Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) National Secretary, Muhabi Lungu, has dispelled media reports that the National Executive Committee (NEC) has unanimously adopted MMD president, Nevers Mumba as its candidate for the upcoming presidential by-election.

In a statement to ZANIS in Lusaka today, Mr Lungu said this is not the correct position that was taken by the National Executive Committee.

Mr Lungu said it is highly dishonest for anyone to communicate to the media on a non-resolution or any subject matter discussed for which they were not authorised.

He said the NEC did not mandate anyone to communicate to the media about its discussion or the direction that it gave.

Mr Lungu said as Secretary to the NEC he did not issue or authorize any individual to issue any statement on behalf of the party.

He said the statement that has been issued purporting to be emanating from the MMD Secretariat is, therefore, false, dishonest and intended to disrupt the direction given by the NEC.

Mr Lungu has since urged the media to disregard all statements about decisions made by NEC unless they emanate from the office of the National Secretary.

  1. Nothing but confusion pa zed.when it comes to politics. I am now thinking that none of the political parties including the current regime are fit to govern the country. They cant even do a simple thing…that of adopting a candidate for the coming elections. Too many docile people we must change our mentality and act professionally and efficiently when it comes to matters of state.

    • The MMD is battling betwixt two opinions, Mumba or RB? RB is a reluctant participant. But the bottom line is that neither of these guys can win this election. Muhabi Lungu himself would even perform better than Banda or Mumba. It is a simple Fact.

    • In simple English this means..

RB is standing on the MMD ticket.

Just when you thought PF are the only party in turmoil.

Another self destruct party in the making here.

      Thanks

    • drama of all manner. UPND well done for the organised manner you have so far carried yourselves. if ZAMBIANS HAD ANY BRAINS at all, they would have said better vote for an organised party that has had a vision of what to do than individuals who just woke up because a vacancy availed it self. but zambians wont vote for you because they are shallow and tribal minded plus Memmbe the Tonga hater has assassinated your leader’s character that non tongas dont feel like voting for you.

now zambia is going to vote for a drunkard.

    • Everything is perfectly unfolding, mediocrity at its highest level. It seems MMD has nothing else to offer apart from the recycled RB.
If indeed RB is been adopted by Movement of Mdala Destroyers (MMD), then what hypocrisy! The lecture at Boston University by RB ululating that his time was up, the next generation to take over and whilst “statemen” like he assumed of himself then, would only be in the background offering guidance. But today it alas, RB has stopped weeping the loss of 2011,typical of Zambians forgetfulness.
This is an abomination to his Boston Uni lecture. As for Comrade Mumba, 1•5 pieces of silver will have its consequences.
After losing, RB should not claim that his leg is in pain again.
It will be like Scar in Lion King at the helm of Simba.

    • @Mushota:

Be serious Mushota please. RB standing on MMD ticket? How old is he? Even though he is an expert at completing other people’s terms please let him not attempt this one.

    • Its HH and UPND this time around.

I am beginning to doubt if these elections will be held within the 65 days left all because of leadership wrangles in MMD and PF. Now Nevers Mumba , Kambwili and the cartel wants to go court to sort out their problems.

    • If you remember very well what happened in UNIP after Kaunda lost to Chiluba, you know that Kebby Musokotwane was elected UNIP leader, then towards the elections, Keby was forced to stand down to pave way for Kaunda. The result was that Kaunda was thrashed again.

What happened with KK will also happen with RB.

When will Zambia learn that recycled politicians only come back to continue destroying and stealing more than they had done previously.

Sata was recycled, only rubbish and more confusion has been achieved. For RB back in power it will be the same old story.

Please Zambia lets not give the failed regime leaders a second chance no matter what.

It would be utter stupidity for Zambians to vote for MMD and PF only relive the kind of uncertainty these two regimes created.

    • Vague statements are not synonymous with the MMD democracy we’ve come to love and respect. If speculations of Rupiah’s return are infact true, then it’s unfortunate.
This idea of looking to the past in the hope of defining future answers is a wrong direction to go.

It’s no longer a secret that a handful of NEC members who wined and dined on RB’s table are peddling this agenda on misplaced nostalgic reasons. Reality is, voters of out there prefer a more energetic and youthful Nevers Mumba.

The second coming of Rupiah to frontline politics will lose MMD votes and the little respect voters had for RB. Let’s hope all this is baseless rumour.

    • Thought there was NO VACANCY in MMD as the still have an Elected leader whose term of office is not in question – talk of IGNORANCE & STEWPIDITY!!

    • @1.4, Armpit:
Your insult to the Zambians on behalf of UPND, the party you are supporting, is noted and will be remembered on the day of voting! So Zambians have no brains, eh?

  2. Another Party embroided in a battle of positions…My heart goes out to the MMD. Even the statement shows maturity and a dignified approach…

    • big up to the ZAMBIAN WATCHDONG for keeping watch. amazingly those guys seem to tell the truth most of the time. while LT wrote the nervers mumba none sense, ZWD noted that the report was not true and that RB will be the candidate.

now who will vote for RB and who was going to vote Nervers mumba?

      MMD, my foot.

  3. These antics are of a circus in the making. However this is good that confusion has gripped the MMD as well. With RB now standing for the presidential elections Mathani better get ready to loose the Bank yet again. This will also now split the Northern Provence vote so in comes HH and UPND. All those corrupt in govt today better pack your bags to move out of the govt houses and facilities.

  4. Rumor is rife that the MMD have adopted forth republican president Rupiah Banda for this forthcoming by-election. Nevers Mumba’s expulsion from the MMD to be announced before Friday.

    • But what do they see in RB….What exactly his he going to do differently. The guy should just retire and impart some wisdom to the young generation of politicians if he still wants to be involved in matters concerning the state. As at now I just don’t have faith in any of the presidential candidates..Its very depressing if you think about it. More than 13 million people and these are the elites we have vying to run the country…its pathetic.

    • Adopting Nevers Mumba for president would have been a serious joke. Let him just go back to preaching. He is not cut-out for politics.

  5. This should serve as lesson to the likes of Pastor Mumba who have a penchant of doing a sangwapo and allowing themselves to be used & “grabbing” positisions that they never worked for. How painful to realise that the “man of God was merely being used to thwart Felix Mutati from heading MMD. RB just wanted use Mumba loquaciousness to shield/deflect his corruption scandals & not advancement of MMD. I am sure RB has not been pleased with Mumba’s lack disinterest in defending his corruption cases. Sadly for Mumba he has made too many enemies including his former VPs, Dora & look how this Muhabi (a person he forcibly thrust to position of SG) has done 180 degrees. Major Kachingwe must be cracking his ribs with the last laugh!

  6. All the political parties are undergoing severe internal bleeding due to unpreparedness ahead of the presidential by-election. The new constitution once enacted will put a halt to these costly by-elections. Only the PF government is capable of delivering it to Zambians. Vote PF for a new constitution before 2016. PF for continuity, MMD for confusion, UPND for tribal politics.

    • MY,MY,MY LOOK WHO IS TALKING ABOUT TRIBAL AND DISORGANIZATION,PF!DON’T THINK WE ARE CHILDREN NOT TO SEE WHAT IS HAPPENING IN MMD ,PF AND UPND.

DO YOU WANT US TO SHOW YOU THE CABINET AND THE ENTIRE ENVOYS WHO ARE FROM THE NORTHERN PROVINCE, TO PROVE THAT PF IS A TRIBAL PARTY?JUST REPLY THEN I WILL LIST THEM ALL AT ONCE.

WE SAY NO TO VIOLENCE AND INTIMIDATION.YOU AHVE REFUSED TO GIVE US A NEW CONSTITUTION AND WHAT GUARANTEE IS THERE THAT YOU WILL RELEASE IT ,NO MORE DONCHA KUBEBA.KUYA BEBELE!

  7. Muhabi Lungu has not helped matters. If NEC did not adopt Nevers, what then was NEC discussing until the wee hours of the morning? We need a proper statement from you Mr. Muhabi. As a mother of democracy, we expect you MMD to lead the way. You need to move quickly before PF reorganizes. Right now PF is on a self destructive roll with Guy Scott being the chief culprit in killing the party.

  8. The scramble for presidency in both PF and MMD has made me realize that, old man, Daniel Munkombwe is the only honest and credible politician in zambia. If they go into politics to serve as they many claim, why rush for plot 1. These chaps are using us, citizens, to find themselves, and the same time commit us to perpetual poverty.

  9. The issue is that MMD have signed a pact with other opposition parties to field one candidate and so they do not want to be seen to be imposing their candidate . Nevers Mumba will be unveild after consultations with pact members who include ABZ , ADD,Narep etc.

  10. This is politics lets the facts,no one can be a strong presidential candidate without a stronghold. The mistake Nevers did is to be president of MMD when his stronghold in the north was predominantly PF.The stronghold for MMD is Eastern province. Most of the MPS are from eastern and MUmba is not a factor in eastern. Its expected that the winner in PF will be a Bemba because PF,s stronghold is Nothern region. This is normal in Zambian politics since independence. The Bembas will only support another tribe as long as they appointed by Bembas like Mwanawasa but they still abandoned him in preference to Sata.In order to survive mwanawasa pleaded with the Tongas,Kaondes and Lozis and now all these are for HH.The matrix will change in 2015.HH is the winner watch the space. Its a game of Chase.

  11. WHY RUPIAH BANDA SHOULD COME BACK
    By Jonathan Mulenga.
To say Zambia has a serious leadership crisis is no longer news.
Apart from Rupiah Banda, all presidential candidates are amateur politicians who have no political grounding in the intricacies of governance.
Lets face it, politics is a career that calls for experience and maturity if one has to deliver especially in Africa which is fraught with tribalism, corruption and other social ills.
Since Michael Sata’s death the focus has been on his sinking party the Patriotic Front (PF), and who it will put float as its candidate in Zambia’s presidential by-election that’s meant to be held in January.
However, what is clear at the moment is that the PF has no credible candidate who can be floated to win the presidential seat. Even the…

    • Really, really?

I believe a similar article was once written on the late President Mr. Michael C Sata…..

This man is in his 70s, how many more state funerals do you really want to hol???

Besides all that, we all saw what RB 1.0 was, a fiasco and a failure, to the extent that the nation ended up with the PF as a government, what makes you think that RB 2.0 will be any different.

Wake up and stop hallucinating, this man is joke, really, a joke.

If they didnt want Mr. Mumba they could have picked someone else, with this man, we are back to the PF.

    • You are being discriminatory… U are no different to those that say Scott should not act because is not Zambian enough

  12. But imwe maguys why are you wasting time debating about unsettled parties? HH’s UPND doesnt have these confusions in MMD and PF so Lets vote HH

  13. Really, really?

The worst mistake is picking RB. That will be a very damn decision…..

RB is in his 70s, how many more state funerals do they really want to hold???

Besides all that, we all saw what RB 1.0 was, a fiasco and a failure, to the extent that the nation ended up with the PF as a government, what makes you think that RB 2.0 will be any different.

They should wake up and stop hallucinating, RB is joke, really, a joke.

If they dont want Mr. Mumba they could have picked someone else, with this man, we are back to the PF.

  14. Mumba may have not read the story of Jonah in the Bible. The pulpit he ran away from is still waiting for him. He needs to tell them to just throw him over-board.

  15. Simuusa said before his demise, Sata guided the party on endorsements by stopping those that started the campaign of endorsing him for 2016 and emphasized that the PF was a democratic party.

“If you remember, much earlier before he died, president Sata refused to be endorsed and told us that there was no such a thing as endorsement in the PF. He refused being called a sole candidate. To me that spoke volumes that we had a president who believed in democratic processes. That’s why the presidential candidate must be picked by the people at the convention,” Simuusa said.

He said there was need for levelheadedness among all leaders at every party structure because the organisation needed to emerge victorious in the forthcoming presidential election regardless of who would be elected…

  16. Lungu`s statement is a shame. We don’t expect the MMD to be have like the PF. The behavior of PF is understandable because its full of retards. The MMD is a sensible party, so Lungu should tell the people what NEC resolved about the presidential candidate.

  17. Here is my suggestion
Let us go the goverment of national unity:

    RB President
    HH Vice President
    Elias Chipimo Justice
    Felix Mutati- Finance
    Given Lubinda-Information
    Wilbur Simusa-Foreign Affairs
    Guy Scott-Commerce
    Frank Bwalya-Youth
    Inonge Lewanika-Gender
    Katele Kalumba
    Godfrey Miyanda
    Jack Mwiimbu
    Robert Simbyakula
    Dora Siliya
    Catherine Namugala
    Kapembwa Simbao
    Brian Chituwo
    Kapinga Mapnde
    Patrick chisanga
    Matthias Mpande
    Edith Nawakwi
    Panji Kaunda
    Edgar Lungu
    Muhabi Lungu

  18. Iwe ka Muhabi, whether you adopt finished old Rupiah Mubwezeni Kumunzi Banda or fake Pastor Mumba is irrelevant. You isn’t going anywhere. The battle will be between PF and HH.

  19. Whats wrong with MMD? For Christ Sake RB is not about unity. He about exception from Court Cases. God when will Zambians learn. My heart bleeds. MMD was my father’s party. He fought for it to remove KK and do away with recycled leaders. Alas in 2014, he should be turning in his grave, that a recycled leader is standing. RB, my question is what do you want to offer to this great Nation, that can even be ruled by a White Guy with out problems. A country where political wrangles in little political parties including the ruling parties have no bearing on the lives of the individuals. Where drunked confused cadres fight each other in the newspaper but a minute later are found drinking their popular brands together.

  20. With the current slate of clowns desperate to gain access to the country’s coffers, we may as well make a plaque with the following inscription to be placed on State House gate…

“Give me your sick, your bandits, your buffoons and oafs
    Your drunkards yearning to get rich by plundering the country’s coffers;
The wretched refuse of your villages, that wants to be elevated to Plot 1
Send these, the homeless, the ignorant, the has-been needing the countries resources to pay for his wife’s hospital bills, to me
I will put them in State House behind the golden door and elevate them to prince of thieves!”

  21. The fighting we see in PF and MMD is necessary. In politics the fittest survive. No one must inherit the leadership of PF on a silver platter. That party still has potential and a great future. Currently, no one appears to have a clear advantage over the others within the party. The fittest will soon emerge.

In MMD, leadership has been an issue since Mumba took-over. He was given the opportunity to lead. Had he the skill, he could have done so splendidly. He has not. MMD are therefore, in order to conduct a new search. A good party leader translates into a good national leader. Nevers Mumba has not proved his mettle so far.

  22. very sad indeed people who are supposed to be in the political dustin bins keep on ruling this country.RB must be taught a lesson which he must regret for the rest of his life.

  23. The mistake MMD made was to choose their leader haphazardly. Mumba has proved not only a disappointment to himself. He is definitely a disappointment to the whole MMD establishment. Clearly, he is not an ideal choice for their presidential candidate. PF must be weary of making a similar mistake. True leaders are not easy to come by.

  24. Mmmm Bt this same muhabi guy is scruffy? He looks lyk he is cmin straighr frm tha tarven where he ws havin a jar of chibuku or sembentrine

  25. MMD SEEMED THR MOST PREPARED FOR THIS BY ELECTION BECAUSE THEY HAVE A DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED PRESIDENT. MMD IS ABOUT FOLLOWING RULES, INSTITUTIONS AND REGULATIONS. IT HAS BEEN THE ENVY OF ALL ZAMBIANS.

HOW HAS MUHABI LUNGU, THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE OF THE PARTY FAILED TO GIVE DIRECTION IN THIS SIMPLE MATTER?

IN MY VIEW, THE BLAME LIES SQUARELY ON HIM 1. FOR KEEPING QUIET FOR SO LONG.
    2. FOR HIS SHAMEFUL LACK OF UNDERSTANDING OF HIS OWN CONSTITUTION WHICH HE PRESIDES OVER.

WHERE TO ZAMBA? MMD GAVE THE GREATEST HOPE FOR THIS COUNTRY. MUHABI, IT’S NOT TOO LATE.

  26. From the on-going confusions in both camps, its easy to see that both the decapitated PF and the defunct MMD are the two sides of one coin. The similarities in their manner of confusions says it all, i.e. they both lack a clear futuristic ideology first and foremost, there is infighting in both camps as to who should be their Presidential candidate and yet both camps are saying their respective party constitutions provide guidelines on how to go about it. This is a clear sign to any well meaning Zambian not to entrust our Country into their hands. The chaos we are seeing from these two camps is just a tip of an iceberg. Our Country deserves better.

  27. I think Mumba should be regretting offering support for RB during his court cases. Even walking hand in hand with RB. He should be shedding tears for having supported the serpent. Indeed, Ichikupempula ecikulya.

  28. Not this Old Man again. RB is not needed, is not wanted, should not try a comeback. All those planning to support him just want easy-quick-fast money. Not this time, no more presidents in their 70s, we are tired!!!!

To be clear, RB1.0 was a disaster, it was so baaaaad that we ended up with the PF government. People were so disgusted with his leadership and the impunity of his governance that they picked a lesser bad government, the PF.

Who on earth is feeding this man with illusions that RB2.0-reloaded will be different? No more Old Men. He should go and take care of his wife (He said she has cancer, this is no time to abandon his wife for Statehouse)

Rupiah Bwezani Banda stay in Retirement
