Boxers shine in Glasgow

Two boxers kept Zambia’s medal hopes in the competition alive after winning their respective bouts at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Saturday night.

Middleweight Ben Muziyo beat Jamaican Michael Gardner 3-0 in a last 32 contest.

Muziyo will now face Brody Blair of Canada on Monday night in the last 16.

Also through on Saturday was Charles Lumbwe who advanced to the last 16 of the Light Welterweight contest after beating Bernardo Marrime of Mozambique 2-1.

Lumbwe is in action this evening against Junias Jonas of Namibia.

Meanwhile, Light Flyweight Bwalya Lumbwe enters the ring for the first time on Monday against Ugandan Fazil Kaggwa.

Zambia has a five-member boxing team in Glasgow but two boxers have already bowed out of the competition.

Flyweight Chris Katanga and Welterweight Mbachi Kaonga were eliminated on Friday night.
