REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT Michael Sata who died on October 28, two weeks ago will be buried today.
In a programme released by Secretary to the Cabinet Roland Msiska, Mr Sata 77 will be buried at Embassy park in Lusaka alongside late republican Presidents Frederick Chiluba and Levy Mwanawasa.
The late Mr Sata died at King Edward VII hospital Beaumont central London at 23:11 hours Zambian time on Tuesday, October 28. He was born on July 6, 1937.
Over the last two weeks, a cross section of people in and outside the country have mourned Mr Sata.
Both the ruling party and opposition political parties in separate interviews by journalists in Lusaka yesterday bemoaned the death of Mr Sata.
PF Secretary general Edgar Lungu told Journalists yesterday that Mr Sata stood for the people and did everything for them hence he would be greatly missed by the party.
Fourth republican President Rupiah Banda said Zambia was known by the United Nations and the international community as a peaceful country and urged Zambians to remain united.
Opposition UPND president Hakainde Hichilema said the loss of Mr Sata was not easy for the people in the ruling PF leadership and expressed hope that they would find a way forward.
He called on Zambians to remain united and peaceful during the period of mourning.
Mr Hichilema further said there was need to hasten the enactment of the new Constitution to avoid un necessary by-elections.
Mr Hichilema said Presidential by-elections could be avoided if the new constitution which provides for running mate is enacted.
Zambians should embrace peace and unity as a sign of dignity for the late president.
Mr Hichilema said Zambians should be calm and peaceful during the funeral period and after burial in order to ensure development in the country.
The late President Sata did his best for Zambia hence the need to mourn him in peace, unity and dignity.
He said it is regrettable that President Michael Sata has died before concluding his term as Head of State saying the late president still had work to do.
He noted that the late President worked hard to form his party, adding that it was not easy to form a political party in an African set up.
Mr Hichilema would contest the Presidential elections but would give details after Mr Sata’s burial.
National Restoration Party (NAREP) leader Elias Chipimo said Mr Sata’s desire was to see infrastructure development in Zambia and it was important to mourn him in a dignified manner.
Mr Sata also had the ability to unite with Zambians regardless of their status.

May his soul rest in eternal peace. Go well Ba Kateka. I personally will miss your sense of humour and jokes.
“You’re the so called reporter, ask dem” Iyo mwandini kwaliba abaume.
Go well Mr President… You taught the PHD holders how to perform. You were the target setter and achiever. The father to many other than your own. Humble, Very clever to respond to queries no matter how hot they came. A very dear LEADER not a Boss. M.Y.S.R.I.Eternal PEACE
Sleep peacefully, shikulu. you came and you conquered.
one era ending as one starts, after burrial its time to share property,, am intereting in knowing who is going to inherit Sata`s facebook, i hope those from the village get it and take it to muchinga
I really dont care, lets have that man buried and move on, its part of life, we will all die one day.
Sata is fit as a fiddle. He is just going for a working holiday at embassy park.
Enjoy your working holiday chief of …………………………… Stay there for as long as you want.
Well, MHSRIP together with his Donchi Kubeba lies.
Finally let him go, he was going backwards and seriously, Sata disappointed me personally identifiable by his palatable lies which he has, hopefully carried with him.
90% of the lies are going and the remaining 10% will be discarded in January’s election.
RIP Sata, time to move on forward with truthful democracy.
Adios Amigo!

Sad that Cobra is gone, he entertained us?? I don’t think we will have a leader with Jokes like him?? very sad but let him Rest in Peace. He suffered, especially that he was forced to work, by selfish people around him, who wanted to benefit.
How did Mr. Sata unite people if he even failed to unite his family. Call a spade a spade, Mr. Sata had love only for us bembas. on the record, the waste President Zambia has ever had. Maybe Lungu will do better, promise people so they can fund his campaign after winning forget them suckers and get to serious business, do not behave like nyama nsolo Banda when thought he could win in 2011 after getting fat from eating beef and forgetting people who elected him. Kabimba is also okay except us bembas and njanjas love power, we won’t it slip.
HH: “he did his best for zambia…….: ??????
“he worked hard to form his party” ?????
Are these tributes? Anyway it is good that HH is consistent, while being magnanimous he has not contradicted his statements made in normal times. After all that persecution, one can conclude that HH has a big heart, vengeance is for God.
@PF sober cadre, thats the spirit. I like your comment. We are not enemies but we only differ in opinions of governance. We are all Zambians. There is no way one can delight in the death of a fellow brother even if you belond to different political parties. And thats the spirit HH has exhibited. A spirit of brotherly love. Because death will happen to everyone. “Do unto others what you would want them do unto you”.
this is a waste of time people; this dead baboon just messed up our economy and well being; sata does not deserve to be buried at embassy park but the corps needs to be thrown away from victoria falls; besides i have heard that nevers was plundering RB’s bottom this morning and accidentally RB did not apply adequate lubricant; RB then had to be taken to hospital cause he was bleeding from his bottom; may god be with the couple, amen; evand mfula at evaduco reporting live from lusaka suburbs

Did General Miyanda say anything too? Try and cover him too!
Its a day for Sata’s burial. But much more importantly we’ll also bury tribalism, political persecution and divisive politicking.Zambia will be renewed, reborn and re-invented hopefully for the better.
I am just shocked to hear so many sweet things said about Sata and his PF. Is it amnesia or just plain unbridled hypocrisy being championed here? Alright we can’t say bad things about the diseased at this time but we can surely reduce the oil and jam accompanying his praises. He wasn’t this angel the media has suddenly transformed him into. There’s need to soften phrases but not so excessively that we appear hypocritical.
Its not being hypocritical. It’s the way it is. The dead cannot defend themselves.
@Wantanshi, agreed- read a paper by Dr Mutinta on how Africans glamorise death. Nothing ever bad is said about the deceased in most funerals and the dead is made to look a saint no matter what. In politics this becomes an issue as then it becomes the first lie if opposition are falling on their feet to praise the late President Sata and the legacy he is leaving behind. How then can we measure their performance if their benchmark is the deceased president. Then better the devil we already know to continue scenario Mr HH? Eulogies can be sympathetic yet factual in the short comings and the achievement of the deceased. The other point made was “Keep quiet if you have nothing to say” which of course isn’t an option being an opposition party leader. Last but not least, it distorts HISTORY!
Wantanshi, another thing our Zambian journalists don’t seem to understand is that there are ways to get around the conundrum of what to say about a dead guy like Sata for whom there is really nothing nice to say. You can say he was a sweet old boy and then continue to use only the initials. S.O.B.
Manje only two SADC presidents attending. What’s happening to our relationships with our neighbouring countries to cause such apathy?
We thank you Lord for the gift of our President H.E MR. MICHEAL CHILUFYA SATA. Now that He answered your call, grant him enternal rest.
Finally this Jamboree circus is coming to end, where else have you seen a corpse draining taxpayer’s fund like at the rate Sata’s was doing….he will go down in our history as arguably the most incompetent and myopic empty tin to ever be elected into State House. He was so dull that at no time in his era did he ever tackle basic questions relating to the economy…we basically had a deadwood for a President who was neither transparent nor accountable to the people who put him in power and even at this time some of us are not convinced whether he is still his bed sleeping or dead as it makes no difference.
I’m an honest person and do not need a religion to hide behind and i tell you this for the sake of our bottom line I’m happy that this liability of a President is gone.
ha! Jay mwana, if you ever stand in front of a man who tells you that your expertise is subtlety, just know that you are facing a big liar. I’m telling you, man 🙂
RIP… Condolences to his family esp. wife and children.
Ba LT why have you deleted my entry? This Embassy park which could have been for all living is being wasted for the dead who could be buried at the memorial park. these presidents are just as human as all of us.
I have no qualms this park being used for this purpose and kept immaculate. In fact they should put animals such as Zebras, Giraffes and exotic birds such as peacocks to roam the park. Make it into a peace haven open to the public at a fee, have a museum built and bring a lot of artefacts so that it is the centre of information for vast holiday destination around the country. Don’t look at as a cemetery but a tranquil place for a library and picnics. These guys were not ordinary people but leaders of a country! There graves are not ordinary graves but national monuments. We need to build statues for prominent ment people like Simon Kapwepwe, Harry Mwaanga Nkubuoa, Mainza Chona, Mama chikamoneka, Robinson Nabulyato and all others worth a mention as they belong at the embassy park too.
…please excuse the typos “their” “destinations” “it” “Nkumbula”…..
At last, at last!, at last! Zambians can debate their political destiny without being harassed, threatened, beaten, imprisoned or even be killed. This world belongs to the owner who created it, individuals are only custodians, bad ones don’t last. Good riddance, peace and civility returns
Was wondering how much money is wasted on the graveyards for the presidents? That money can built a clinic in Vumbwi.
