Chiluba days. In 1991, Dr Chiluba asked us to tighten our belts and asked us to sacrifice and we sacrificed for 10 years because UNIP had messed up the economy, one couldn’t even afford to drink a Coca Cola, Mr Phiri said”

  1. Dreaming. Takalaba akakunyelele. MMD wasted 20 years plundering the economy without any sense of development. Pastor Mumba you are not a Leader. Good day

    • @chileya, He is not dreaming. Just like he has pointed out in reference to Malawi, Ghana, etc, the wind of change is certainly blowing once again and people are going to decide who they want to lead them in 2016. As far as am concerned, Dr Mumba will be the 6th president of Zambia in 2016. Mucibemba batila “umupini ukulangile umwanakashi libwelelo”. So dont write MMD off completely…

    • Ba guy MMD changed the shape of this country don’t forget that if u were from the KK times of suffering the only bad about MMD was corruption viva MMD change and learn from the loss and you will be back

    • Lie to me first time , you are a f00l. Lie to me the second time I am the f00l.

Unless Zambians are so f00lish to be lied to for the second time, they will vote MMD. Should I say the concept of entropy, also applies to country governance as well.

MMD is simply a waste of time. There is nothing new they will do that didn’t do when they were in power. MMD and PF are the same. Please people don’t be cheated.

If you don’t like UPND, then try NAREP not the failed MMD, or UNIP please people.

Come the next general election the choice should be between NAREP and UPND. These are the future for now people. Let forget PF and MMD and move on.

My vote is on UPND because the leaders of UPND are of high calibre and seem very honest compared to NAREP. Maybe its because I have not…

  2. Indeed Mr President – MMD shall bounce back to power come 2016 it will be “the hour at work”. I can urge you also not to be distracted by the amount of criticism from people who doesn’t share your thoughts: but let that propel you to consistently articulate issues that will help reduce poverty in our mother zambia – because this is the most single calamity that has continuously been affecting majority of the population. Make this a priority on the list of things you intend to do as you come in power in 2016…Chwe chwe chwe

  3. At least there is democracy in MMD and you can sneeze! In other parties you do not criticise the Big Man even on his deathbed, or the other party where the owner is perpetually from one region.

  4. Dr Mumba with all the due respect I have for you… that thing will never bounce back!! it needs major reforms!!!

  5. Never, over my dead body. Zambia forward. We had enough of plundering of our resources where your leaders sent our money into their private accounts overseas and now we have SataN doing the same but fo0lishly with Finance Bank. We are moving on!

  6. Dr. Mumba you declared that Zambia shall be saved, indeed the time has come for that prophetic declaration.

  7. Well if zambians will remember good things about mmd then you can have hope ,but I don’t see pf going away now see what has happened in these two years , compare it to the 20years of mmd , look at civil servants teachers etc they can tell you their story ask doners and their money ask the publick about the law on abuse of office ,

  8. Wanzelu comments show that he is not seeing what is happening in the country. Your thinking wanzelu is that the party which has not been power will win in 2016. You are blinded by the passed and you are failing to see what is going on at the moment. This mentality you have will give PF another term because no single party at the moment will win. And this is the reason why PF does not want the new constitution and PF knows that the opposition parties are not united. Look at the numbers in the country and don’t be cheated.
My friend UPND will continue winning all seats in Southern Province. MMD will win all seats in Eastern Province, some in central, western, North Western, Northern and Muchinga and of course Lusaka where all major parties will share votes.

  9. #11…….Please tell them. In less than 4 years this country has changed. We have schools, universities, hospitals, clinics etc, etc being built everywhere. The roads are being maintained. People in rural Zambia have seen tarred roads and electricity. The list is endless.

    • Yes you are seeing all these things because they were left by MMD’s plan up to 2030- its all MMD’ brain child and PF is riding on this.

  10. ..may be, may be not…….what is the new strategy/formula….??…the forth coming 6 bye elections shall be used as a litmus test….

  11. MMD’s strongest stronghold is eastern province where they command about 71% popularity just like UPND which has 71% in southern province with about the same vote count. If one analyses the strengths of these two parties in other provinces, MMD appear to be more popular than UPND because MMD has more popularity than UPND in lusaka, copperbelt, northwestern, Western, Central, muchinga, northern and luapula provinces.MMD is of course behind PF in terms of popularity (PF 42%,MMD 35%,UPND18%..) As one might see from these figures MMD stands a better chance to catch-up or surpass PF than UPND who are a distant third at 18% although this is highly unlikely given the likely additional support the PF has attracted as a result of its unprecedented infrastructural development.

  12. BA NEVER MUMBA TITHE. JUST BECAUSE YOU THOUGHT AND BELIEVED SATA WAS NO MORE MWATAMPA UKUSABAILA ATI MMD WILL BOUNCE BACK. MULI UBUSHILU SANA MU OPPOSITION. TAMWAKWATA AMANO BA NEVERS. YOU ARE VERY EMPTY IN YOUR HEAD.

  13. From this time on, we people of Zambia wants a leader who is highly learned and who can focus on developing Zambia countrywide regardless of which tribe found in the particular area and give opportunities to all Qualified Zambians regardless of their tribes & regions they come from.E.g Mwanawasa was giving appointments to all Qualified Zambians.
Sata is giving appointment to only one tribe that is bembas.meaning he is a tribalist.
RB appointed many Zambians as well regardless of which tribe they come from.meaning he is a non Tribalist.
But we wonder if Nevers can be a one tribe appointee as well, because we N .Westerners fear for our safety.we don’t want to make two consecutive mistakes again.

    Thanky.

  14. True MMD can bounce back in 2016 Mr Mumba; but certainly not under you as president; In fact give the youth a chance and you lack the vip that makes a president. HH is beating you on that score, you do not have the drive nor the guts; God helps those who help themselves. We need someone with a heart for Zambia not for more money in their pockets.

  15. i like the comments of one of the bloggers above. ‘The Hour at Work.’ Nevers looks good and fit for the battle ahead. I also like Never’s comment that when he came back from Canada, everyone in MMd was hiding. Its true.

Certainly the way things have happened, the relentless attempts by the ruling party to destroy MMD have not worked. Nevers seems resilient and on a comeback trail.

Its trule that Nevers cannot be accused of the deeds of the Old MMD as he was not here. Something new is surely happening making even HH to start mattacking MMD. He seems to be sensing danger because he was riding on the recent confusion in MMD which they have dealt with maturely and democratically. There is a new wind. The volcano which Mr. Sata feared seems to be rumbling.
