APC president Nason Msoni has observed that it is not the formation of political parties but the contribution of ideas by individuals to the already existing political parties which will add value to the current opposition.
Speaking in an interview Mr. Msoni said the continued formation of political parties does not add value to the current opposition and is being viewed by the public as being motivated by greedy rather than service.
He noted it is imperative for the opposition to stick together so as to have a unity of purpose among the opposition in the country.
He further explained that some opposition parties have decided to come together so that they do not lose their relevance in providing the necessary checks on behalf of Zambians.
He said there was no need for the opposition to further fragment itself by forming other political parties.
“Without underestimating the reason why these political parties are being formed I think we have more than enough political parties in this country that individuals with ideas can join and make a difference to this country.
“In fact a few political parties have started an initiative of forming a pact so that we don’t seem to be multiplying ourselves to the extent that we become useless to the Zambians; we have to be useful!
“Otherwise the no need to further fragment the existing scoop of political parties, although its in the democracy but we must be more organized in the way we are trying to answer the national question of leadership because the more we fragment the more difficult it will be to find a solution,” Mr. Msoni said.
Mr. Msoni’s was commenting on the continued formation of new political parties in the country.
Spot on Mr Msoni.
Any serious person withing to participate in our politics today should find a berth in one of the existing political parties. The problem is that most of these people do not wish to be led by others but want to lead others. If you want to be a leader be prepared to be led and to serve, not the other way round. Look at our Lord Jesus Christ. He served and he did not hold a position in the Synagogue even though he came from heaven.
I kind of support the idea of coalescing around HH…Mr Msoni could be a very able lieutenant
Its quite obvious that for as long as politics in our Country remain rooted on personalities rather than ideologies, new political parties will continue to come up (until every household becomes a political party). Solution is to deal with the root cause. One of the ways to deal with this is for the voting public to ask whichever party they wish to vote for …”What’s your vision? Where is your plan? How is it different from the rest of the political parties?”. The registrar of political parties should ask the same questions before registering, thought I wouldn’t count on it because as we know the registrar is controlled by the party in Govt.
The idea of placing a requirement in order to register a party would be defeating the democracy process. Anyone should be able to put themselves forward. You hit the nail on the head by noting it could lead to corrupt leaders preventing the registering of other parties.
However I concur with you on the need to ‘do something,’ and Msoni is right on parties joining together on their own ‘free will,’ if they match ideologically. That is the safest way.
You should be right in you own words but this is triggered by differences in ideological thinking. Many political parties actually give advantage to the ruling party because it becomes a challenge to defeat them in an event there are election. Remember the Divide and Rule theory. this is exactly what happens in Zambia. those in government don’t care, even if we were to have 130 political parties because it works to their advantage. What should have happened to those having briefcase political parties was to disband them and join those they feel their philosophical thinking will be absorbed. they should also consult widely before they come up with weird ideas of forming political clubs. let me mention to the public that this is what has promoted tribalism in political arena of this…
Mr Msoni. Here is an idea. Why don’t you start by de-registering your party APC as it clearly has no following. You have accurately described yourself and other power hungry individuals.
A multitude of parties is nothing to worry about, more than half of them either exist on paper only, or will not pass through the sieve of nomination at election time, or the voting public will never get to hear about or from them. Anyway, 100 parties or more when elections are approaching is democracy, the Zambian way.
What should matter is the alliance and unity of useful parties.
Msoni is right. Problem is agreement between the opposition parties. Currently no party in opposition can win the next general election in 2016. I feel a combined effort on the part of opposition, will prevent wasted votes going to several small parties; when they can pool the votes to say one or two ‘joined up’ opposition party. Will Egos allow it or will need for survival prevail? The right to register a party must remain unaltered to ensure proper democracy.
One way is by hiking the cost to run in general elections; this can prohibit loose cannons from fragmenting votes. In America each party and candidates must pay a deposit which is non returnable if they loose. Also there are various state by state elections which candidates must win or be eliminated until the last two…
