The Grand Coalition on the People Driven Constitution says it stands by the promise made to de-campaign the ruling Patriotic Front PF for failing to deliver on their promise of enacting a people driven constitution.
Speaking at media briefing in Lusaka today Grand Coalition Vice Chairperson Beatrice Grillo said the Coalition stands by its promise to de campaign the PF for failing to deliver the constitution within the specified time frame.
Ms. Grillo said people were tired of going through the same process and wasting huge sums of money with a concluding the process.
She said Coalition will find and rally behind a candidate who will not go back on his/her words on delivering the document.
And Ms. Grillo called on the in coming president to ensure that the constitution making process is concluded before the 2016 elections as most of the work has been concluded hence making it easy to finalize the document.
She said there is no need to prolong the process as the released draft document is consistent with what the people have always to be included hence should move from that stage towards having concluding the process.
She added that had the late president Michael Sata expeditiously enacted the constitution the country would not be going to a by-election as the vice president would have automatically taken over.
She also said the coalition demands for a referendum as the only way to enact the constitution stating that concerns over resources are unfounded as it is ready to show the government where to find the money once the road map which includes a referendum is availed.
The briefing was attended by opposition leaders Hakainde Hichilema, Edith Nawakwi, Mike Mulongoti and Nason Msoni among others.

Looks like campaign is now openned and launched with all gusto. I don’t support PF and am MMD through and through, just like a leopard which can’t change it’s spots.
Having said that I think decampaigning PF based on promises just shows lack of understanding of how the political system is setup in PF and let alone Zambia. PF was Sata and Sata was PF and whatever was not delivered squarely lies on the shoulders of Sata. You can’t blame punish PF members for failing to tell Sata to inact the constitution in 90 days. That was Sata’s fault as supported by the political system in place.
Ms Grillo is being shallow and just too lazy tom engage in thinking. She needs to wait and see who PF puts forward because that will the person who control the system.
Our Political system still gives too much power to an individual and so you need to scrutinise an individual and not a political party. It is the individual at the helm of the system that calls the shots. I even doubt if any of these political parties have structures that allow members to express diseenting views. Only MMD has that attribute. The rest are one man party and voting them is basically voting in an individual.
Just yesterday Mugabe warned of colonialists coming back in the name of NGOs. How much money does your NGO have to offer to sponsor the referendum? You are just a mouse being used to point and click by the invisible hand. DON’t sell your country madam, we know your ‘roots’. The constitution still has issues that need to be debated such as the land clause, ask the chiefs.

The PF cabinet under Sata was made up of professionals, the Ministers of Justice have been lawyers…they all failed to advise Sata correctly> while I agree with you that PF was buried yesterday with Sata, I want to recognize that the systemic failures of PF are collective of Cabinet and Sata, all of them were grossly incompetent

You licked your way out of power because you were licking the MMD Leader instead of advising him, or if you did, you did so half halfheartedly and he did not listen to you because that is how the system works. Well, it is a rotten system; and if the head is rotten, the body is rotten and no use to us. Reformation must start at some point, and now is the time. Failure to start now is a message to the next President that he alone knows whats best for us and perpetuate the statusquo. The principle of collective responsibility on PF must apply here for the future good of the country. Decampaigning does not win elections! The PF will have to work hard to lose these elections. The thousands of vendors I sat amongst yesterday, will not vote based on the constitution or any failed promise. The multitudes that queued all week at Mulungushi, the 60,000 who filled the stadium and the millions glued to their TVs since 1 November — in a way, were casting their vote to Sata and what his PF has done.

A meeting attended by people with Hidden Hagendas (HH) cannot have anything fruitful come out of it. Alas, the draft constitution was hurriedly given to the people as soon as the Late president was evacuated to London for final attempt to save his live. In September 2011 Zambia carried out the most disastrous experiment history and voted for a bunch of tsotsis. Violence became the norm and lies flowed out of their mouths like a burst tap. The experiment was a complete failure and now its time to erase the after effects and start again. All pensioners who have aspirations to become president need to take a full medical examination and the results will speak for themselves. We have endured two very painful and costly state funerals, there is no need to make this part of our routine. Banda needs to be with his wife instead of campaigning. The Pf should retire, they failed the people of Zambia miserably. Perhaps the newly elected president will now reinstate those poor nurses who were unfairly dismissed. This is a wake up call. Vote wisely.
