Southern Province won the 2014 Airtel Rising Stars Under-17 National Football Championship after thumping Luapula Province 3-1 in the final played at Edwin Imboela Stadium in Lusaka on Tuesday.
A brace from Evans Silukomela and a goal by Maybin Kalengo sealed the win for Southern while Bradford Mwansa scored Luapula’s face saver on the day.
Chipolopolo coach Patrice Beaumelle and his Under-17 colleague Chris Kaunda were in the stands as Southern walked to the champions podium.
And Copperbelt won the girls 2014 Airtel Rising Stars National Championship after silencing Lusaka 4-3 on postmatch penalties following a goalless draw in the lunch-time final at Edwin Imboela Stadium.
Meanwhile, Kaunda has selected 40 players to be in the provisional squad as Zambia prepares for the 2014 Airtel Rising Stars Africa Championship to be hosted by Gabon later this year.
The players were picked from the ended national championship in Lusaka.
I am tempted to attach politics to this purely sporting achievement. On behalf on the UPND congratulations! Let’s do the same, politically, on the national scale in 2016.

Yet the national team is always full of players from Muchinga, Northern, Cpperbelt and Luapula provinces. No wonder we keep on loosing!
Relax people. Don’t bring politics to football. Look at the names of the scorers from the South team. Kalengo is from Luapula or Nothern/Muchinga and the guy with a brace (Evans Silukomela) sounds like he is from the Western province. So don’t bring tribalism. And ba Socrates, Hichani Himonde is Tonga, Toaster Nsabat is Tonga, The is that Nyambe guy also. So the national team is balanced. Thanks
Simple and petty minds discuss individuals, tribes and races. You will never find brilliant minds anchored in tribal and racial bigotry. I am sure these boys were just enjoying themselves, playing a game they love and never did it cross their mind that they were playing to prove that Southern Province (as a tribe) is better than any other!!!
Zambian r boring “u r simply kolwe”regardless of the modern exposure a Zambian is a Zambian.
Am very disappointed with our national broadcast for not televing these games.
This is where you bring in mature politics. When are the young people going to be exposed if you cannot televise such games? Money is not part of the matrix here because PF is able to host numerous by elections. You wonder why you don’t know your National team as well as you know Arsenal/ManU….?
