Konkola Copper Mines Plc (KCM) says education is cardinal to its corporate social responsibility programme.
KCM Nampundwe Branch Manager John Lukaki said the mining company and government have partnered in the private public partnership to improve the standards of education in the country.
Mr. Lukaki said KCM was passionate about Zambia’s education sector hence it was seeking to support the community in which it operates.
He was speaking when he handed over a one by three newly constructed classroom block to Nampundwe secondary school authorities.
He disclosed that 302 secondary school pupils in Zambia’s Central and Copperbelt provinces would be sponsored by KCM to tertiary level in fields of medicine, mining and business to study in Australia, India, Namibia and the United Kingdom.
Mr. Lukaki added that the corporate social responsibility covers both KCM employees and dependants.
He further said the corporate social responsibility programme covers both KCM employees and dependants.
KCM, one of Africa’s largest integrated copper producers, is a subsidiary of London-listed diversified resources and mining company, Vedanta Resources Plc which is assisting the Zambian government to ease the burden in key sectors of the economy such as heath, energy, mining besides education.
And receiving the classroom block, Nampundwe secondary school deputy head-teacher Mwila Mwila commended KCM and called on other private companies to emulate the mining company.
Ms. Mwila said improving the education sector calls for concerted efforts from all stakeholders.
LT Show us the Pictures of the classrooms, Knowing Indian behavior?? They must be cheap to calm Zambians down. The Zambian Mines should be taken back with Proper control of the resources than what’s happening. It pains to see how Zambians are taken advantage of?? Let alone these foreigners stealing from us. ZCCM should control the sale of Mineral resources. If you have no strategy, reach to us will give you some ideas on how this can be achieved to benefit Zambians and our Country.
YOU KNOW THESE FAKAS CAN’T SHOW YOU THE PICTURES! THIS IS COMMON JOURNALISM IN ZAMBIA WHERE MUCH INFO IS OMITTED. READ ZAMBIA DAILY MAIL- IN SOME CASES THEY WILL PROVIDE PICTURES. BUT THEY WILL NOT ANNOTATE THEM. LEAVING WONDERING WHAT OR WHO IS THERE IN THE PICTURE. GO TO TIMES OF ZAMBIA AND TRY JUST TO READ THE HEADLINE- THE HEADLINES ARE INCOMPLETE. ZAMBIAN PROFESSIONALISM ALWAYS HAS ONE OR TWO STUP!DITY AND THIS IS EVEN MORE PRONOUNCED IN JOURNALISM. INSTEAD OF INFORMING THEY ARE EITHER MISINFORMING OR DISINFORMING.
Concur. It’s all just hogwash.
Too little and very late. We know the games and we are not moving our demand to control our copper mines.
@The Prince
This post was in reply to you.
Concur. It’s all just hogwash.
Too little and very late. We know the games and we are not moving our demand to control our copper mines.
THIS MAKES ME SO PROUD…TO BE AN INDIAN IN ZAMBIA. WELL DONE GUYS.
WE CAN SHOW ZAMBIANS THAT WE TAKE CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY SERIOUSLY. THE SOLI PEOPLE OF NAMPUNDWE MUST BE DELIGHTED?
We will take back our Mines?? You can be Indian but will never steal from Zambians. Not being Racist but hate your Indian behavior to Suck Zambians out.
Please don’t be an arse. Zambia is providing Revenue to Indians. Have allowed Indians into Zambia to live really useful and enriched lives than if they had remained in the slums of Calcutta, where intelligent Indians have less opportunity.
So you can mock and be proud to mock, but Zambians are rising against your abuse. The only social programmes your thieving Vedanta brethren are engaged in is wholesale international theft and have cost our country so much.
Be Ashamed, be very very ashamed.
All these long years and still no secondary school in Nampundwe? Just what was the matter, ba UNIP & MMD?
Vedanta is only using our money anyway! It is all so silly, why the Zambian Gov’t must give away our Revenue only to accept less of it back in Aid.
You, Members of Parliament should be so ashamed of how you have broken Zambian Self Reliance and Dignity by allowing these blood sucking vultures into Zambia and all around our copper.
You can’t even educate your own, sending kids to India and UK? After the thefts in our copper industry?
What is going on really? You don’t seem to know how to effectively run the country, so we are sold piece by piece to these vultures who do no worse than if you took control of the mines yourselves by nationalising. There is wholesale fraud in gov’t that ACC ‘jokingly’ investigate and fail to prosecute successfully. How much? Can a…
How Much and for How Long can a country tolerate such mistreatment by its rulers? Zambia is a peaceful country. The issue of the copper industry will lead to Revolution if only to get rid …..permanently…….of the old guard who practice these political and economic policies borrowed from the Capitalist Neo Colonialists Handbook.
We are sick and tired. Let’s see some resolution to this copper industry debacle. If someone thought the offering back of our money as Aid is acceptable; then know that it is not. Please pursue our Revenue through taxes contributed honestly from our copper.
What happened Comrades, have you forgotten the purpose behind the struggle for Independence?
Ok, now you have started to pacifying Zambians….we know guys that you make a lot of money and what you are doing is a drop in an ocean. We will not relent to demand that which is ours in our mines. GRZ please faka pressure on these mining thieves.
Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.
