Acting President Guy Scott this morning led foreign heads of state, foreign dignitaries, cabinet ministers, service chiefs, traditional leaders, opposition political party leaders and tens of thousands of Zambians in the requiem mass for late President Michael Sata at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.
Mourners started flocking to the National Heroes Stadium as early as 05:00 hours to attend the mass of late President Sata who died in London at King Edward VII Hospital on Tuesday, October 28, 2014.
Speaking at the service, Dr. Scott stated that his job is to ensure that Zambia has a new President and a new administration within 90 days as per constitutional requirement.
Dr. Scott stressed that he will do everything to the best of his ability to make sure that people get the kind of President they want.
He reiterated the need for the nation to maintain peace, stability and continue on the path to sustainable development for the good of the people.
He said during the time he spent touring the country with the late President Sata, the departed head of state wanted Zambians to always remain united and Zambia a democratic country.
The Acting President also described the late President as a kind, generous man who embraced people of all races, religion and tribe.
He has urged Zambians to continue to behave well during the transition period in order to make the country proud.
And Southern African Development Community (SADC) Chairperson Robert Mugabe said the best tribute Zambia can give to late President Sata is to build on his illustrious works.
Mr. Mugabe, who is also President of Zimbabwe, said all Zambians regardless of tribe, religious, and political affiliation should work towards realising the great idea which the late President Sata had.
He also disclosed that during his meetings with the late President Sata, the two discussed going into joint ventures by networking companies in the two countries.
He said the joint hosting of the World Tourism Organisation Conference in Livingstone and Victoria Falls was the beginning of joint partnership between the two countries.
Mr. Mugabe praised President Sata for striving to unite the people not only in Zambia but in the southern African region and Africa in general.
He also called on the nation to reject and fight neo-colonialism with the energy it deserves.
President Mugabe further challenged journalists to write about the work and achievement of the late head of state, saying President Sata was without doubt a man of action who put service to the people above self.
Meanwhile, Patriotic Front (PF) Secretary General Edgar Lungu said the ruling party will live on despite the death of its founding leader.
Mr. Lungu, who also doubles as Minister of Defence and of Justice, described the departed President as a great teacher who passed on his political values, techniques and strategies before his death.
He said the late President Sata taught the PF how to do their politics and to survive in the competitive political environment in the country.
The PF Secretary General also stressed that the ruling party was not for sell to the highest bidder and warned that it will not allow greedy and corrupt individuals to hijack it.
Mr. Lungu has since called on all Zambians to unite and love one another as they move on after the death of the country’s leader.
He further assured the nation that the government will ensure that President Sata’s aspirations for the country are realised.
And family spokesperson Alexander Chikwanda thanked Zambians for the support and kindness shown to the Sata family during the mourning period.
Mr. Chikwanda, who is also Finance Minister, further thanked First Lady Christine Kaseba for the love and care she provided to late President Sata during his illness up to the time he died.
He also urged the leadership of the country to ensure they continue on the path to sustainable development, peace and unity which the former head of state stood for.
First President Kenneth Kaunda, fourth President Rupiah Banda, former Namibian president Sam Nujuma and former Botswana President Festus Mogae were among several heads of state that also attended the requiem mass.
President Sata has since been buried at the presidential burial site at Embassy Park in Lusaka.
He is survived by wife, Dr. Kaseba, nine children and five grandchildren.

I’m just wondering how Mugabe is reacting to the Guy Scott reality. I think Mugabe has some serious hangups over race.
We are the second greatest country in the world behind Scotland.
We acted exemplary im told.
Thanks
To PF, action speaks louder than words. Show Zambians the peace and unity now on the peripheral. Get serious because indisputably, PF is at a crossroad for a combustion while Zambians at large are at a strategic inflection point where a right decision will have to be made come bye-election day.
To the opposition parties prematurely making impulsive pronouncements that you are ready for the election even before building internal partisan and external opposition community consensus not mentioning measured capacity of resource mobilization and campaign machinery true of a credible opposition, your members will lynch you live for the utopia you are espousing.
Zambians take this bye-election as a God send to correct the mess created political careerists and their utopia of popularism.
Agree with you! this hopefully educates him on what power sharing is like; no matter what your race is. I would have thought he would have learned something from our Late Mandela….
@My Mushota (with love..)
Zambians are third peaceful people in world.
1st Iceland
2nd Tokalau
3rd Zambia
.
.
.
27th Scotland
We are proud t have a peaceful Scottish in name of Guy Scott. If Charlotte is also a Scottish then Scotland can move to 3rd Zambia move to 4th.
That EDGAR LUNGU is shocking, why smear a good opportunity to preach the best, than open mouth of crying block Zambian to fight fellow citizens who just happened to have money?
GBM and Chikwanda are rich, but that doesn’t mean they can’t like the poor Zambians. It is not only the impoverishment who make good leaders. Ba Lungu, just leave PF and join UPND fast fast, they may keep you as minister of defense, but NOT Justice.
So goes another night. And another eclipse has come and gone. It’s yet a dawn of a new day.
Though Zambian believe in continuity and are open to give sympathy votes. But if PF does not mend its wounds fast and foster national values with a candidate that captures the wishes of Sata, a “united and not a fragmented opposition” will carry the flag. Thusfar, Edgar comes out the best compromise and unifying icon with a degree of high temperament hard to find in PF in a quagmire as this they are in. Therefore, sideline EL at your own peril.
Senior man, you put a finger on my biggest worry. That Edgar is seen by many as our best choice. I’m talking about Edgar Lungu ka, not Edgar Allan Poe. It’s unfathomable to me.
Yes Edgar Kaminamisa the unifying factor. Are you kidding me? Are we seriously out of leadership options to stoop so low?
Do you think Edgar Lungu has the strength of will not to be used as a front by a power hungry cartel that wants power at all costs? Zambians, let’s think and analyze the situation carefully. Edgar had no presidential ambitions. Some one is pushing him from behind to think of himself as presidential material. He should look at himself from deep down his soul and make a decision. Itis hot up there and it might bring him to an early grave! We are getting rather tired of presidential mourning!
Gloves are now off,we are left with knuckles and pangas
God forbid! I renounce that in his Holy Name, Amen!
“The Acting President also described the late President as a kind, generous man who embraced people of all races, religion and tribe”
It’s just impossible to describe adequately the mammoth hypocrisy that has gripped Zambia. Just one, Sata wasn’t tribal?!
I have nothing personal against Guy and I don’t buy the muzungu garbage that some people are trying to spin. But I cannot comprehend the rubbish that escapes that man’s mouth. when he speaks of Sata. From the time he denied his boss was even sick at all. It’s one complete rubbish after another.
I agree with you the Man was brutal, Only God Called him fast like Nebuchadnezzar he muted his mouth the last days
KING COBRAS HUMOURWAS INFECTIOUS Some of the reasons, why how miss my president…. His answers Reporter:Mr President, how do u feel for the loss against MMD? Mr sata :how can I feel hv lost, wen hv not bloody lost (walks away) Reporter :sir how do you feel about George Bush been in Zambia? Mr sata ;how do you feel yourself? Reporter :sir are the rumors about wat pipo are saying about u true? Mr sata ;you are the so called reporter, ask them… Reporter :sir y do u use a boat as a symbol? Mr sata :u wanted me to use “ba wiso ” (thats a threat) ? This was the man… King cobra, greatly missed by millions…
I picked this up on facebook, I thought I should share this
Sata was not tribal! What a laugh! The last few months, each time we tuned to the national TV, he was swearing in somebody who was related to him or was from his tribe. Check his last swearing in ceremony if you will! See what I mean! May he rest in peace. I mean: He just had a lot of people he had to please and pay back for the risks they took for him! They just happen to come from one particular group of people except for a sprinkling few.
I will be happy to PF completely obliterated out of Zambian politics altogether.
Since coming into power, PF has consistently behaved like a mad dog. No policy direction, too much deception and theft, a lot empty promises, lawlessness, selective justice, failure to honour the pledge to deliver the constitution, intra party violence ……………………..and utter f00lishness characterised PF and Sata ‘s 3 years horrible reign.
I cant wait to usher in a sane government that will restore sanity and orderliness back into our peace loving Zambia.
There is no other party and leader to deliver Zambia from the shackles of f00lish PF and their violent antics other than UPND and HH.
Come voting day, I urge all well meaning Zambians to vote for UPND and HH for a safe and…
Mwapaya mfumu kondwelani manje amfwiti imwe
You will be cr@pping your pants again very soon. And I hope you won’t cry foul. People have been advising UPND and HH to change their strategy but they never listened. If truth be told there is not enough time for you chaps to undo the damage you have done to your image. See you at the polls
Wazelu which zambians?are you urging to vote for such a useless party like UPND,with its under 5 leader who has no patience, lacks the charisma to pull masses of voters, hahahaha you people stop dreaming who can vote HH,only in these places like solwezi,Choma, even thoses places, maybe they will give him 60%& places lilke lusaka& copala forget my friend patali its no go area for under 5.
Sata declared owning SEVEN different types of guns before 2011 elections.
He died at King Edward the SEVENTH hospita.
Laid SEVEN days in state at Mulungushi.
Born 193(SEVEN).
Died aged SEVEN SEVEN
The number Seven signifies devinely determined completeness (See Rev 1:4, 12).Your life was a complete success, by sight and by faith.
It also signifies Rest.
God finished making heaven and earth and rested on the SEVENTH day. 77 years; total rest in the Lord having successfuly run your race man of action.
Ba ZWD said only Edgar used the platform for politics. Mentioning about the smooth transition and to elect a new president by Guy Swot is not political? What do they want to achieve? the battle now is between EL and HH.
Hoping EL can pull it off from the quagmire in PF.
Time now to see the worst succession wrangle in the PF. This is gonna be juicy to watch!
SADC has mourned this states man. Rest in peace.
Go well my Jubille President. You have finished well. The words you spoke will always be with us.
Numbers and letters testify Gods plan about your life. You said that you were imprisoned a total of 40 days was symbolic.
Your repeated pronouncements of 90 days ( THREE months ) in all your plans was also symbolic as your presidency was to only last THREE years.
You lost THREE elections before you won. Jesus fell THREE times with the cross.Your PF is party number THREE to govern us in the jubillee..
Jesus said “I’ll destroy this temple and build it in THREE days.”John 2:19. You ‘destroyed’ potholes and built new roads etc in THREE years!
And you are Michael Chilufya Sata. Could mean : Christ who can make Sata(n) lost in his evil plans on your life. (Iam not…
Thank you Zambians for maintaining peace….. I wish to implore the former first lady Christine Kaseba to step out of the lime light and concentrate on herself and the children. This has been a long and mentally tiring journey….. listening and comparing medical advice, nursing, seeing the late succumb to death, mourning and then being buried. All this in addition to being a mother and mourning. Rest mama.
@pretty.
For onceq you have said something sensible. !! I have voted + just check mwaiche.
@wajimona….. please for the first time. I beg to differ…. Don’t be sure I am your “mwanyike”.
All I know is that pretty ki mwanyike. Just accept.
@wajimona…… in your dreams. Muchinenga bakulu.
I hope the continuity does not involve telling lies, failure to give people a better constitution, abuse of the public order act, more borrowing while maintaining a bloated cabinet and violence from cadres.
Mugabe, is the char of sadc, let him say all useless things for, now, that why Thoko Banda, called him what he called. This is Zambia not Zimbabwe period
Now that HE has embarked on the journey with a non-return ticket, I want our politicians to take one lesson from this episode. If you rise to power through hook and crook, outright lies and disparaging innocent a God’s people, you may win the presidency but yours will be a troubled presidency you will never enjoy it and yours will be a short presidency. All politicians must learn a lesson from this, one has a burning ambition to be president at all costs, and one is sick from day one, spending half his time in pain and globe-trotting looking for medication in vain. No matter smart you are, sooner rather later you succumb.
If we were people of principles, we would not give PF or MMD a single vote after the way they have messed us about with regards to the constitution. Remember a few months ago how Sata was jumping up and down telling us to shut up about the constitution. I don’t know how our country can develop if we keep voting for the same people who blatantly break promises! As for RB, I don’t even know why anyone would even waste their breath discussing him.
Did chikwanda praise Kaseba for taking care of Sata during his ailing days? Really now he is plane and firm with his words. Kikikiki… Thx AC for remaining truthful…
@ndime…. I think he meant during the medical check up…
PF WILL GO INTO THE BY ELECTIONS WITH MORE QUESTIONS THAN ANSWERS.
WE HAVE PUT TO REST OUR DEPARTED PRESIDENT. M.C.S [ MHSRIP]. NOW PF GOES TO THE GENERAL CONFERENCE TO ELCT A NEW LEADER TO LEAD THEM IN THE BY ELECTION.
ON MY OWN ANALYSIS. PF HAS GOT MORE QUESTIONS TO ANSWER FROM ZAMBIAN PEOPLE FOR THE MAIN FAILED PROJECTS TO PROMISED TO DO FOR ZAMBIAN. THE TOP ON THE AGENDA IS THE FAILED CONSTITUTION MAKING PROCESS. WHAT LIES ARE THEY GOING TO MANUFACTURE NOW FOR ZAMBIANS TO BELIEVE THEM. MINING WINDFALL TAX, WAGE FREEZE. OVER BLOTTED CABINET AND DEPUTY MINISTERS. SUBSIDIES ON AGRICULTURE, AND FUEL WHEN THEM SELVES HAVE CONTINUED ENJOYING FREE GOVERNMENT FUEL. FAILED AGRICULTURAL POLICY AS FARMERS ARE YET NOT PAID EVEN NOW. AS ZAMBIANS LET US NOT BUY LIES AND BELIEVE LIES ANY…
Zambians should heed Mugabe’s warning. Unfortunately, we do have a black neo-colonialist faction that is determined to drag us back into the colonial era with Whites at the top and blacks below.
The experiment with Scott must be curtailed. If there is any truth in the airline story doing the rounds then we must close on that corruption. We can’t have leadership that sees white influence as the way forward.
We need to work well with the West, but we do not need to sell our country and certainly not have a massive re-settlement programme under the guise of investment. This we must stop.
Go well Michael Chilufya Sata. Christine must be taken care of so she can resume her life quickly. The last 8 months must have been hellish and disruptive to her and family.
My problem with Scot is not that he is a muzungu: It is the fact that he is old and is not his usual self! I do not want another big state funeral! The world is getting tired of Zambian funerals! Are you sure of Kaminamisa’s liver considering how much he loves his drink?
May the soul of our Late President rest in peace. But I was very much sorry wit the former First Lady Dr. Christine Kaseba. She really made me to weep for over 30 minutes. I really felt touched by her weeping representing a great sense of humor, a sharp contrast to Maureen Mwanawasa who never even dropped a tear during the funereal of her beloved husband. Mrs Kaseba Sata is really an African Mother, and not other women who are only eying for their husbands’ riches. Thanks a lot to Acting President Guy Scott for promising Zambians with a new President within 80 days, and my biggest prayer is that God gives us HH as our president to lead our country to greater hieghts.
The’ Quick Analysis’ are indicating that HH can scope the 2014/2015 Presidential Elections if only he campaigns extra hard, though his progression rates have this afternoon suffered a temporal set back after those of Edgar Lungu rose from 42% in the morning to 54% this afternoon; while the rates for the UPND Leader dropped temporally from about 55% this morning to about 47% this afternoon. The main reasons for the UPND’s temporal set back is because of the high number of people that viewed HE Micheal Sata’ burial as compared to that of Mwanawasa, thanks for advanced technology and govt’s decision to mount giant TVs in all Provincial centers. This means that a very high number of people had a chance to hear other speeches including that of Edgar Lungu which was moving as the man really wept
@Sandra Hamweemba … why us it so that EL % rose?? Is it because of the so called emotional speech or because of body viewing or is it “reveiw” as some kaponya once said on a minibus I happened to be on? If so, am afraid Zambia will never progress.
should read ….. why is it that EL % rose?
You are assuming that EL will be the PF candidate. He may not be. And even if he does, the odds are starkly against him.
Waw! That is an analysis! The current government went to a great length to ferry people to view the body where as the previous government did not! As for the numbers, I have my doubts! In defense of Maureen Mwanawasa, she had many days of mourning and turmoil, where as Dr. Kaseba was spared by shortening the days and not taking the body country wide. Believe me, “Malilo o yevya!” We will all forget but the widows will always be reminded of him who has been lost every day of their lives, not matter how they behaved at the funeral.
Now after all this costly show Zambia can go back to being a normal country where other presidents can visit.
Look I see a huge defeat for UPND under PF!surely how can HH win in Lusaka, copperbelt,Luapula, northern, muchinga, central and eastern?these areas have always rejected him.plus HH(UPND) has only 22 MPs and mostly from southern,so its imposible!PF under Edgar Lungu have very high chances and am sure victory will be for PF!
I understand it is just aleisa aleisa in Lusaka and Copperbelt. Don’t worry about these MP….. a number of those in the opposition (PF) will give him their undivided support….. they will go with the winning president. i mean support him in his projects.
UNITY!! Friends do not be fooled by the “talk” of unity from the PF, even know I feel for the family and friends for their loss, the facts remain that the PF lied to us time and time again about the whereabouts of our “leader” and the best we got was brief appearance’s and Facebook updates, that’s no way to run a country and as Zambian’s we’ve come a long way to still fall for old warlord tricks of suppressing the nation! Hospital staff laid off and threatened for exercising their rights of freedom of speech which in todays democratic world is a given right, the police abused their roles instead of protecting and serving were corrupt and unjust! The least Sata could have done for the country is say goodbye properly with dignity! The PF need a revamp, TRANSPARENCY IS THE WAY FORWARD
