MMD National Secretary Muhabi Lungu says the former ruling party does not have a position on reports that Rupiah Banda will bounce back into active politics because they are mere speculations.

Mr Lungu said the MMD is not compelled to state its position because it feels the reports are mere speculations without any substance.

He said as far as the MMD is concerned, Mr Banda is a retired politician who is enjoying his retirement.

“I don’t think it will be fair for the MMD to state its position on a matter it believes does not exist because what we know is that Mr Banda is not in the equation anymore. He is retired and that is all there is,” Mr Lungu said.

Mr Lungu added that the MMD currently has a President in Dr Nevers Mumba and any change of presidency in the party is governed by clear constitutional provisions.

“The MMD is a well-structured organisation with clear constitutional provisions. We will not worry about somebody coming to take over the party because the party has rules and procedures on how these things could be done,” he said.

There have been growing speculations that an underground movement is underway to convince former President Rupiah Banda to come out of retirement and steer the nation in a transitional period in an event of a presidential by election.

Mr Banda has however dismissed the speculation through his office by stating that he has no intentions of stepping back into politics.

  1. Zambia will not complain if Ba Sata nominated R.Banda as Republican President, I mean if Ba Sata fall sick again. Now he is feeling much much better, he just need a physical trainer.

    • Let’s swallow our pride and be honest, no politician in Zambia today would lead, develop and unite the country better than RB – if only he can cage his children and keep them away from governance issues!!! Am sure he has leant his lesson…

  2. BA RB HE DIDN’T STEAL ENOUGH TAVIONELA NJI, MAMBALA LYAKWE. JUSTICE IN ZAMBIA IS TOO SLOW EVEN WITH ABUNDANT EVIDENCE IT WILL TAKE A LIFE TIME FOR THE CASE. TO THE HE WILLSTART LEGITIMISING HIS STEALING TO THINK HE IS INNOCENT. WE ARE SICK AND TIRED OF RB’s THIEVING FAMILY.

  3. There is absolutely nothing wrong in a democracy like ours for people to exercise their right to ask a retired leader to equally exercise his right to consider a political comeback. Besides, it is people who determine who leads them at any particular time

  4. In fact that will be the best thing to happen to MMD and Zambia. Let RB come back and re organize things. This country is now headed nowhere with these bums.

  5. under prevailing circumstances, MMD should have been the ones calling for RB to come back because clearly, he is the only one that can effectively unite Zambians in order for the country to be able to go forward again. Zambia surely needs RB to come back

  6. Let us be sober, we need to realise and understand that all is not well in our country, why should we be subjected to a leadership crisis when we have had leaders that have ruled and ruled exceptionally well? Rupiah Banda’s coming back is not a bad idea because he is the immediate past President, and he knows what it takes to be a President, come on people! We are economically starved because of poor leadership at the top, let) be on top, we shall see good economic indicators making their way.

  7. Some of us with information on how mismanaged our economy was under that Rupia would ‘t even want to think Zambians can make that misteak again.Lets learn to move forward as a nation choose wisely. That Mumba is even better than most of these recycled tired shells.

    • What was the value of the Kwacha during RB’s tenure? What was RB’s salary and more importantly what was the price of mealie meal when our dear RB was president? It would be better that you INFORMED yourself on these facts before coming to spew your ill informed bile on this site!

  8. Muhabi go in bars and mini buses and you will understand how much RB is loved by Zambians. You only realise how much you miss a thing after that thing is no more. Luckily for us RB is still alive and not dead. It would be nice to bring him back. Our Kwacha has suffered enough, agriculture is on its knees, soccer is dying. Look everywhere there’s mass decay. Mr. Muhabi talk for yourself, MMD wants RB back. So stop talking as if you are talking for MMD. You will be the only doubting Thomas if you don’t own up soon. Just go incognito in pubs, taxis and you will see the light. Nevers cannot even hold an umbrella for RB!

  9. dont be STUPID and so DULL u pipo caling for RB`s come back, where u born last week for u to 4get wat coruption zambia went through at the hands of RB? av u 4goten how RB.s ministers buried money underground.u must av been among those who were so corupt during RB tenure now things are very dificult for u since u av lost every conection to powers that may be and now you ar cring like babies .
